party won\'t let me play with my girlfriend?

My girlfriend and I tried to play some .50/1 on party together last night, which we've done many times before. This time, the software wouldn't let us sit at eachothers tables, saying our accounts were associated. Presumably this is because we've logged in from the same IP address in the past(not at the same time). We've never discussed hands in progress or anything that's at all questionable.

I emailed party about it, and got a not particularly helpful response. Has anyone else gotten them to remove this block?

No, but could you clue me in on how I can get Party to let me and my "girlfriend" sit at the same tables?

No offense, but I'm really, really happy to hear that Party isn't allowing you to do this. While I'm sure you two have the best of intentions, 99% of players in a similar set-up wouldn't.

Re: party won\'t let me play with my girlfriend?

Just to clarify, we're not trying to do it from the same place. We're at our respective apartments 20 miles apart. I totally agree that you shouldn't be allowed to sit with people on the same IP address. But blocking it just because you've ever used the same computer is a bit much.

That's weird...party let me play with your girlfriend.

Why is that too much? That is the least they can do to prevent collusion.

Re: party won\'t let me play with my girlfriend?

It shouldn't have anything to do with IP addresses. These are recycled enough to make it a logistical nightmare to maintain. It's my understanding that if you use the same computer to log on to different accounts, those accounts can never sit at the same table.

Re: party won\'t let me play with my girlfriend?

Yeah, how can my "girlfriend" and I play at the same tables when we are on different computers, like, 20 miles away?

It's not like we would use IM or cell phones or anything to communicate with each other. Nudge-Nudge wink-wink.

[/ QUOTE ]

Hi everyone, jar's girlfriend here. Why do we want to play at the same table? Well, it's a common interest we share, and when we're apart (we live about a half hour from each other), it's something we can do to bond. We're both trying to get better at poker (he's better than I am), and we enjoy talking about hands we've played (AFTER the fact), and laughing about silly players at our tables. Plus, it brings out some healthy competition. We've never softplayed each other, and never, ever discussed hands that were in play. I can understand why Party's blocking it... I'm just sad that it's happening, because it was just one of those nice bonding things, and playing each other heads-up on a private table just wouldn't be the same.

Freudian 08-11-2005 09:13 PM

Re: party won\'t let me play with my girlfriend?

Just spectate each others table. There is no reason why you would have to be at the same table to discuss hands.

cardcounter0 08-11-2005 09:13 PM

Re: party won\'t let me play with my girlfriend?

I have about 3 or 4 friends I want to "bond" with too.
Why, oh why, can't we all play at the same table?
Why is Party Poker so darn mean?

Re: party won\'t let me play with my girlfriend?

Yup. When my brother and I are playing, I'll watch his table and he'll watch mine. Hasn't happened in a while (that's what happens when the brother has a newborn), but it's certainly a better option (for the good of the game overall) than sitting at the same table.

Yeah... I don't think we've ever logged into our accounts from the same computer. We've logged in from the same IP before, but that hasn't happened for quite awhile, and it happens pretty rarely, usually only if we're at one or the other's apartments and have a bonus to clear, like, that night.

I could do without your insinuations that we want to collude. I could understand it if we were strangers with 2 posts, but we've both been around here a while. If you look at our posts you'll see that we're legitimate students of the game, and not cheaters.

Re: party won\'t let me play with my girlfriend?

Oh, well then it should be okay then. Can't see why Party won't let you guys play together since you are so honest.

Now could you help me and my friends play at the same table? We never lie, always look both ways before crossing the street, and my girl friend was once an eagle scout.

Get a clue.

No one is insinuating that you have dishonest motives. However, why should Party alter its rules for you? Are we going to parade every couple through and pass judgment on their intentions? I really do not understand why this is such a big issue.

How do you suggest Party distinguish honest folks such as yourselves from colluders who, from their point of view, would be doing the exact same thing as you?

Play HU on UB or play money somewheres, if you want to compete with each other, not where you could possibly give the appearance of unethical play where others are playing at the same table.

Forgive me for seeming a bit naive here... but what same thing would these colluders be doing? Logging in from the same IP address MAYBE 5 times, then consequently logging in from different IP addresses every other time? If I'm not mistaken, you can look up the geographic area an IP address is coming from. Also, I thought that when collusion is suspected, Party can look at hand histories and decide whether those allegations are founded. Like we've said, since we've never discussed hands in progress and don't know what the other person until after, wouldn't our play that show that we've never colluded?

I'm sure your play would show that, but there's no way they have the resources to investigate every suspicious situation when it is much easier to avoid the problem by not allowing you to play together.

In the end, the damage that would be caused by potential colluders is much greater than the inconvenience experienced by honest players wanting to play together.

Poker is already perceived by many as a game full of cheaters. If Party was found to be full of colluders, it would do massive damage to the site and would give people reason to believe that poker is indeed a dirty game.

I'm not sure that CC was insinuating that you intend to collude, but his post is a good illustration of why Party cannot allow exceptions to this rule in this way.

If you could be allowed to play at the same table by explaining your good intentions (which I do not doubt are genuine), so could other less scrupulous players.

Get accounts at a smaller site where you can play together.

However, being what it is, your accounts may be frozen or confiscated, you never know.

All you have to do is open an account at any of the party skins and you can play together again. Just make sure you don't log into the new site from each other's computer. Problem solved. I win.

My brother & I used to play $5 SnG's together on party for fun & to stay in touch (he's in IL, I'm in CT).
One day he calls me & tells me he can't play in a big multi table tourney that he's entered into (he won the seat through a satelite). Anyhoo, I log into his account from my PC, and proceed to donk his stack and tourney hopes within an hour or so...

Since then, we can't sit at the same table. The same 'associated accounts' message....

Yeah, I understand that point. I like your way of making it much better than cardcounter0's.

I just don't like party's you are instantly guilty, always and forever attitude. Guilty until proven innocent is bad enough, but as I understand it, there's no way to make this lockout ever go away. I can see how party would choose their method from an available resources point of view, but I don't have to like it. If there's ever a complaint of suspicious play, that's one thing, but just because we've ever shared a computer doesn't seem like reason enough to me.

Once we finish the current party reload, we'll check the other skins.

ok, so here's how it works:
1. Nobody gives a fck about collusion at .50/1 tables. if they do, they're obviously homosexual.
2. Party did this to prevent collusion at ALL limits, as it would be dumb to employ collusion-prevention measures at some tables but not others. If you ever make it to higher limits, you will thank them.
3. Nobody gives a flying fck about you not being able to play at the penny tables with your girlfriend.
4. Stop playing online poker with your girlfriend. wtf is that.

Best regards,
