Pocket 3\'s

How should I have played this.

Rebuy event, top 5 pays, 30 entrants, down to the last 15 players avearge chip stack 15K.

Blinds 500,1000

7 players on my table, I'm big blind (no small blind for this hand as he went out on the previous hand)

Folded around to the button who is a very loose player

He does a minimum riase to 2000, so 1000 for me to call

I have 5,000 chips not including the Big Blind

What should I do?

How many chips does the button have? I said call, intending to push most flops, but my answer may change depending on button's stack.

Why? Not trying to be a smartass. Just curious? Do you think button is pot committed and calling a flop push anyways?

Since this does obviously look like a steal. And no, I don't think his odds are great enough to call.

I vote call - stop and go (push any flop)

He had about 40k and i think he was chip leader, at least definately chip leader on out table.

I pushed all in and thinking more and more it was the wrong choice

I like a stop and go here then, unless a 3 flops. The reason is I don't think you have much pf folding equity. A push is not bad, since you are ahead of his raising range and you will likely get in a race, but post flop you will have some folding equity if the flop misses him (or even maybe if he catches something like bottom pair weak kicker.) If a 3 flops check and hope he tries to move you out of the pot. (I'd check the flop and turn, push against any bet, and push the river if it goes check check on the flop and turn).
