WSOP 2nd chance tournaments

Has anyone played in these yet? How does it work, can you only play it once per event you're registered for?

Re: WSOP 2nd chance tournaments

225 buy in. T1000 to start. 25-25 blinds, second level 25-50. Blinds double from there on. 20 minute round. Crap shoot begins at 1-200 level, slows down until the 3-600 leel speeds up until clos to the money. Slows down until in the money (they pay a little less than 10%). The one that I played paid 16k for first. 18th paid $489 . Lasted from 11 pm to 5 a.m. next morning. I was there from start to finish.

Re: WSOP 2nd chance tournaments

If I only play 1 WSOP event, how many times can I play the 2nd chance? I plan on playing event 22 (1500 NL hold'em), and some satellites. So does that mean I could only play this 2nd chance once?

Vince - how many people played in the one you were in?

You can play as many as you want. However, unless you're a huge fan of 11pm tournies with 20 minute rounds, why not play the Bellagio $540 at 2pm or the Palms $230 at 7pm? I think I'm going to check the Palms tournament out tonight and will post structure information on it when I find out about it.

Re: WSOP 2nd chance tournaments

Not to hi-jack the thread here, but I HIGHLY recommend the Palms' PM tournies. Very well organized, good level of competition, and very solid blind structures. It was not a crapshoot, but a real tournament. Only complaint I had was that I finished 20th, when payouts began at 18 when my A, Q ran into the dreaded 7, 8 suited (runner, runner made a straight and ended my nice run). Scott Fishman played in the tourney that night as well and finished in the late 30s or early 40s, I believe. By the time I went out, I had played almost 5 1/2 hours, with a total of 124 entries in the tourney. Great time! I'd play it again RIGHT NOW.
Good Luck,
Les

The Palms is a single rebuy tourney? Can you get the rebuy at anytime?

there were 250 in the one I played in. Three hundred the next night.

You can play as many as you like.

Vince,
must have been friday night/ saturday morning. I played in that one and finished 17th or 18th. Which table were you at from the last two?

Lloyd 06-06-2005 08:33 PM

Re: WSOP 2nd chance tournaments

I played in 3 of them and definitely did not like the structure. There were 303 entrants and they paid 18. We were down to the final 36. The average stack was 8400, the median stack just over 6000, and the blinds at 400/800 with a 100 ante. So pretty much everyone was shortstacked.

I had over 10,000 and was in the top 12 or so and lost 3/4 of my stack when a shortstack (who actually was at the median) pushed with 33 and beat my AA by hitting the case 3 (one was already dead).

It really is a horrible structure. They either need to increase the time of the levels or at least pay more tables. It's a crapshoot well before it even gets to the bubble.

I'm not sure what number it was. I was in a yellow short sleeve shirt. I was at the second table. The one furthest from the satellite area. You?

My buddy Smoothcall and I discussed the structure a bit. I thought that it became a crapshoot rather early. He liked the ante at the 100-200 level and the fact that it went to 150-300 instead of 2-400. He is probably right that the ante cut down the crapsoot a bit but still I believe that it became a crapshoot too early.

Re: WSOP 2nd chance tournaments

I was chip leader by a decent margin when we hit the money with ~12x. Next closest had 9x.
First hand, I pushed A2 in the CO...blinds folded.
Second hand, I pushed AQs...blinds folded.
Next hand, I push 99. SS w/ ~3x instacalls, and the only other semi-big stack w/ 9x calls from the SB.
BB folds K7s face up.
I am up against KK from the shorty and AKo from the SB.

Ace hits the flop and I'm crippled. I go out the next hand when i push KQ and am called in two spots.
K on the flop, and it gets checked all the way down w/out an ace or any bad flush or st8's out and I think that I've tripled up, but a guy in MP shows AA and i finish 17th. yuck.

me too. What seat? did you bust me w/ AA? I had a dodgers hat on.

Re: WSOP 2nd chance tournaments

Yes! I pushed with A,A. I thought that limping would look too suspicious plus there was a nutcase at the other end of the table with a lot of chips that had a tendency to call with a lot of hands. I didn't think anyone would put me on A,A and might just call me. Smoothcall my buddy thought that my push in was dumb. He's probably right but I don't play so good sometimes. You were, in my opinion, a very nice young man! I enjoyed playing with you and did not enjoy busting you but then again.... can't say that I wish it turned out differently! Maybe, if there is a next time, we will get heads up and have some fun! Do you live in Vegas?

