Super Magoo jamboree report!

This will be short as I'm hella tired and have to work in the morning.

We got to MGM, started having drinks and nametags made around 7pm, did a role call at 730pm and the donking began at 8pm! We had a total of 4 tables after the MGM floor staff made sure to combine a few live games to accomodate us.

MAJOR Props to all the MGM staff. The floors, dealers, chip runners, and waitresses even though they were short handed in the drink department. The dealers were instructed that we were a good bunch and just deal whatever and I can honestly say...NO MISSDEALS! not one, nothing. We did have more of the experienced ones in the upstairs room though.

Highlights of the night:
Dynasty with 1k in blue ($1 chips) on the table for his buy in.
Howard Burroughs shows up and just has to outdo Dynasty and gets another 1k to go on top of the rack he bought from another player. I think they brought well over 3500 in dollar chips to our table upstairs!

It was a pleasure getting to meet and chat with Mason and Ed for a few minutes when they were there

TT is still a magoo but he didn't stay very long!

Believe it or not the worst beat of the night on our table was Trillig against a player to be named later. Full house over full house on the river I believe! Trillig lost! haha
I had to hear about it as I drove him home, lol I was like...dude I was there and it was funny!

All in all a great night and tons of fun. I talked to Garry Boyd who was the floorman in charge of allowing us to set this thing up and accomodating us and he said there have been zero complaints by staff or customers and that we're welcome back ANYTIME! Also, that we were a great group and very generous with the staff.

I'm sure others will elaborate more as I just can't keep my eyes open anymore!

Sigh, I was on the list and I meant to be there but I ended up floating around on Lake Mead, instead. I wish I had been able to make it, I'm sure it was good times.

I took down a monster pot with 8[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] in a seven way pot that was capped pre-flop.

Somehow, I ended up +54BB, even though I burned a lot of chips in Razz and Omaha 8OB.

Good times.

Re: Super Magoo jamboree report!

I just got home. The game upstairs lasted until 3:30am- long after the downstairs games ended. There were just seven of us left at the end playing some wild stuff including triple flop hold 'em and double flop Omaha high.

I crushed the table when we were playing Crazy Fox (four card version of Crazy Pineapple) and that led me to a nearly 70 big bet win for the night.

However, I may have had the donkest moment of the night. After playing a round of Omaha 8 or better, the game was changed to Omaha high double flop. Of course, I forgot we switched to a high only game, called a raise with a cheasy AhTs6c2c and then jammed it up when one flop gave me the "nut Low" and the other gave me middle and bottom pair with the 6 and 2. It was only after the turn betting that I realized what I had done and had to confirm with the table that I had just put in way to many bets with two-pair on one board and nothing on the other. My two-pair was no good on the river and I lost about 7 bets that should still be mine.

We played 2-4 upstairs with the exception of one pot-limit (cap $50 loss per hand) Omaha round. We played double flop hold 'em, triple flop hold 'em, double flop Omaha high, Omaha high, Omaha 8 or better, razz, Stud 8 or better, Stud high, 5 card draw, 2-7 triple draw lowball, crazy pineapple, and crazy fox. I may even be forgetting a game or two.

Re: Super Magoo jamboree report!

I'll keep this short since this TV internet thing is a pain in the ass (plus I want to see if it will get porn).

My feet are going to fall off. I walked from Treasure Island to Bellagio, back to TI, then back to Bellagio, then down to the MGM. And after the magoo action, walked from MGM back to TI.

At our table, we played Hold'em, Omaha 8, Razz, Stud, Stud 8, 2-7 triple draw, double flop hold'em, crazy pineapple, and crazy fox. Maybe some others too. I don't think I laughed so much since that one time I tried a hallucinogenic. About a half dozen White Russians helped out here.

I managed to break even to the penny, after tipping The Dude a dollar for putting a bad beat on me in 2-7 TD. I was dealt an 87643, and stood pat on all thre draws. I don't recall exactly what he drew on each round, but it was something like 3 then 2 then 1, to make a 7 high. In two earlier hands, I managed to forget the ace was high, and stood pat with A86xx, thinking I had 8 high. In the first Dominic paired on the last draw, so I won the hand anyway. Later I got beat by an 8 high, thinking I also had an 8 high, which of course I did not because of the ace.

