Borgata\'s expansion?

I tried getting an answer out of a hotel checkin girl but no answer. I'm curious as to what their expansion has in store for us.

about 100 tables total in mid-2006.

Re: Borgata\'s expansion?

From what i've heard from some of the dealers, it'll be on the first floor with a total of 90+ tables.

Which I have to say is pretty badass.

edit: too slow.

This has been mentioned before but I was playing with a dealer at the Taj (Mike, engaged to one of the redundantly hot asian chicks) who filled me in on the Borg's new chips. They're getting the same type of chips except they're grooved so that they're much easier to stack and won't slide all over the place if they're knocked over.

WOW!

Looks like they're planning a AC version of "WSOP".. will put the USPC at the Taj to shame.

Re: Borgata\'s expansion?

Another thing the borg is doing is building an entirely new tower! The casino in the tower is set to be ready by summer 2006. and the new 2000 rooms will be ready sometime after this. No idea if this is where the cardroom is being placed but that's pretty crazy.

Maulik 07-05-2005 03:27 PM

is Borgata building another tower too or just a wing?

from my source who is an employee at the casino (not a dealer), she says a new tower with a ton of new rooms, a top end penthouse spa, and more casino space. So basically, borgata is gonna blow every other casino in AC outta the water in the next 2 years.

Re: Borgata\'s expansion?

Boyd Gaming updated their Borg expansion plans when they renewed their AC casino license a few weeks ago.
http://phx.corporate-ir.net/phoenix....amp;highlight=

the "public space" expansion comes first, 2Q 2006. added gaming space (incl. poker), nightclubs and restaurants.

the new tower is scheduled for 4Q 2007. it's still in the planning stage and construction (obviously) has not started yet. another 800 rooms which will bring the total to just under 3000.

Showboat HOB will probably start siphoning business from the Taj slowly until Borg kicks up next year. the Trop can try and get more competitive as well, and maybe even Bally's/Caesars will figure out how to deal poker properly, to take advantage of their centralized location on the boardwalk.

I was at Bally's on Saturday and they had maybe 4 poker games going out of about 15 tables. They had a lot of dealers just sitting around at empty tables. I think they are having problems in general though as Wild West was definitely the least crowded of all the casinos I was in.

sekrah 07-05-2005 08:03 PM

Re: Borgata\'s expansion?

Bally's is the only one of all the casinos that I think can compete with Borgata IF THEY CHOSE TOO.

I can't wait to visit the Showboat next week.. I predict that will start rocking very shortly as people scramble from the Taj.

Taj has been taking advantage of people for years because they've been pretty much the only game in town.. It's time to stick it to those filthy bastards.

Agreed. Dealers didn't have half a clue.

I didn't mention it in my report but the thing that bugged me the most was how quiet the poker room is. You can here the music wafting in from outside but non in the room itself. Its the freakin' HoB for heaven's sake. I don't care if the old nits would pitch a fit, don't need them in my games anyway.

sekrah 07-05-2005 08:38 PM

Re: Borgata\'s expansion?

The fact that they keep their poker room looking like a filthy whorehouse is one.

Taj could make a fortune if they offered to sell rubber gloves to people as they entered the poker room. Please dispose of them in the Toxic Waste Can before you leave however.

Mike Gallo 07-05-2005 08:56 PM

The Taj will always have games and players....

I have to disagree with everyone who thinks the Taj poker room will faulter and lose its clientele.

I compare poker players to sharks in another respect, they will go to where they can find the best food source.

As long as the movie Rounders stays in circulation, the Taj will draw business from the casual player who wants to play in a famous casino.

Think about it, playing at the Taj until dawn where the sand turns to gold...check raising stupid tourists. Some of the posters who know this scene from Rounders by heart will correct this for me I hope

Re: The Taj will always have games and players....

Well it's definently not going to happen overnight.. and especially as long as Taj holds the premier tournament in AC (USPC)

But it's going to be a little bit here and there, slowly the regulars will move into other spots.,

If you want to see the proof in the pudding, look at the Borgata waiting lists!

when Borgata opens up the new room, I think Taj is going to have alot of empty space they are probably going to end up filling with slot machines.

Where are the biggest games in Vegas? Bellagio!

MGM is taking over AC in the same fashion!

Re: Borgata\'s expansion?

The Taj regulars that have been playing there for over ten years are not going to change their card room to play a bunch of WPT wannabes.

The HOB needs to do some advertising/tournament with low vig to generate some business (I was there July 4th at 6 A.M. and there was one table going, I don't know if there was any action at night or not). The automatic card shufflers and plasma TVs should help out the room though.

Re: The Taj will always have games and players....

The Borgata room has been half dead this summer according to my own observations and a dealer. I used to have to wait two hours to play 10/20 on a Sat. night, now I can walk in and sit down almost immediately.

Exactly, the same reason why the Trop will always have a room, a strong loyal clientele.

The hopeful outcome of all of this poker boom is an improvement in each room, I think there is a possibility that if a room is too stubborn to change or improve they will see a drop off.
