Am I a saint or just stupid?

Situation:

I cashed out from a site and when I looked at my Neteller account I noticed that I have been credited a nice extra amount (3 digits). I contacted them told them I didn't want money that wasn't mine. That was about a month ago.

Today, I cashed out from another site and, guess what, they double credited me. Another 3 digit number.
So I contacted them too.

In the first case the site said thanks and then went to my Neteller account and took the money back.

In today's case they said thanks, asked me to transfer the money back and gave me a 10% finder's present.

So, am I the only one who this happens too?
Anyone else return money if they were wrongly credited?
BE HONEST!

By 3 extra digits, do you mean somewhere between $100 and $999, or something along the lines of cashing out $10 and getting $10,000?

I meant a 3 digit number.

meh, they'd end up finding where it went in the end, and you might get screwed if you spent it...good call with reporting it (i sound like a narc). happened to my buddy a couple times at the bank.

Several years a bank made an error and gave me a 20k cd that belonged to someone else. I gave it back, it took about 3 months to get it straightened out. I believe what "goes around, comes around".

I'd give it back, but not for altruistic reasons. I don't like to screw with karma. Especially at one of my core playing sites.

Bump up for a few more votes.

I would transfer it to an interest bearing account untill they asked for it back, that way, you at least get a couple of bucks for it if they ask for it back... 3 digit number is a wide range though, between 100 and 1000 basically, so, it depends a bit on the actual number too.

One site has double credited my account in several occasion, once $6000. I have give them back every time. Didin't get any reward, but im now getting much better service(withdraws in 30mins, no limits in any way etc) from the bookie, and the actual manager of the company answers my emails every time if I have something in mind.

Yup, I give it back as soon as I realize the mistake. I figure there is no free lunch and what comes around goes around.

I withdrew $500 from Gamesgrid, and received $1000. E-mailed them to let them know, they took it out for hours later, and didn't even e-mail me back to acknowledge or thank me for the e-mail.

i probably wouldn't even notice, and therefor would not give it back.

Plausable deniability. It makes me feel bad, but it works like a charm.

Dump the money back into your account and freeroll. If you win, send the profit to your bank account. If you lose, well, they've already got the money.

Seriously, though -- you did the right thing. I'm not sure about the ethics involved, but some things just aren't worth the hassle.

I would give it back since being able to continue to play on a site (and it is only sites I regularly play on that I withdraw from) has a value that exceeds a three digit amount.

I was once credited an extra grand by a sportsbook (twice what I tried to cash), and I kept every penny of it. They called me once to check on it and I lied. I don't feel bad about it at all, considering that the same book now has a shady reputation and several reports of players not getting paid.

Would you belive that I am having a problem returning the money!

There seems to be a problem with Neteller and they keep getting an error message.
Maybe I will charge them a holding fee.

Re: Am I a saint or just stupid?

Did you atleast ask them to fax you six forms of ID, and wait a few weeks before returning the money??

Nice one!

I hate the scumbags who clear their Neteller accounts so the site can't take the money back.

I was given an accidental credit once, btw. I e-mailed the site twice, but they still haven't taken the money back (3-4 months later).

Re: Am I a saint or just stupid?

It's really all about doing the right thing. I have never had this happen with a poker site but have had many similair experiences at stores. I even point out errors on restaurant tabs. In every instance, the clerk/waiter/waitress is dumbfounded. I've been "rewarded" with free deserts, drinks and gift certificates. Although most of the time the person just says "thank you". I don't do it for the "rewards" because they are less than the mistake . I just feel like you only get one shot at life. You can choose to do the right thing or not. My friend calls it the Grandmother test. If you explained it to your Grandmother, what would she say??

This sounds like the plan that Kaz had with about $650 in Granny money.

My wife's uncle once found $1 Million in his account!!!

He reported it to the bank and they thanked him very much etc.

A year later he found half a million!!
So, he phoned and complained - why only half a million this year?
