Getting mad after losing live, yet not caring when online

So today I played a live home game with some really truly awful players, 1/2 uncapped buyin. I lost it all after a horrid suckout and blew 80$, keep in mind i gave 30$ to a friend after he busted. So anyways, after it was over I was absolutely furious, going crazy in my mind, which brings up this question. Why do I get so mad blowing 80$ live, yet barely mad about getting sucked out of a 400$ pot online.
Any input?

I think its because you can see the money and because you could have spent it at any time. Something you cant really do online, you cant see it and you cant just go and spend it right away, you have to take it out among other things.

Because you can see, in person, how horrible the other players are. And because you forget what a small sample size your entire live night is.

Most likely it is less than 1/2 hours worth online

Yea, I had them all covered.
I watched a guy buy in 40 bucks 8 times, continuosly going allin preflop or on the flop. Of course he busted me when he hit his 2 outer. I guess it irritates me that when I am online even if I lose my buyin to a worse player, I can stick around and bust them later into the match. Whereas at this home game I couldn't stick around long enough to bust him out, so the worse off players reigned supreme over me.
I guess all that really matters is long run, but it's still annoying.

Ego.

Also, don't lend friends money to gamble with. Apparently it affects you when he loses it.

It actually has nothing to do with it, I have no problem in my mind to give my buddies money to do whatever the hell they want with it. Were good like that, no one owes anyone anything, it just goes back and forth, they'll lend you sometimes and vice versa. Also, when your making as much as I make at my age you can afford to do this.

edit:
also, I feel it has nothing to do with ego, I know I am better than these people, so why should my ego take a shot?

edit:
Sorry if I sound abnormally cocky.

Then why mention it in your post as an added factor?

No. No ego at all...

Don't underestimate the power of ego. Especially in poker.

That's one prime reason your ego does take a shot. Lots of factors branch off ego. Entitlement is one very common one.

It can also be more personal live. With actual chips and people. Why not just answer your own question honestly, why does it bother you and make you furious? You may have to go through a few layers of denial before you get there.

btw...overcompetetiveness is also rooted a bit in ego.

It kills me when I lose $10 to my best friend when he calls all-in with bottom pair. I'm such a better player than him. Umm, so ya, bernie is right. I know I'd beat him in a 'real game' so it kills me to lose in a cheap game.

Only real advice I have is a "winner drinks a shot" rule. Remember, you are playing for fun here.

I think its obvious - and I am surprised that no one has said this.

These are your buddies - these are guys you probably talk to all the time about your poker playing - you want to beat them to show them all what a good poker player you are. So when you lose, you are embarassed to have lost. The people online are nobodies to you. They are just chips for you to take. Its a totally different dynamic.

Its funny because I have a long-standing game with my buddies as well - going on 7 years now - and it is the one game where I honestly don't care if I win or lose. It is about the social aspect. Now that I take poker seriously, I crave that opportunity to just have some fun with the guys.

May I suggest that you adopt a similar approach. Clearly with all the money you are making, you don't need to take $$$ from your friends - so just play it like a fun night and let it go.

My buddies accompanied me to this homegame. The people I was playing with are not by any means my buddies. The guy that busted me playing like a retard is actually someone I rather despise. I consider him scum.

All the more reason you would want to beat him.

It is clear that these are personal issues. I imagine that if you went to a casino and played against complete strangers, you would play more like you do online - or perhaps not - perhaps you are not so disciplines a player yet that you can overcome the personality issues.

So, did you not bring enough money to rebuy and then bust him?

Re: Getting mad after losing live, yet not caring when online

i'm actually the opposite. if i get mad/frustrated, it tends to be when i'm playing online. when i'm playing live, though, and take a bad beat it really doesn't get my blood boiling the way it sometimes does online. i stay much more relaxed when i'm playing live. maybe its just because i've played much more online, and haven't had to deal with an extended downswing live.