So much for keepin it short, I'm sure we will remember a lot more good hands here. I got some cell phone pictures from our table, including Matt Flynn's 8 or 10 rack buy-in, and The Dude flipping out, which he did every time a card was dealt.

Anyway like I said I cashed out exactly what I bought in, after all tips, which could easily have been over $100. The dealers were great and had a lot of patience with us (Justin A's random tipping before, during, and after hands didn't hurt here).

It's 5 AM here, so I don't think I will make tomorrow's 2-7 TD game at Wynn's, at the ungodly hour of 10 AM, but I will head over there and try to catch the aftermath.

yeah to the 2-7 stuff

the other table was fun. DeathDonkey, bisonbison, Nolanfan, someone?, TheMetetron, Evan, Nate tha Great, BWebb, me and Gary (2+2 handle escapes me) played a round of PORSE lasting 150 minutes. Then was the official craps hour as soon as GoT showed up. Upon completion we searched for strip clubs that would let Evan in. Finally, the same one Jason_T has made famous was revisited and Evan succeeded in the same place that Jason did. I'll leave those details to the people involved. Drinking and such was +EV

Some nice words from "the chick" at the table:

A definite party foul with The Dude dumping the drink on the felt, and props to goofball who somehow always managed to "get there" by the river on the second flop of double flop hold 'em....and to the guy two to my left who kept making 3 pair in Razz and raising the river...bless your heart.

A big thanks to:

[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] The MGM for not kicking us out within the first hour and the dealers for not telling us all to shut the F&*^k up!
[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] to everyone who bet, called, and raised "for value"
[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] big Al Capone for letting a girl play

Re: Super Magoo jamboree report!

I concur with my gal, Sticky Wicket.

I've never had so much fun at a poker table in my life. It's FUN to be a donkey! Who knew playing so horribly could bring so much joy to one's life?

My favorite moments included not only the live straddles, but the FOUR live straddles on a few hands - so we were capped before anybody had gotten any cards! Now that's poker.

Tim was right - he won some donkey hands - but he must've been playing too tight because he didn't win OR lose!

I'm amazed I didn't lose more than the one rack I did. I think Goofball has that rack, as he was the primo donkey at our table - rivering almost everyone on every damn hand we played. Bastard. I think he cashed out like 10 racks of blue.

The best was when we were playing games like razz or triple draw, and someone in the hand doesn't realize it's a LOW game until they flip up their sets and 2 pairs! That's comedy.

Seriously, I had a blast - it was great meeting everyone and we by BY FAR had the best table going!

I forgot to mention one game I think I invented...although one 2+2er said it was similar to a home game he called "Screw Your Neighbor:"

You play Hold'em exactly the same except for one thing: after the first round of betting pre-flop, you MUST give one of your hole cards to the player on your left. The hand continues from there! I see this as becoming the next big poker rage! Ed Miller can write about strategy! Sklanksky can write about the math behind it! Woo hoo!

Okay, maybe not, but it was a fun game to play last night.

Re: Super Magoo jamboree report!

Now that I'm not drunk...

That was definietly the most fun I've had at a poker table in a while (easy to say I know when you're "outplaying" the crap out of everyone ). Somehow, I managed to win 5 racks of blue (heh, probably my biggest winning session in terms of BBs) despite first damn hand of double flop holdem on the first table.

I finanlly fulfilled my lifelong dreams of drawing 5 in 2-7 triple draw and scooping a pot in double flop holdem. Also The Dude and I had some awesome fat tire drinking contests. The guy two to my right (sorry can't remember your name) provided us the best kill button ever, I'll let others elaborate.

I don't remember if i won a single hand in Razz (shouldn't be complaining though should I :-) ) I think i managed to lost some O8 pots to JustinA who didn't seem to ever look at his cards, and StickyWicket the only Omaha8 pro in vegas who isn't an 80 year old man. I think I'm sticking with 'I convinced dominic to change his avatar by mentioning how it made me want to cry last night.'

Re: Super Magoo jamboree report!

I have to compliment StickyWicket on her excellent poker trash talking ability, and for actually making one of the younger guys at the table blush.

Dbowling provided the kill button, which I assume was handed to him by some scrubby looking guy on the strip.