Oops I just read your previous reply on how you went out. It doesn't sound like the hand I remeber. I guessd it was a different hand. I busted a guy that had 9,9 with A,A but it doesn't sound like the one you described. sorry. Oh well maybe next time I'll get it right.

I was in the 4 seat, and you were in the 8 or 9 seat, IIRC. I don't live in Vegas. Please tell my you busted the loud, obnoxious douchebag wearing the Tampa Bay Devilrays hat.

Re: WSOP 2nd chance tournaments

Another question, does anyone know the blind strucutre/starting chips for the $165 satellites? I think I'm set on going to vegas, the week of June 27 - July 1, staying at the Gold Coast Hotel & Casino (any comments on that hotel?) My plan is to play some satellites to try to qualify for the $2000 buy in event on Tuesday, and if I can't qualify for that, then I'll just play the $225 at the Palms

scottjf8 06-07-2005 02:04 PM

Re: WSOP 2nd chance tournaments

I played the $65 satellite and it was 1000 in chips and 25/25 blinds, 15 min levels.. I belive the $165 or $175 one you start with 2000, same levels...

mlagoo 06-07-2005 02:06 PM

Re: WSOP 2nd chance tournaments

Geez, 15 minutes levels is so fast live... that just seems crazy to me. It's like playing a freaking speed tourney.

Actually, speaking of which, is the "stall" tactic employed as much live as it is over the internet? I have a feeling it would be more difficult, as there would be a lot more pissed off people sort of "in your face."

James Lang 06-07-2005 02:10 PM

Re: WSOP 2nd chance tournaments

Thanks for the info scott, are they running alot of satellites? That structure sounds 10x better than the WSOP circuit $65 satellites which were 300 starting chips, 5/15, 10/25, 25/50 structure.

mlagoo,
When I played the satellites at the WSOP circuit, there really wasn't any stalling. Sometimes someone would ask how much time was left in the level, but I didn't see any deliberate stalling

It's $175 and you start with 1000 chips and the levels increase every 15 minutes. Winner gets 3-500 chips and $120. Consider making deals if you get down 3 way. Essential if 2 way unless you've got a massive stack. The blinds increase rapidly and they become a bit of a crapshoot.

Yeah pretty much ran all the time during event #3 (and #2 once tables freed up) - they ran $65 ones, $175 ones, and $500 ones, plus $50 satellite to the supersatellite for the Main Event.. plus lots of cash games....

If your going out there, I'd reccomend staying at the Rio, makes life so much easier

It's an extra $170 for me to stay at the Rio, and the Gold Coast is only .4 miles down the block from the Rio and accross the street from the palms. I'm sure I'm underestimating a .4 mile walk. Is this area safe in general? I've never been to vegas

Re: WSOP 2nd chance tournaments

Yes, yes, I believe that I did. He went out third if it is the same guy. I offered to chop three ways with him and another fellow but he was adamant that he was going to destroy everyone and didn't want to chop. There was also a young kid that was pretty loud and had a hat but I wouldn't call him obnoxious. I busted him also so either way I think I got your man.

it will probably be closer from the Gold Coast to the entrance of the Rio than from the entrance of the Rio to where they are having the WSOP.

third place was a guy named andy in a raiders hat. He's the one that had AK on my 99 hand. He was to your left in the 10 seat at the 2nd to last table. He was pretty terrible. He limped w/ KTo on the bubble w/ 7xBB UTG. Need i say more?

Vincent Lepore 06-07-2005 02:45 PM

Re: WSOP 2nd chance tournaments

Yes, that was him. He was not very friendly when we got to 3 players and was indeed a pretty bad player. He made some very bad all-in calls with very weak hands. He whined about his poor luck too. But thinking about it I can't say that he was obnoxious. I was wrong about that.

Do you guys think the $2000 will sell out? As of now, I plan on arriving on 6/27 Monday around noon, and I will try to play some satellites as soon as I get there. Is that cutting it too close?
