$100 pants club

Well, I'm gonna join this today when I buy the New Lightweight Wool Trousers from Banana Republic for a wedding.

Never spent more than $52 on a pair of pants before. I dress like a hobo, essentially.

Who else is in the club? Everyone?

Note: Suit pants don't count.

I have a couple of dress slacks that I have paid around that for. This reasearch has concluded that they wear no better than some $50 stuff from The Jones Store or Dillards.

Yeah, I'm wearing a threadbare pair of cords from Old Navy that I got for like $15 right now.

I hate spending money on clothes.

I almost joined the $200 Jeans Club a couple of weeks ago, but I resisted.

I have a couple pairs of dress pants that went for about $70 and one pair of jeans that was around $70.

I am serious. The Jones Store here is always having sales. Especially if you want wool slack in summer. I can usually get Claiborne or Kenneth Cole slacks for about half the origional price. One thing about slacks is the style does not really change from year to year.

I don't think I have ever tried a pair of jeans on that were over $100. What is the real difference (besides $30) between some $70 Ralph Lauren or Kenneth Cole jeans and the ones your wear?

No, because he is either getting ripped off for never buying anything on sale or he is too into himself to buy anything but the hippest newest styles. Maybe I'm out of line and he is just a member of Rocks and Rings. .

I pay about $75 for my jeans these days, mostly because of my above average height. I've bought some wool trousers from Men's Wearhouse for about $90 a pair, but usually I buy cheaper Khaki pants (for work) for around $40 a pair.

If you wear a pair of Anchor Blue jeans or some [censored] from JC Penney that's $30 and then you wear a pair of Seven or Deisel jeans for a day and you'll notice a difference.

Finally, a club I can belong to!

I paid $125 recently for a pair of Zegna jeans which, it so happens, is just about the most comfortable article of clothing I've ever owned.

Don't do it. You can find something really nice for $75 or less. If we start buying $100 pants soon you wont be able to find a pair for less. It's a slippery slope. Take a stand.

If I drive my $30K car and then go drive a $100K car, I'm sure I'd notice a difference. That doesn't make me any less of an idiot for driving a $100K car.

The biggest problem with buying expensive pants is that once you realize how comfortable the material is you can't buy regularly priced pants again.

"What is idiotic about buying nice things that you can afford?"

Exactly. No matter what you splurge on, someone will come along and say you shouldn't waste your money on that. But everyone splurges on something. I, for example, don't have much interest in travelling, though wanderlust is very common. If somebody handed me money and gave me the option to travel or buy clothes it would be close, or at least closer than the decision for everyone else, and I don't understand why people would judge me for that. Do you all just horde your money and line your coffins with it?

Why? I hate when people judge other based on how they dress or look? Maybe he likes to wear nice clothes, so what? Maybe hes young and wears stuff like that to bang hot chicks. I do.

Should we assume some one is poor with little self worth becuase they wear cheap shirts?

Again, there is nothing idiotic about doing this if you can afford it. If I had millions and millions of dollars, I would much sooner buy an M5 than a Corolla, and I don't think anyone would be able to fault me for that.

On the other hand, if I were making $40,000 a year and had kids to feed, it would be extremely irresponsible, and in fact idiotic, to do the same.
