Where do you check your CPU temp?
Computer is running hot.
I am running XP Home on a Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop. Thanks |
Re: Where do you check your CPU temp?
It's usually a file called ctemp under C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM. Good luck.

Re: Where do you check your CPU temp?
Or in your BIOS upon startup.

Re: Where do you check your CPU temp?
There is nothing in my System folder titled temp. I will check the bios, but that looked more like a test when I tried it.
I will do a search on Google and see if there is a free system diagnostics software or something that shows you your cpu temp, etc... If anyone else has a suggestion with XP Home, please let me know. Thanks |

Re: Where do you check your CPU temp?
I use "MBM 5" (Motherboard Monitor).
|
Re: Where do you check your CPU temp?
I downloaded MBM5, but it needed to know what the motherboard was. I then downloaded PC Wizard to find out what the motherboard was, and it also had what I was looking for.
It says my processor is at 60' celsius and the meter is in the red. Is this really bad or just marginal? |
Re: Where do you check your CPU temp?
Download CpuZ, it will give you information about everything inside your computer. Use that to get your motherboard type for MBM.
edit: www.cpuid.com |
Re: Where do you check your CPU temp?
It depends on the CPU.

Re: Where do you check your CPU temp?
EDIT:
I now see you have a laptop. Disregard what I said, I was talking desktops. |
Re: Where do you check your CPU temp?
mobile meter is freeware that seems to work well. it monitors cpu temp, batter charge/discharge rate, and HD temp.

Don't let it drop too fast or you'll dislodge the DSP smoothing pins from the 64Mod gates and then you'll have a serious issue with electron backflow, similar to what happened on some disasterous shuttle flights. This can dammage both the MMU and the FPP not to mention disabling 3 of the 4 quad-pipelining managers. Good luck though. |
Re: Where do you check your CPU temp?
I use the tools that came with my ASUS motherboard.
