Thought I was the only one who sometimes advocated just calling preflop with Queens.

Very nicely played IMO. I like your aggressive play with QQ. And I like the fact that you can lay it down. Time to move up a level.

for those calling preflop, what is you line on a ragged underflop?

Re: Folding QQ to PF reraise

Depends on Villain's move.

Re: Folding QQ to PF reraise

yes agree, depends on what villian does.

but the basic idea is not going broke without hitting a third queen, keeping the pot in control, and making sure you can still be called by a weaker pair like TT, JJ, or an AJ tptk

people do this with Aj? or tt?

I think they were advocating just calling the initial preflop raise, not the re-raise.

Re: Folding QQ to PF reraise

By "keeping the pot in control" you are allowing button, SB, and BB to enter with marginal holdings. You are allowing UTG limper to call. Now you are in maybe a 6 way pot with the third best starting hand you can be dealt.

Hero kept things under control by raising preflop, and then folding to the reraise. Hero showed strength, Villian showed more strength and is saying he has AA, KK, AK, most of the time. If you call the $2 initially, and get a rag board, and villian leads for 2/3 pot, you are probably calling. And now you have invested more than your initial $8 anyway.

By calling and getting in a family pot, you are basically playing your queens for set value, and that isn't too smart IMO.

Re: Folding QQ to PF reraise

you sound like someone with no idea of how to play postflop.

edit- if you switch to playing queens for set value after calling the 4 bb raise, that is awful and weak tight. that is what i mean.

Maybe you misread what I was saying. I was saying if you are just calling the $2 preflop like everyone is advocating here, you are basically playing them for set value in a 6 way pot or so. If you raise preflop and try to get headsup with the initial raiser, you can play poker with them.

I think he was exaggerating slightly to make the point that a lot of weak As and Ks are going to see the flop if I don't reraise. I think he'd probably make QQ for the best hand postflop if neither A or K hits.

Re: Folding QQ to PF reraise

bingo. obviously, if they reraise preflop, i put them on more than AJ or TT, a lot more. but the first raise in could be those hands
