Critique my new build

4 2001FP's

Xentera GT4

250gig SATA Seagate

Quad monitor stand

1 gig of crucial

Intel 530j Prescott

Abit IS7-V2

Antec SLK3800B with 400 watt psu

Total is about 3600. How is it? Any glaring incompatibilities?

Nice. Also, those are great cases, imo. Amazing how inexpensive computers are getting, though the video card is pricey, eh?

Yes there a probleme, The motherboard you selected runs older P4 chips(Socket 448) and your processor is a newer P4 "prescott" LGA 775, so it won't fit, also if youre gonna spend 3600$+ on a system get a PCI express motherboard not an AGP(for the future upgrades since AGP is being phased out for PCI-X).

Ah, thanks.

Buy an intel mobo instead. Abit are among the worst. Also like someone else mentioned make sure everything fits. I would also rather buy two peices of ram to dual chanel them, get one of those kits.

If said it before, but go with the Western Digital Raptor. If you need more storage, add anotehr hard drive. But the raptor blows away my 200gb 7200RMP SATA drive.

Abit mobos are fine. They are geared toward overclockers and performance nuts. That said, I prefer Asus motherboards. Intel motherboards are also good but they tend to be more expensive than the taiwanese boards per feature set.

Dual channel is goot.

PCI-X is goot.

Serial-ATA is goot.

New intel mobo

New WD raptor

New ram

Someone mentioned to me that I should get a good main video card and a 2nd pci one since it would cost the same as the Xentera but would let me game on it. Does the Xentera give me any software I need for 4 monitors that I wouldn't get with a different card?

Abit = "Cool" parts made for overclockers, low quality, bad reputation amongst serious users
Intel = Rock solid parts made for the serious user

Think about it, if you bought a Intel cpu, why wouldn't you want an Intel mobo?

And why on earth would you ever want PCI-X in a computer made for playing poker?

4 monitors and 4 DVI port card...wow. I am envious. Looks like I'll have to go 6 monitors. So that way mine will be bigger than yours.

I wouldn't buy an ABIT board, well if they were a $0.01.

Buy an intel mobo and save yourself the headache! I don't get why people who use there PC for something like poker would ever consider any other board.Intel boards are know for rock solid stability.

Personally I use 2 video cards, 1 in my PCI Express and a standard PCI card. Both have dual outputs, but the express one is a higher end card for gaming, and then the second PCI card is a cheaper (like $60). Both of my video cards are NVidia chipsets and they play well together.

First off, you linked to the 37 gig Raptor. Get the 75, or two of them. Your orginal spec was 300 gigs, how much room do you need?

And this is the stupidest line of reasoning I've ever heard. I'm not disputing that Intel makes a good board, but it's asinine to believe that using an Intel processessor with an Intel board is magically better than any other combo.

Since we already chose an intel cpu and now want a mobo and we know that intel makes the best mobos we know also know that the intel cpu and intel mobo will be the best combo. But I don't mind, go and buy your shitty Abit and other asian crap, I won't help anyone that has problems with them. People always want the "cool" stuff, but it is also what makes all problems. I see absolutly no reason at all NOT to buy an intel mobo if you are gonna run an intel cpu.

You continue to assert that Intel makes the best mobo, but don't back it up.

I would definitely not pick an Abit board as my first choice (unless it was my beloved BH6) but I don't think I'd go with Intel over Asus.

An overpriced sticker does not a good mobo make.
