What would it take for you to quit online poker?

For me if Party ever goes the route of Pokerroom and Pacific and starts micro raking the 2/4 and above games. Also if they try to raise the rake close to a bricks and mortar sites rates, considering the games are way tougher than the same limit at a casino. If Party buys out Empire and ends their affiliate deals I may leave Party.....

The poker world doesn't revolve around Party.

Re: What would it take for you to quit online poker?

quitting party would be almost like quitting poker for me as how many large sites are there? I don't play online poker for fun (or BM limit for that matter). So if they are fleecing me to the point where I am winning jack squat, I don't see the point in playing. I already have seen about 150 a month getting robbed out of my pockets due to their .5 raise in December of 03'......

Stars doesnt have games? Full tilt is growing exponentially every month, UB has some decent action, the world certainly wouldnt end without Party.

Re: What would it take for you to quit online poker?

If I won $3 million or something in a major live event I would strongly consider not even bothering with online poker very much.

I do enjoy playing...but mostly I play because it's my source of income.
If my income were taken care of then I certainly wouldn't feel the 'need' or 'obligation' to play nearly as much as I do (or even 'at all' really).

I mean, maybe I would be all stir-crazy and bored and then play again...but I think the chances of me travelling more and playing the occasional live event while almost never playing online again would be much higher.

I don't know...maybe I would take the big roll and develop and interest in beating the 50/100 or 100/200 games even though I'm fairly certain I would be a losing player at those limits.
but I think I could find other ways to challenge myself in life.

as far as 'how BAD would the games or the rake need to be to consider quitting?'
If I determined that the games were -EV for me (or not enough +EV) and/or my bankroll was getting clobbered I would have virtually no hesitation or problem to take up a 'real' job again...deciding what the hell I would want to do would be a bit tricky though.

There's no way i would continue playing this silly game if it weren't +EV.

3 or 4 table Stars and you dont have much choices.

Re: What would it take for you to quit online poker?

If Party raised their rake to $7 a hand and eliminated rake-back or whatever bad scenario you can come up with then I would simply head over to Stars, UB, Absolute (if I can handle the software), Prima, True, Pacific, Crypto, wherever.

I am COMPLETELY prepared to do this and don't think it would be that big a deal.

Same thing if the games at Party suddenly became really tough to beat for some reason and I thought the games at Stars or UB were better.
If I had to step back in limits upon switching sites for whatever reason that wouldn't be a problem for me either.

I would think that anyone who plays winning online-poker at Party should be able to do same on another site.
I would also think that any winning poker-player should/would be prepared to switch games/sites when the situation dictates.

Party could completely fall apart for all I care and I don't think it would bother me too much at all.

Re: What would it take for you to quit online poker?

I would quit for 2 reasons.

1. I could no longer beat the games at a decent rate (whether this be due to tougher games, increased rake, less bonuses/rakeback, or any other reason).

2. I won so much money that I would never have to worry about money again. In this case I would probably only play occasionally "for fun." If i had enough money I would be chillin on a lake everyday for the rest of my life, with no worries.

My money comes from RB, and bonus not so many from playing. If poker is not profitable for me, i definetely leave. Poker is in my opinion not a great game without making money (backgammon at sample is much better).

It doesnt? Why would anyone play elsewhere when you can get high rakeback and a selection of tables like no other site?

Party doesn't even have 2/4 short handed tables.

I play because I love the game. I nearly always have loved the game since I set down at my first table 18 years ago (I am 31).

Living in the midwest, I don't get a ton of live action games and online is my only outlet.

As long as I beat the game for .0001 BB/100 - I will play on.

but after that happens you HAVE to figure that the chances of the meteor hitting the same computer THREE times in one lifetime are really really SMALL.
After the first 2 strikes I think you're all set for the next several decades.

Re: What would it take for you to quit online poker?

I will look during week days. But right now (5:50 PM PST) Stars has 19 short-handed $2/$4 tables (Hold'em Limit). Plus another 10 $3/$6 short-handed. Plus another 13 10-handed $2/$4 and $3/$6. Plus a lot more $1/$2 6-handed and 10-handed. All with substantially lower rake than Party.

If the game is rock garden I won't play. So during a typical weekday there might be 3 tables with live ones......
