Mid-Tourney Poll
$22 SNG on Party. Blinds are 50/100 (blinds increase in 4 hands), 6 handed.
SB: 700 (after posting 50) BB: 1300 (after posting 100) UTG: 1050 Hero: 1100 M/LP: 2300 Button: 1400 All players have been tight in general, with the exception of the button who limps into a lot of hands. Dealt to Hero: AJo UTG folds. Decision? |
Re: Mid-Tourney Poll
When in doubt...poooosh!
|
Re: Mid-Tourney Poll
Raise 3xBB. The players at the 22s play way too tight mid-game.
|
Re: Mid-Tourney Poll
Eh, it's so close. I dunno. I think I fold here as long as the blinds won't raise before I hit the blinds. If the blinds were going up in the next 1-2 hands, I push.
I dunno. |
Re: Mid-Tourney Poll
After making the 3x raise, you're left with t700. If reraised allin, do you call? (note: losing to the SB would leave you with t350)

Re: Mid-Tourney Poll
I might push if it's going to 100/200 before my BB. Otherwise, at 11xBB in the 22s and 33s, I like to just raise 3xBB or 3.25xBB. People will mostly still fold, and I've found that it's really bad for my FE when I really need it on level 5 and higher if I've been pushing from UTG+1 and such since level 4. You can evaluate a push if you think it's either a donk or someone capable of the PVS against a raise instead of a limp (Gigabet style). Mostly if people are being typically too tight, though, I'd fold a raise and assume I'm folding the best hand only a small percentage of the time.

Re: Mid-Tourney Poll
I think this is an easy push, especially if the players are as tight as you say. A tight player on the big blind in this situation might think about folding a hand as good as A Q if the hero pushes. That's a huge victory. Even if we don't get a hand like that to fold, we'd like the big blind to fold hands such as K Q and lower pocket pairs. The BB may not do this if he/she only has to call $200 more.
So then the choice is between pushing and folding. You need to apply pressure and take control of your own game when the blinds get to this level, especially at a tight table. You have a very good hand here and your position will make it seem even stronger to your opponents. Also, if you don't take a stand now and the blinds go through you, you'll be down to $990 with the blinds raising soon. you might be in the same position the next round having to move with K 10. Easy push. Agree, disagree?? |
Re: Mid-Tourney Poll
wouldn't that leave you with t800??
|
Re: Mid-Tourney Poll
this one is pretty close, i might actually fold to conserve my image for later on.
|
Re: Mid-Tourney Poll
Pushing, without a doubt.
|
Re: Mid-Tourney Poll
push- and its not even close, do you see why??
|
Re: Mid-Tourney Poll
no, because the SB started the hand with 750, and you start with 1100. Losing to him leaves you t350.

Easy push. Agree, disagree?? [/ QUOTE ] I don't consider this an easy push at all, and the math agrees. It's certainly pushable (ICM neutral), but I won't do it here because I don't need the pot. I voted fold, but I can see the value of raising here. |
Re: Mid-Tourney Poll
I voted fold. The real game is about to begin in 3 hands. Everyone is going to be afraid of busting. You'll take the blinds during level 3, worst case you'll be at 950. This will essentially be 6 handed bubble play. Maintain some FE and get stay healthy for level 5.
After reading all the responses, I really think that those who wrote "easy push" are way off. Picking up t150 is nice, but this is a high risk, relatively low reward proposition. You will take the blinds on level 4, after that, go into bubble mode. Pushing here risks two things: 1) the obvious - busting and 2) (also important) hurts your table image for level 5. Whether you pick up this pot or not, all but the big stack will be in relatively the same position going into level 5 anyway. When you push in level 5, the extra t150 isn't going to change one of the other 4 players' decision from a call to a fold. |
Re: Mid-Tourney Poll
I think you guys have a great point with the table image argument. I guess I wasn't thinking about that as much as I should have. Also, I agree that the reward is really not that large. It's a much closer decision between raising and folding than I first thought. Thanks for all the input.
