Biggest B&M Pet Peeves
Air your grievances here
My biggest pet peeve by far is when someone bets on the river, I call, and they delay showing their hand and say something like, "Can you beat an ace?" You bet, I call, you show. It's not very difficult. A variant of this that is just as bad is when they only show one card. My second bigest pet peeve are the jackasses who think they are Johnny Chan and look up into the air during decisions like Chan did against Seidel in the WSOP hand from Rounders. A couple of months ago at the Borgata I was playing a 2-5 NL game against a young Asian guy who was pulling this routine (I mention the fact that he is Asian because Borg regulars may know him because I have seen him there several times). Anyway, the kid was a good player, but he was taking forever and staring people down on even the most trivial decisions. He also had the annoying habit of announcing his opponents hand every time he laid down a hand (Your kings are good, etc.) So after this went on for a while I decided to intentionally get in a heads up pot against him with total junk and show it down when he announced my hand. So after a while he opened for $20 from early position, I minraised to $40 with 47o and it was folded around to him. After staring me down and saying "Why such a small raise?" he called and we saw a flop. T-8-3. He led into the pot with $50, and again I minraised to $100 (I knew this would piss him off) and he stared me down again, then looked up into the air while thinking, and finally said "Your Aces are good" and folded. I showed my 47o and the look on his face was worth much more than the $100 I just won. |
Re: Biggest B&M Pet Peeves
as you were showing the 47o you should have said "Nice read...good fold"

Re: Biggest B&M Pet Peeves
This doesn't happen a lot, but my biggest pet peeve is when after you cash in your chips, some dickhead sees how much money you cashed and asks if he can have a "few dollars". One time, a guy even had the nerve to tell me he was diabetic and may go into a coma if I didn't give him money to buy lunch.

Re: Biggest B&M Pet Peeves
I hate the hand hiders too. I always end up acting out of turn when the guy on my right is hiding his hand, and then they are usually pissed you acted. Well I'm sorry, don't hide your friggin cards and I'll wait for you to act.

Re: Biggest B&M Pet Peeves
You've got to love the table expert "Yep AK, I knew it!, that's exactly what I put you on, AK." Usually said by a regular but awful player while nodding his head and grinning, looking around for recognition from the other idiots.
I always just ignore them but just once I'd like to say "Motherf****r, you've never put anyone on anything in your entire life." |

I hate it when people say 'I'll let you have it' as they fold like they are doing you a favor. You aren't letting me have it.. you know that I DO have it, so you are running away.

Re: Biggest B&M Pet Peeves
I've only played live a few times, but I've seen a couple of players get annoyed and muck a losing hand by flinging their cards and actually hitting the dealer with them. That's obnoxious. Boy, you must have some serious self-restraint to deal poker for a living.
|
Re: Biggest B&M Pet Peeves
The guy who colors up everytime he gets a few chips in front of him, and only leaves himself with 3 bets worth of the chips used in the game. This player always is terrible and winds up playing colored up chips soon after slowing the game down, and will pester the dealer to buy back the higher value whenever he wins a pot. I [censored] hate that guy.

Re: Biggest B&M Pet Peeves
I ran into a guy at the 2-4 at Harrah's AC Saturday afternoon.
He took about 30 seconds for every decision. It took alot of restraint for me to not go ballistic. On the one hand he took atleast 1 minute, probably close to 90 seconds, and then finally folded his hand.. I was ready to take his cowboy hat and pull it down over his fat head. |

Re: Biggest B&M Pet Peeves
I play mostly in a 5-150 spread limit game, so the bet can vary in size quite a bit, it is generally played as a red chip game and with the rare green chip. So with that said...
People that stack out a 100 bet in piles of two! People that throw their chips on the table with other people's throw chips before the dealer can stack them so that the dealer has to stop the game and count the chips that aren't even in the pot yet! People that can not look at a neatly stacked bet and tell how much is there. When you say raise "100" put out the called amount and then stack out 100 more and the dipshit you are HU with asks "How much more to me?" |

Donk playing for the $60-min buy-in at 1/2 NL (all white meat I should add). Finally gets a monster, tries to peel a Benjamin off the roll sitting behind his stack when the river comes.

I usually just chuckle and say "check". This has happened on numerous occasions. I guess it's maybe a bad habit of mine but the dealers really need to pay closer attention to the action. |
Re: Biggest B&M Pet Peeves
My biggest pet peeve is when people get mad if other people stop and think. Now I don't think everyone should take a couple minutes to make a decision but if someone has a big decision to make I don't mind giving the player 30 seconds to think about it.

