Chores

Who has the better deal:

My wife does:
Laundry
General house cleaning (clean bathroom, mop kitchen floor etc)

I do:
All the grocery shopping
Keep track of all finances
Any sort of outdoor work like shoveling the snow, mow the lawn

You do the shopping? You're getting hosed. Standard deal is:

I think doing the grocery shoping would be good since it gives you better control over what your wife will be cooking. I do agree that doing other forms of shoping would suck.

Re: Chores

See I thought this (what YOU posted) was the standard agreement but to be honest, I am just so relieved not to get stuck doing any of the household cleaning that I still feel like I'm coming out ahead even with the addition of the grocery shopping.

Also I tend to make lots of little trips to the grocery store since we live so close to it as opposed to one big trip. Thus I'm never stuck with a giant one hour marathon shopping session. Instead I end up with a bunch of little 5 minute hit and runs.

However if enough people tell me I'm getting the bad end of the deal here I might be able to leverage this with the wife so by all means let me know what you think.

Who cooks? Also, laundry includes folding and putting away?

I think the shopping should be done by your wife, does she cook? How do you know what to get?
Other than that, everything seems fair.

We both cook but she tends to cook more. On average she cooks 3 times as much as I do. On the flip side, we know a great Thai place that we like to order from but they don't deliver and I end up doing the collection. That is about a 30 minute round trip. We also have a couple other restaraunts nearby that we order from that also don't deliver and I am always the one who has to go get the food.

Wife provides detailed shopping lists. Sometimes shopping also includes trips to Target or other such store to get non perishable items.

Laundry most times includes folding and putting away. We tend to make the bed once a week however and she requires my help for that.

Re: Chores

It seems like you are the one doing the driving around... Maybe you should alternate who does the shopping.

Regarding the bed... She can handle that one on her own, it falls into the laundry, folding, putting away category.

Re: Chores

Does all that driving around bother you? When I'm settled in at home, I hate putting my shoes on and going out for anything. My wife has learned that if she needs me to go anywhere, she better tell me as soon as I walk in the door in the evening. Once the shoes are off, I'm done for the night.

Once I'm home for the night, I will not go out again. She knows enough to get me before I leave work so I can stop on the way home. The store really is a short drive from where I live and right on my way home.

I don't mind the driving. I'm a big sports nut and I listen to WEEI sports talk radio on the way to and fro. Also I tend to reward myself with candy or a snack to eat on the way home.

I am the opposite on this. When I get home from work, I need at least an hour before I'll go out again. Usually, I call the wife when I am leaving work to see if she needs anything.

On the other hand, I love going out shopping by myself any other time. It is about the only time I really get to myself.
