Where is Amarillo Slim?
 

What happened to Amarillo Slim? I never heard the results of his child molestation case. Was he convicted? Was he exonerated but shunned by the poker world?

It's as if his name has been erased from the books.

Not sure on Slim, but I ran into him at last years WSOP, I assume he's still competing, but like a lot of old pros (pre-BOOM), not showing up on the radar.

You could say this about lots of old timers who just aren't household names.

I tracked down the story, In Feb. 2004, Slim got two years deferred adjudication and a $4,000 fine, charges were lowered to a misdeamenor, so he basically paid $4000 + court costs and lawyers and that was that.

The sexual offense charges were tossed, he pled guilty to three simple assault charges.

site is hillarious. I like the varkoni comment where the guy says if you put moneymaker and varkoni on celebrity poker they would finish behind david schwimmer. granted i think moneymaker is a pretty good player.

He spent most of last week in Tulsa, Oklahoma
 

We have a relatively new card room that is pretty nice. Slim spent last week playing mostly PL Omaha. I think he liked being a big fish in a small pond.

I have no knowledge of Slim's situation other than what has been reported. However--

My friend's elderly father was sitting on the porch watching the grandkids and great-grandkids, when a 4-year old girl skinned her knee. She ran to him, he wiped her knee with a hanky, and sent her on her way with a pat on the butt.

The child's mother, who was going through a divorce from one of his sons, saw this and called the police. For purely vindictive reasons.

He got two years and never did fully comprehend what happened.

This is why I'm reluctant to pass judgment on Slim.

I call bullshit. I guarantee there is either WAY more to this story, or it is a total fabrication. Elderly men with clean records and several corroborating defense eyewitnesses do not do 2 years because of a "vindictive mom". Yet another Urban legend....