Re: Biggest B&M Pet Peeves
My personal biggest pet peeve is slow rollers. If they do it trying to piss me off, it's working. The old guys who get a deck change every hour on the hour (but try every 30 minutes) are a close second.
My biggest general peeve is people treating the dealers like crap. Last weekend a dealer told a guy that he couldn't push chips to his buddies. He protested, the floor was called, and he said they'd been doing it for hours, "and now this jerk-off says we can't." (He's obviously a regular, knows all the floormen by name, and they know him, goes into the kitchen area to get himself a Pepsi, etc... He sees the sign on every shuffling machine which says NO PUSHING, NO ABUSE). Anyway, this guy is calling the dealer names to the floorperson, who whispers something in his ear (I think he was saying stop doing it until the next down) and he says, "He's just being an ass-hole..." I'm wondering when the floor is going to tell him to stop abusing the dealer. Of course, you can guess what comes next. When he folds, he puts his cards outside the line, with one corner just close enough to touching it that John McEnroe would have a hard time making the call. He loudly proclaims that he's not tipping the guy (trying to bully the rest of the table into not tipping, as well) and when he won a pot, said, "Good, I like winning your pots. Push it here, boy." |
Re: Biggest B&M Pet Peeves
Every time I read one of these threads, I feel like a lot of 2+2ers are really wound up way too tight. Just relax, have a few beers, and don't let any of this nonsense bother you. You'll have a lot more fun.

Re: Biggest B&M Pet Peeves
I do this (not often, and usually to someone I'm chummy with), but I also do it sarcastically making it clear I know I'm beat.
Mine are people who take forever to make the obvious decision. Calling 1 bet in a 20 BB pot on the river is almost always a simple decision (either way). People who play with stupidly short buyins, going all in and re-buying like 10 times. People who feel the need to justify their (bad) plays. Hey, you can play however you want. But I don't need to hear you tell me the pot was too big (and yet, you didn't have odds to call), or that you won with that hand earlier. (almost always older) people who fall asleep at the table repeatedly. It's not the hotel room, gramps. As much as I enjoy banging on the table to startle people into waking up, even. |

A variant of this that is just as bad is when they only show one card. [/ QUOTE ]I get very annoyed by this, as well. Re: Biggest B&M Pet Peeves
People who complain about being sucked out at low-limit tables. I play 1-2 or 2-4. Sooner or later during every session someone will get outdrawn and then start complaining saying stuff like 'If this was no-limit I would have been able to force you out. This isn't real poker. blah blah blah.'
Well buddy, the no-limit tables are across the room. Buh-bye. [ QUOTE ] Air your grievances here [/ QUOTE ] |

I like to respond, if this is No Limit you would have lost more money. That usually shuts them up.

Re: Biggest B&M Pet Peeves
Definitely a player at a 3/6 table giving me a long staredown from behind a pair of shades. I usually just laugh at them no matter what and they think that gives them some kind of huge read on me.
A close second is the showing of only one card at showdown but I don't play much B+M so I'm sure I could come up with more. |
Re: Biggest B&M Pet Peeves
Only two things really bother me at the poker table. Table coaches and people who smell bad.

This punk who was wearing sunglasses bet and I raised. So he stares at me for 2 mins., then takes his glasses off and continues to stare. I was trying not to laugh but it was hard. Anyway, after another min. or so, he says "No, you don't have it." and he reraises. I look concerned for about 10 seconds and then raise it back to him. So then he backs down and calls. I turn over the cards and ask him if the ace of diamonds was what he meant by when he said I didn't have it. Then, he turns over his cards and he had bottom pair! I almost laughed and said "Thank god for the river." Then he said "Yea, tell me about it." I still laugh when I think about that guy. |

Re: Biggest B&M Pet Peeves
OK, U HAD to exclude punks in sunglasses....so the next big thing for me is the husband-and-wife combo...man, dudes are such wimps when their women play...I got 3-way with a husband and wife (at the poker table, not on the poker table) and check-raised - bluffed with 8-4 suited, after board totally missed (checked from the BB), he folded, shrugged at his wife to fold, so I naturally rolled-over the ol' 4-8....automatic TILTED the dude...cashed in on him later...
