Why almost nobody plays at Paradise here

Hello !

I play almost exclusively at Paradise and I wonder why so few 2+2'ers play there. Nolimit games seems pretty soft and limit have tons of action too (at least 10/20 and higher). What is more the sofware is the best in the market and other sites are not even close (that's no.1 reason I play there I would consider Party if they fixes the slider for nolimit).
Summing up I can see few good reasons to play there and only one not to (3tables limit).
Could sb tell me what is wrong with Paradise ?

Best wishes

I play at paradise, but not as often as I used to. The software seems to run slower than most other sites. The big reason a lot of people here don't play there is that you can only play three tables at a time.

I play Paradise the most regularly out of all the sites. I couldn't get on with the software at Party at all. Pokerroom's software is OK as well.

I think people just play Party because it attracts more fish. They advertise a lot and so get more beginners. You can also get a lot of software for it to help you out... but that's a whole other thread today.

I tried out Paradise for a little while but I'm not a big fan of the site. I actually prefer Party's software. I only play limit so I have no need for sliders. And it might just be the time of day I like to play but I can find better tables on Party. Paradise was a rock garden when I wanted to play at night. I know it's a small sample I have but I like to stick with what works.

I tried adding paradise tables to my multitablings and found that their software did not do a good enough job alerting me when I had a hand, so I repeatedly timed out, then cashed out.

Re: Why almost nobody plays at Paradise here

It's so much easier to multitable at Party. Plus the games are just too juicy to leave.

Re: Why almost nobody plays at Paradise here

Years ago they had the best software. Now it's slow when multitabling and there is no disconnect protect. Lost 23BB pot once with the nut-straight when got disconnected for the last bet on the river. Reason enough for me to stay away.

It's one of the slowest sites. Old software. Good support.

Re: Why almost nobody plays at Paradise here

party has more players, and a higher percentage of fishy ones. also their signup and reload bonuses on the main site and skins are usually better and more frequent. you can play 4 tables at a time (and multiple skins simultaneously) and there is r******* available if you set that up as well. they have a moderately useful player points system, and though I'm sure any site's software can always be improved, I haven't really found anything to dislike about party network personally.

that being said, on the occasion where Paradise is running a bonus, I'm sure most people (including myself) go back and play it off. but they are too no-frills overall to make it the "home" site for a majority of zoo members.

Re: Why almost nobody plays at Paradise here

There's nothing "wrong" with Paradise. It's all about preference. Right now, I spend about 25% of my play there. Paradise was my first site and I have always liked playing there.

I suspect that there are three reasons why more people do not play there:

1. You can only play 3 tables at once.
2. They do not offer frequent reload bonuses like other sites do (Party & Skins, etc.)
3. The play has been historically tighter in general relative to many other sites.

In regards to #3, I have noticed that the games have loosened up in the past few months. Especially at night. Paradise was purchased, I believe, by sportsbook.com and it seems that some of the gamblers have come over to Paradise to play some poker.

It is compatible with PT. I'm not sure about GT, and I dont use PV.

My main complaints are the slowness/lags and lack of bonuses/RB.

The tables are reasonably loose at night.

Pros:
Reasonably fishy tables
Good support
Crazy Pineapple (wish they had tourneys)

Cons:
Processor hog software
Garish color scheme
Hand History functionality is crude these days.

Play there a decent bit, mostly to get my CP fix. Great game.

Re: Why almost nobody plays at Paradise here

I play on Paradise and have no complaints about the games at any time of day. The software, however, is another matter.

It's terribly slow. Sometimes I want it quite obvious that I have fired out a bet, only to click and then wait, and wait, and wait for it to appear on the table.

Playing even two tables is very, very slow.

Frequently when I'm not in a hand I look up when I hear the cards dealing for the next hand and discover that I have been "timed out," missed the hand, and have to click back in.

At least once a day I call a raise, prepare to fold to the 3-bet and Paradise politely calls it for me before I can click fold.

In NL I sometimes type in the amount of a bet and get a message telling me to enter an amount in the range of 10 to whatever number I just typed in. I have to go to the slider to get it to take the very same number.

I guess the disconnects are no worse than Party, but I've had pocket aces and the nut straight folded for me this week.

Re: Why almost nobody plays at Paradise here

The software is slow and more annoying to look at, there aren't as many games, the customer service makes Party look GOOD by comparison... etc.

Re: Why almost nobody plays at Paradise here

Within the last few months, Paradise 3/6 and 5/10 has gotten a little softer than Party. I only play Paradise when they have a bonus because:

1. You have to manually order hand histories from the lobby, 100 hands at a time. It's really a pain in the ass.

2. No rakeback.

3. The software is a tad slow.

4. The tables don't pop up when it's your turn to act, so you don't want to have a browser open over the tables or else you might time out and not know it.

5. There's a glitch in the list of tables in the lobby. Sometimes tables disappear. For example, it will list only 3 different 3/6 limit holdem games when in fact there are 4 running.