I don't see how I was playing too tight. I was seeing the flop with any two suited for 5 bets, while SinCityGuy insisted on 7 gappers or less. We also found a way around the 5 bet cap. One hand of holdem featured a straddle and 4 blind raises, making it 6 bets to see the flop. I was the 6 bettor, and was dealt 45o. Bells were going off in my head as the flop came down 235. A six on the turn gave me a straight, and we capped the betting again. There were two spades on the boad, and both goofball and I started thinking about what card we wanted to see fall on the turn. We both simultaneously yell "King of Hearts!", and high five across the table. The river card is K[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img], and now we have a double high five. He three bets me, and I value call my second nuts, only to be shown the stone nuts (47o) by goofball.

Thanks for the ride and great playing everyone.

Thanks AL for getting this going, Gary Boyd manager @MGM welcomed us back for this, ANYTIME!

Well my worst beat was against ABE, Full house vs full house in 7cs high only.
ABE had my number all night. The prep-H stings!

Dynasty got me FB vs FB also, in Crazy Fox, great game, definitely needs to replace Hold'em.

Photoc never played 5 card draw before, I stood pat and he called me down with 2P, donation appreciated. Passed the prep-H!

I left down $9, considering they raked us at strict 10% $4max, I'll call it a win.

WHO got kicked in the nuts?

That was a different hand.

First flop was T 9 8
Second flop was K K J

I had KJ in the SB and bet and everyone folded. Bastards. I was too annoyed to stack a pot at that point.

All I have to say is this:

1) Chip castle with a [censored] moat.
2) Jager & Tequila rounds
3) Face up 33 taking down a massive pot in double flop hold'em. I rule.
4) Finishing down 3 racks, another 3 bills at craps, and at least another 2 at the strip club (I'm not as good as Evan & jason t, though). Fun night, too tired for more details.

MGM was awesome.

I was down about a rack and a half when justin A introduced himself to me. He sat down and helped me play a hand of pineapple. Now im only down less than a rack and justin buys in on his own. Later im back up to my buy in and sticky wicket complains about how i wasnt winning until justin sat down. Not to worry, it didnt last long. Justin bad beats me in razz when my hand goes A54 2 2 2 K i think we went 5 bets on 4th street when someone mentioned that justin should go all in, i agreed, but justin didnt. He waited until i paired to get all his money in. Later in crazy fox(or pineapple, or dbl flop) i pick up a monster draw (gutshot + flush draw) action was heavy and the flush draw gets there. I c/r goofball on the river and he 3bets, woohoo. Im up against the nuts.

Things i learned:
Capping(6bets) preflop before the cards are dealt = awesome.
TT is the guy in his avatar (i think)
Dynasty is older than i thought
Ed Miller is younger than i thought
Dude was younger than i thought
Nate tha Great was younger than i thought
Evan was taller than i expected
Any 7stud variation sucks (because i suck at them)
Pineapple is the best (though i already knew this)
Crazy fox and double flop holdem should be spread in every cardroom

Freakin' AWESOME. Thanks to all for the collection we took for the floorguys, I know they appreciated it. Thanks to all for the ridiculous amounts of tips the dealers made, I know they appreciate it! Thanks to all for showing up and making 2+2 look really good in the eyes of the vegas poker world!

The dealers did a wonderful job, especially with some of the weird games we wanted to play. There were a few games played that probably don't even EXIST except in the imagination of the imaginer, but the dealers still managed to handle them all without a hitch!

I'll be happy to set these things up again in the future, btw. For the amount of fun I had, it was well worth the effort.

For that matter I do want to have the "Super-Genius Invitational: Live in Las Vegas" sometime in the not too distant future! It will be mixed games of course, magooey and 2+2ey! I should note that if you were at the super-magoo jambouree at the MGM you are automatically invited!

Quick additions before I write a real report from the MGM game only:

-I can't remember who was in the 4 seat either for some reason.
-Poor Nolanfan never winning a hand for like an hour and then getting sweated by Joe Tall during a stud game and winning like 4 in a row. Joe Tall is to be feared at stud.
-Evan and I stacking the biggest pot I've ever seen (until the following morning playing 4/8 with GoT et. al.) when we counterfeit Nolanfan's low and end up chopping instead of getting quartered.
-Jager is goooood. Tequila is dangerous.
-The Dude stumbling by, checking out someone's hand, and announcing to the dealer "10 bucks a deuce on the flop!" Flop comes 292, The Dude throws a 20 dollar bill at the surprised and confused dealer and stumbles away laughing.
