DN Matches

Haven't been following Negreanu's matches lately. Anyone know the score or where I can easily find it? How many has he won/lost? How much is he up/down?

Re: DN Matches

I think he's 2-2 with Barry. He lost one to Cassidy. I think he played Evelyn Ng and won. If I were you, I would visit Daniels website at www.fullcontactpoker.com to keep up to date with this topic.

Re: DN Matches

lost to david oppenheim for $250k
won against mimi tran for $500k
lost to joe cassidy for $200k
lost to barry greenstein for $500k
lost to barry greenstein again for $500k
won against barry greenstein for $500k
currently has another match in progress with BG
anything beyond that, i have no clue.

sorry. he never played evelyn ng.

Re: DN Matches

if he beats barry in the current match his net for all the matches will be 50k I believe.

SNOWBALL138 07-06-2005 02:00 AM

Re: DN Matches

actually, even if he beats barry in the current match, he'll be up less than 50k if you include that 15k side bet that barry will own daniel in 2/3 of the first matches. believe it or not, this bet was offered at even money (!)

However, I'm sure his agent is looking at this kind of chest thumping self promotion as ways to sell STACKED, get more endorsements, and then finally unleash a book when the DN fervor is at a crescendo.

OTOH, I don't think Daniel is doing these matches for monetary considerations. I think he's just a wildly irresponsible gambler and an egomaniac.

You are correct sir...but id venture to guess Wynn is gonna be more than willing to reimburse any losses...that is if it wasnt wynn's money to begin with. Advertising costs..

I guess we'll be correcting the misinformed for as long as these matches continue.

Negreanu has stated in no uncertain terms that he is putting up all the money for these matches (unless he sells part of himself to friends).

In addition, I believe it was Sklansky who mentioned it would be a violation of Nevada gaming laws for Wynn to provide any backing to Negreanu for this.

I suppose by misinformed you mean those people who have a life outside sweating the minutia of day 2 day poker current events. Sometimes postin on 2+2 can be so dard depressing.

Plus how naive are you if you believe those gaming rules cannot be circumvented in about a million different ways.

Since we are still talking about it I guess Wynn is a genious afterall...

i think you are dead wrong in asserting that there would be any violations.

DN could be doing it looking toward impressing the new boss, banking the publicity will payoff soon in merchandising/publishing etc. i also believe as well that there may be a tad of degeneracy in there.

no need to circumvent laws, and if you think this way then you probably think online poker is rigged, and you cheat on your taxes. am i right?

How responsible can a person be who keeps all of his money in a non-interest bearing safe deposit box?

For some reason I found this quote very comical..... I do recall a time when I joined that Zaxx had 3.4 posts in every thread.

Looks like somebody has been watching to much Tilt. There is no way Steve Wynn would risk getting in to trouble with the gaming commision over poker, the least profitable game in his brand new casino. Yeah put millions and millions he has invested and the billions he stands to make over poker you believe that you are the naive one.

He does that for tax reasons. He saves more on not reporting (probably) than he would make on interest.

I was wondering about this last one. It seemed it started awhile ago. Is it still going on? I haven't seen anywhere on his blog where he states an outcome to it or it's current status.

Sundevils21, what's the dealio?

him and Evelyn are good friends - can't see them trying to take each other's money in a spot like that...

I'm sure it's not for tax reasons. Have you ever tried to pull a large amount of money out of your bank? The hassle is enormous. He probably keeps the cash for his side games so he has easy access without endless forms to fill out when he wants to get it. I would guess he probably has lines of credit set up with most of the major casinos as well so he doesn't have to travel with much cash. (See Greg Raymer robbery stories for the risks in that endeavour).

They havent played for a few weeks because of the WSOP. They made an agreement that if either of them made it past 6pm in a days event they wouldnt play that night. I also think both of their minds are on the WSOP more than finihshing their 4th match. Look for it to continue after the main event.

As for the money...I can promise you this: Daniel is playing with his own money. Wynn Las Vegas has no part of Daniel's bankroll, what he wins or loses, nor are they paying him anything additional to play these matches.
These matches were Daniel's idea, Wynn is simply the place he is playing them.
Anyone that knows anything about the operations of a poker room and it's potential will understand why even the thought of risking only $500k would make no sense at all.

You might be right.

I thought he might leave the money in the box so he wouldn't have to fill out forms for each night for breaking the 10k mark. Also, this would allow him to be more creative when filling out his taxes, possibly reducing his tax hit.

Just saw DN in a video interview from Cardplayer and he said they resumed the match and Barry started winning again and they finished the session with DN now stuck around $230,000.

You must have seen an old video. They have played two sessions of match #4 (the last one a few weeks ago), and Daniel is up $311k.

They havent finished the match at Wynn, there is no mention of the match continuing on DN's site, and I see no interview on CardPlayer.com with Daniel from Today (or yesterday).
