\"I won\'t look at my cards...I\'ll just look at you.\"
To the amusement of many, a "Unabomber" look-a-like (yes, gray hooded sweatshirt, shades, childish antics - the WHOLE deal) actually said "I won't look at my cards...I'll just look at you" a few times over the course of a maybe 3 hours last night.....in a $2/$4 game. LMFAO. Dealing can really be entertaining sometimes.

Re: \"I won\'t look at my cards...I\'ll just look at you.\"
I'll take this opportunity to semi-hijack your thread and tell one of my favorite stories ever...
Last November I played at the World Poker Finals main event at Foxwoods. As I was surveying the room from my seat, I noticed Phil Laak sitting at a table across from mine. This was my first time playing in a 10K buy-in, so I was still pretty starstruck from seeing all of these pros. But then I realized something. Phil Laak was not, in fact, Phil Laak. Just an imposter. He had the same gray sweatshirt, hood pulled low, dark sunglasses... but indeed, this was not Phil Laak. And how did I figure this out? Because at the same table, two seats to the imposter's right, was the real Phil Laak, donned in gray sweatshirt, hood pulled low, and dark sunglasses. I felt so embarassed for this kid that all I could do was cringe. I mean, you emulate the guys that you see on TV as some sort of perceived intimidation factor, I guess. But then to look to your right and see the guy you're imitating... It must have been uncomfortable for both of them... It was awkward enough for me... |

It was good chatting with you, Juanez, the last time I was there. Though I'm traveling out of town until August, you're REALLY making me miss the profitability of 2/4 at the Gilpin!

I seem to remember me calling time in Vegas after I 3-bet or 4-bet or something preflop and had to call 1 bet more for the cap. It was awesome.

Re: \"I won\'t look at my cards...I\'ll just look at you.\"
I may have told this story before, but I'll tell it again just in case...
This guy who called for "time" while UTG in 2-4 obviously had a lot of REALLY important decisions to make in the (TWO-FOUR) game. So a few hands after the "time" incident... There's a raise UTG and a reraise 2nd UTG. Time boy INSTA calls. Three take the flop, which is queen high rainbow rags (no hearts). Bet, raise, time boy calls, reraise, reraise, calls again. Turn rag, bet, raise, time boy calls again. River rag. Bet, call, time boy calls. Well it wasn't too surprising to see the first two dudes show down AA and KK, but when time boy shows down Qh3h I nearly spit milk out of my nose trying not to laugh. If you'll insta-call three bets cold with Q3s, what hands are such a close decision that you call for time when it's only one bet to you? al |

Weren't you all indignant in some other thread about how important tipping the dealer is? I would never want to tip a dealer who is badmouthing me behind my back once his or her shift is over. Thanks to you, this is the impression I now have of dealers. |

phil laak sat at my 40-80 game at commerce the other day.
sadly as it was i was kinda star struck, until he started preteding like he didn't know how to play. he was saying things like "so it's 40 or 80 to raise?" and "do i put my blind in now" when he was UTG+1 i was thinking of saying "how's tilly" but i most likely would have to be really drunk to get it out. |

I enjoy stories about 2-4 WPT wannabes as much as the next guy, but a dealer repeatedly telling these stories in a public forum seems really unprofessional to me. |

You're right, the point I really just wanted to make was that it is a little unbecoming for a dealer to mock clients in a public forum (I haven't seen any threads started by this screenname for any other reason than to mock a player). Sorry for the drama of it all if that was the issue here. About my "impression" of dealers... I was definitely being facetious to make a point. This point I was trying to make is that if a dealer is so indignant about people tipping after taking down a pot and belittling on this forum those who don't tip (see his posts in threads on the subject of tipping)- well, it's a little ironic and hypocritical. Imagine if one of these ridiculed people stumbled upon this forum and these threads. How do you think they would react? How would YOU react?? I'm sure we've all done something or other in a B&M that a dealer might want to repeat to his friends... but for the dealer to go on a website with thousands of viewers who can read not only about the incident but about how the player looked, the limit being played and the cardroom's name and location... Is this not crossing a line at some point? Maybe I'm the only one bothered by these types of posts. Anyways, all this is just my opinion, if you think I'm an idiot so be it. Again, since this a website you are free to choose to write anything you want without repercussion, just like our dealer friend at the top of this thread. |

It's kind of like a pro athlete who tells the media "All our team's fans are a bunch of low-class idiots. It's hard not to laugh at them when we're out on the field."
I believe there's a certain amount of respect due the people who pay your bills, and it's not right to berate a paying customer in a public forum like this for the sake of a few laughs at 2+2. |

Thanks to you, this is the impression I now have of dealers. [/ QUOTE ] Let me start off by saying that you are 100% correct in what you said. However, this is 1 dealer we are talking about here... It's unfair to create anymore posts or anymore replies geared towards dealers... Some fan in Detroit throws a beer at Ron Artest...so automatically all fans are animals? We should talk about "fans" and not "this fan"? I'm not saying you are one of these players, but I know a few that will refuse to tip a dealer in 1 casino just because of a negative incident they remember with another dealer in a different casino, or they remember some other insignificant event...such as reading what a dealer thinks about the players on the 2+2 poker forum! Its a shame you now feel this way about all dealers... I guess now when I receive poor service in a restaurant, I should feel that all servers everywhere are terrible... Next time I'm in a slow line at the grocery store, I should feel that all cashiers are lousy... Hopefully I got my point across... |
Re: \"I won\'t look at my cards...I\'ll just look at you.\"
Why do you come on this forum time and again just to ridicule and belittle players you deal to?
I only come to this forum to ridicule the giant douches that I deal to - a very small percentage of players that I deal to. The majority of players are decent people or at least neutral. There are some that are just plain jerks. Then there are the giant douches...those that make complete fools of themselves while thinking they are the coolest person in the room and IMHO deserve public ridicule. Hopefully, WPT wanna-be's will read this thread say to themselves "Hmmm, most folks think that poser was a giant douche. Maybe I'll leave the sweatshirt home this time and not talk so much stupid sheeot at the table. It doesn't seem to have the same effect that it does for the REAL Unabomber on ESPN." Thanks to you, this is the impression I now have of dealers. Wow - I have THAT much of an impression on you? I didn't realize I was that influential in your life. Am I posting these stories as a public service? No. I just figure that other players/dealers like hearing funny stories now and then. I sure do and I wish there were more of them. Lighten up man, and expect more stories in the future. Oh yeah, nice job trying to turn this into another "Here’s why I don’t tip dealers" thread. Like we need another one of those. And FYI, the flagrant poser who was the subject of this little anecdote never won a single pot when I was in the box. I have no clue if he was a good/bad tipper. |

I'm of the opposite point of view. I want you dealers to tell your stories from your point of view. Gives me as a player a different perspective and besides I just like to hear stuff about poker. So keep em coming.

Re: \"I won\'t look at my cards...I\'ll just look at you.\"
People need to lighten up around here. Juanez's stories are funny and I hope that they keep coming. Also, it gives us as players a different perspective and can help us not to piss dealers (and other players) off (it seems like most here don't care about that, but that's the typical poker player for you).
I don't play live alot, so the B&M stories are both informative and, often, hilarious. And all this crap about professionalism is exactly that......crap. It's an anonymous forum for God's sake! Unless you're the Unabomber moron, in which case, you deserve to be publicly mocked for being a douche. If you don't like the thought that you are being mocked even though you don't act like a total jerkoff, then you are simply paranoid. There's a lot more important things to worry about folks. Please keep the stories coming. |