6. Tournaments get delayed very frequently for "maintenence" or whatever they call it.

7. No datamining.

NLfool 07-09-2005 11:45 PM

Re: Why almost nobody plays at Paradise here

only place where their "guart. tourn" are delayed so they don't have to shell out the overlay or where they take rake on rebuys and addons (though I think other sites maybe doing this now, but paradise did it without telling people in the beginning). Other shady practices

If paradise had a better bonus setup I would probably play on it more. Have it all released at once. How many players they average, 8,000?

Paradise was my favourite site. I still like it but my principal issue now is the lack of hard drive HHs. They need to start making some effort.

Re: Why almost nobody plays at Paradise here

I usually don't play at paradise unless there's a bonus for a few reasons:

I could be playing at a different site with rakeback/a bonus

The slowroll thing when you show down hands is annoying but doesn't bother me too much, definitely a con though, just for the fact you get less hands in

The games are fine, just not as loose as others

I enjoy playing there with a bonus, but don't play there otherwise. Actually I never play anywhere without a bonus/rakeback so wudeva.

Edit: Forgot to mention you have to request hand histories by email, and GT+ is not efficient to run.

Re: Why almost nobody plays at Paradise here

I agree with many arguments against Paradise in this post but this one seems to be strange.
Main reason I play at Paradise is graphics and sounds. In my opinion its the only site with pleasant colours, and the only one when I feel like actually "playing". Stars would be close to this but theit yellow-green layout is annoying in my opinion + there is "crowd" at the table.
UltimateBet has nice graphics but its ultimate rock-garden unfortunately.

Best wishes

I enjoy playing at paradise, however the lack of the "unmentionable", tough PT compatibility, almost zero
promotion by the site to draw fish leads me elsewhere most of the time. It seems they are comfortable with where their
at, with 8-10 thousand players, also there are very rarely any kind of bonuses. They just aren't trying to win my business

I started chasing bonuses about 2 months ago, Paradise was on my list. I found the software painfully slow. Also, when keeping notes, there is no graphical indication a note has been filed on a player.

Re: Why almost nobody plays at Paradise here

No rakeback is probably the most important thing. Also automating hand history collection dos'nt work any more. I still play a fair number of tournaments there.

Re: Why almost nobody plays at Paradise here

Paradise is like going back to the small town where you grew up and feeling sad because nothing is being kept up.

Paradise was my first site and I loved it. But the new owners are milking it and not investing in improvements. The competition has passed them by. Their once famous software is now buggy and slow compared to Party and others.

BTW, it's true that you can't get rakeback, but that is partially compensated by a lower rake schedule.

Re: Why almost nobody plays at Paradise here

I wish they'd offer a monthly type of reload to keep players there. With so many other sites competing for the casual player through reloads and other nice promotions, Paradise is being forgotten. At least by me.

Re: Why almost nobody plays at Paradise here

Basically I downloaded the site to check out the software because of this post. I see that they have 40-80, and I was thinking this is the only site that I know of to have 40-80 games. So I made an account. I played at 3PM PST in those 40-80 games and WOW those games are tough and full or sharks. I was not impressed. Are the 40-80's usually like this... or at times are they full of fishies??

Paradise also has some of the softest micro games around. I mean Party is the softest, but Paradise LHE games below 1/2 are mos def crushable. I play a Party b/c of PV combined with HD hand histories mainly.

I find it hard to see what's going on in a hand due to the graphics. It is a very minor issue, but annoys me.

I can't believe people are saying their support is good. I send then an email, get a form response which in no way helps me. I send another email asking for a real response, get one, and it is way off target. My UPB partner had the same issues with them when he was trying to play there. Party may send you garbled English, but generally their garbled English is on target.

The main reason I dont play there is that they hardly get their big NL game going because you have to have $2000 in your account to sit at the 2-5 NL and that usually makes it so the game doesnt go....... stupid on Paradise's part...... but hey theyve been 2 years behind the learning curve for 4 years now

I just recently played there to do the GRANNY bonus and Did really well. Games seemed to be loose at the 2/4 limit tables, but I can't play there anymore due to the little Blackjack tables they have. I'm addicted to this -EV game and if its there I have to play it therefore I won't put money in Paradise. GRANNY MAE could you please get someone to delete the Blackjack game off of Paradise!

GrannyMae 07-11-2005 06:05 PM

Re: Why almost nobody plays at Paradise here

as firefly stated, you can remove it.

i'm not sure if this diables it though. you should email support and ask them if they can disable it, thus removing not only the temptation, but the ability to actually play the game.

if you do this, please let me/us know if this is something support can do.

i love paradise and play there most days although its probably only 15-20% of my total on-line poker activity

my favourite tournament on-line is the daily $50,000 gauranteed $30 rebuy and add-on - my favourite short handed games are the paradise 5 max - and i can always lapse into draw, pineapple or 5 card stud - its also the only site that allows you to smoke at the table

paradise isnt full of good players as many advertise - when i play in the 40/80 limit there is commonly several chooks playing
