Best item to bring to a BBQ?
 

I personally opt for a fish-usually trout-unless the host insists on doing all the grilling themselves otherwise I go for potato salad.

Fish - for real? If you don't eat red meat or chicken I guess this would be ok...

Edited to say: Yeah, I changed my mind. It isn't ok to bring fish to a bbq ever. Too many people dislike the stuff and won't eat anything else cooked on that grill.

As it happend I ended up bringing apple pie and tortilla chips.

The reason I did not say beer at the time was that it was an academic function at the home of the department head so I figured it wasn't the best time to bring alcohol. As it turns out, a wide variety of non-objectionable beers was avaliable.
