Best line with KQ...

Party Poker 0.50/1 Hold'em (8 handed) http://216.119.70.224/converter/hhconverter.pl

I have no reads for Villian, which is to bad. I've seen him showdown 2 hands A6o and AJo both were A high and were no good.

Preflop: Hero is MP2 with Q[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], K[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img].
2 folds, MP1 calls, Hero raises, 4 folds, MP1 calls.

Flop: (5.50 SB) 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (2 players)
MP1 checks, Hero bets, MP1 raises, Hero..?

What is my line here? 3-bet the flop or call and pop the turn? Explain.

sometimes i check raise the turn but i only do that if i've since him fold. he doesn't sound like he folds. i 3-bet. and lead the turn

Re: Best line with KQ...

You've got it heads up and you're going to win this hand just about every time, so you're not worried about being drawn out on.

So I see two ways to play this, depending on MP1. If you're sure he'll bet the turn when checked to, then call the flop and check-raise the turn. This wins you an extra SB than if you 3-bet and he calls down from there.

If you're not sure, 3-bet the flop and lead all the way. You win less than a successful check-raise, but you win more than a whiffed check-raise.

Re: Best line with KQ...

what Dave said: if he'd bet the turn when checked to, i'd call this.

but i'd make my turn decision (check versus leading) based on what card fell. if it is, say a total blank, i'd c/r. but if it is a A or K, say, i might lead out and hope he raises again just an idea.

Re: Best line with KQ...

With no reads, he could be raising with A2 or any pocket pair. He could also have the other Q with a lower kicker then yours. With no PF raise, I can't put him on AQ or KQ, so I think your hand is good. There are only 2 possible hands that you can be behind here..22, Q2. I think it is highly likely he is raising with a smaller PP or A2.

I 3 bet here, call if he caps and lead the turn.

I'm just calling the flop.
(anyone mind, if I get my feet wet here?)

Re: Best line with KQ...

Well, he is 1st to act, so I can't CR.

So, 3 bet the flop and bet/raise the turn?

Please, get 'em soaking wet.

Why just call the flop?

Re: Best line with KQ...

I call the flop and since I'm not as good as tilt and Dave, I raise the turn rather than check-raise from last position

Against a random villain who might find a fold on the turn with a weak hand, I'd consider calling the turn and raising the river. Since hero here has seen villain be willing to show down weak hands, I'd rather raise the turn since I'm not confident he'd fire again on the river.

I'm going to call the flop, bet/raise to turn.

Woops. Very true. Well, you got the gist of it. Slow down on the flop and stick it to him on the turn. Since you have position this is a much better line, there's no chance of it being checked through. Give him a chance to lead into you when he is probably drawing close to dead.

Re: Best line with KQ...

If you just call, he might bet/raise a weaker hand on the turn.

If we lead the turn and he raises again, I may start to question myself and see monsters under the bed. The weak/tight in me would be screaming to just call and then check/call or bet/call a raise on the river.

The proper line however is probably call the flop, raise the turn and bet the river. I am a pansy though and that scares me...someone hold me.

I call and pop the turn. Too many times I've 3 bet this and had him check fold on the turn. If he is playing crap and showing down A high, you should get plenty of action from him later too.

Edit: Yeah I don't think check raising is correct here.

That would have to be a pretty big bed...I'm pretty sure MHIG.
My thought was that if I just called the flop, he would check the turn and fold to a bet if he has nothing. I'm hoping he does have a QT, QJ..etc. and we can go to war.

you almost certainly have the best hand here. the board is rainbow and there's no straight possibilities. I think slowplaying here is fine. pop him on the turn.

HU I like to call the flop, planning to bet/raise the turn. If there were more people in the hand, I'd 3bet.

Re: Best line with KQ...

This is a classic situation where you aren't worreid about him raising for a free card so you can safely call this flop and raise his turn bet. He'll pay you off with almost any pocket pair or a worse Q.

As I said, it's the weak tight in me and the fact that I have been on a downswing lately where I will show a monster and someone else will devour it I have to force myself to get out of that scared thought process though.
