A lesson for the young barhoppers

You are minding your own business, hanging out with one of your buddies at the cool new place that just opened up around the corner. All of a sudden an attractive young lady approaches you and intiates conversation. She really seems to be taken a liking to you. Things are going great. After about 10 minutes, the subjects of drinks come up. She says, you wanna take a shot!?!?!!! You order two kamikazeees.

Game over you lose!!!!!!!!

You just got played. How do you know?

Red flag #1: She initiated the conversation. You should get suspicious.

Red flag #2: They almost always target people that are near the bar.

Red flag #3: It's usually an expensive place. This stuff is super common in clubs - where drinks are $10.

Red flag #4: You are not in a big group. Reasons they picked you, should be obvious.

Red flag #5: She was very attractive. She knows exactly what she can get away with.

Now if you are still unsure if she's really playing you, just don't buy her a drink. You're not gonna lose a chick, because you didn't immediately buy her a drink. If she's around in 40 minutes, feel free.

What would a shark do in that spot? Realize as soon as she walks up what is happening. While you engage her, you're really thinking about the best reply to, "Do you wanna get drinks?" as you can. You want your reply to be mean, derogatory and shocking. The hotter she is, the meaner you have to be.

"Do you wanna get drinks?!?!!?"

(to a sort've hot girl): "I'd rather stick my balls in a blender."

(You to a super hot girl): "You know if your breasts were just one cup size bigger, and you didn't have so much make-up on, I might consider it. But, I'll think I'll take a raincheck on this one."

We've all been duped before, let's not let it happen again.

Yeah but the question for drinks is coming. And its usually very direct.

If you've never seen it done, you haven't been to that many bars.

also, instead of being a cock, you should pull the ol switcheroo on her if you think she is just trying to get a free drink.

when she says "would you like to do shots?" just say:

"i hadn't really planned on doing any shots, but since you are offering, how can i say no?"

if she blatantly says "i meant for you to get us a round.", you can just say, "what are you, cheap?"

I remember seeing something similiar in that Casino show that was at Ceasar's -

in it, the ladies go basically flirt their way into some games, borrow some chips from the older guys, and try to play with their money - not cool.....

stupid bitches -

Good post.

However, you have to also look at the meta game situation here. If no guys bought drinks for hot bar sluts, then nobody would get to pipe them in a drunken stupor later in the night. So if a girl tries this on you, you might consider taking one for the team.

I can't say I get approached in this manner, maybe cause I live in a small town and a lot of people know me and know I have a girlfriend. However it's not for lack of going to bars, some of them kinda trendy/expensive.

Re: A lesson for the young barhoppers

How is it odd? I've seen this scenario quite a few times and know girls that do it. Never at college though. Drinks were probably too cheap for anyone to care. A girl that comes up to you when you are near the bar is usually bad news. (this is specific to at or near THE bar). It's just something to be on the look out for. It annoys me way more than it should - and really annoys me when my friends do it or get duped.

This has happend in Las Vegas a lot to me. I'll be be away from the group getting a drink with a friend and the girls just come down from the rafters - so friendly.

If I came off like I had all the answers - that wasn't the point, I learn through experience .

If you're near the Cities, you really need your friends that are already 21 to take you out Saturday night. Don't do that stupid 20 shots thing, but you really should go do it as soon as you get the chance.

Hey JV,

I think another good play would be just to cut them off at the start, and say, "Oh, this is the part where you approach me and act real friendly and then trick me into buying you a drink because I'm supposed to be some stupid guy who goes gaga over your slightly above average but nothing special looks, right? I think you need to find another chump."

Yeah I almost beat the [censored] out of my friend last time we were out and a hot girl came up. Of course after 5 minutes he walks away and says why don't you guys have a drink, I'll be back in a second.

Luckily she knew the bartender and he didn't charge us, but I haven't broken the "no drinks for girls the first night I meet them" rule in a long time and have no intentions to.

A custom that women like the OP has in mind are taking advantage of. If she's signifigantly out of your league, then you're being had. For a drink. She doesn't care if you're nice. She wants a man -- someone that will stand up for himself.

And why is there dating advice on this forum at all? There are better places for that.

This isn't a neg; it's an insult. Sure, you've been had, but your options aren't (1) play along, or (2) tell her to go f herself. A better option is (3) to make her want to buy you a drink. For sorta-hot and ultra-hot, negs can help here, but they've got to be subtle.

If you're barhopping, supplicating will get you nowhere. Unless it's a country-n-western club.

Re: A lesson for the young barhoppers

is this really a problem that runs rampant out there??? i mean the only time i'm buying drinks for a girl i don't know is if i'm hammered and buying them for everyone and i don't remember doing it or i've been talking to her for a while (back in the day.) i mean are you guys just going out with a shirt that says "sucker" on it?

Re: A lesson for the young barhoppers

I guess I still don't get it. The problem is you don't want to buy a girl a drink? What happens, she walks away after having one with you? (For reals, I don't know.)

Personally I'd shell out the $10 to have a hot chick flirt with me and perhaps my winning personality would make her want to stick around. I'm kinda hardup though.

I also rarely buy drinks (or did when I went to clubs)-- I'm not saying a guy has to buy me a drink to talk to me, but it's a really nice gesture. (vodka cran, if anyone's taking notes.) I've never approached a stranger with the intention of getting a drink though-- guess I don't know exactly what I could get away with

Incidentally, I'd be hella shocked if something like the meanness in the OP rolled off of a guys tongue that I was talking to at a bar-- perhaps there are women who will whore themselves out for a drink (drunks?) but what happens when the girl who genuinely was interested is slapped with something like that? There's like, *no* chance then. I don't like no chance

I guess I'm naive, eh?

Not totally naive, Asia, but you said yourself that you don't approach random guys. I think this described most women. So perhaps you can see that the type of personality that will approach guys will often abuse them.
