86\'d players

I was on the floor today when this young couple came up and asked to be put on the 4-8 list. I remember them both from yesterday. He played and she asked if she could sit behind and watch. I said yes. So back to the story. They both asked to be put on the list today. I called him to his seat and he took it. A few minutes later she was called and went to get chips. About 15 minutes later security came to me and I was told she tried to buy chips with a counterfiet $50 bill. She of course said she got it from her husband and he said he got it at the cage. This to me is very believable since I know he played the night before. Both were taken to security for statements and I went along to make sure everything was ok. In the process of the statements it was discovered he's 23 and she's.. 20! She never actually made it to the table to play so she was not arrested but he was perm 86'd for contributing and she was permed for underage in a casino. It was believable that he received the $50 from the cage so he was given a real $50 bill on the way out the door. If she sat at the table and played 1 hand she would be under arrest for underage gaming. The moral of the story?

Actually, she's a law student. She was more concerned if she was charged it would show up on her record and harm her in the future. About as far from red-neck as you can get. Very nieive is more like it. Security didn't even check her I.D. until she wrote down her age as 20 on the statement form.

If security did not check her for an ID, and she was never told, could she not just claim ignorance and say that she believed it was an 18+ casino?

Would you seriously arrest her?

[/ QUOTE ] Mississippi gaming law states that anyone under the age of 21 caught gaming, MUST be arrested. No questions asked. If your under 21 and don't have I.D. your just asked to leave. (They can't prove your under 21) If she made it to the table and placed a bet before they found out she was under 21 it would be out of my hands. It's also clearly marked that you must be 21 when you walk in. [ QUOTE ]
Would you seriously arrest her?

[/ QUOTE ] Not up to me. I'm not security or gaming. On a personal note I feel like gaming is for those 21 and over. It makes me sick to even see people bring kids to the buffet. A casino is adult entertainment and no place for kids. I love the game of poker and its great that T.V. has brought a whole new generation into the game. For those that are under 21? If you can find a legal place to play thats great but most casinos are 21 and over and I strongly support it staying that way. The vast majority of under 21 year olds don't have earning potential to sustain any kind of loss. This can lead to big problems down the road, credit for example. The legal age was set for a reason.

Play at a less strict casino if you are underage? Do you actually arrest people for that there? It seems there are discussions about this all the time on the forums here and the worst result (as long as no fake IDs are involved) is getting booted from the casino. Of course you could have her arrested but would you really have done that?

Learn how to spot counterfeit bills. Large-faced hundreds are unlikely to be counterfeit. If it's a new bill, hold it to the light...look for Mr. Franklin's reflection in the upper right and a strip that says "USA 100 USA 100" on the left. Make sure the serial numbers match. If all these are in place, you don't have a counterfeit bill.

Jeffage, thats hardly foolproof. There are fakes that can pass even that ammount of scrutiny. Although it will weed out the majority of them. However doing this when cashing out a couple dimes is quite impractical.

The reason why most underage people are booted is because they're not dumb enough to show an I.D. showing their underage. If they did they would go to jail. If the question is "Would I turn in someone I knew to be underage?", the answer is undoubtably yes.

I'm going to go out on a limb and assume that it was convenient for casinos in many states to be 21+ in order to make it easier to get a liquor license. There's your reason. Maybe just my take though, but it is quite a coincidence.

It always saddens me to hear how many people are so dead-set against allowing people under 21 to play, and in essence implying that they aren't capable of understanding the inherent risk that any form of gambling takes. 18-year-olds are old enough to sign up to fight in the military, and that carries, as we know, the greatest risk of all. Yes, you are correct sir, many 18-year-olds don't have the earning power to sustain high losses. Then again, so do a lot of the 30-year-old construction workers who take their Friday pay to the casino and throw away more than they can afford, too. Therefore, I suggest a system of only allowing people who can prove that they can afford a loss of $X, with X being a percentage of their (verified) income, to play at all. This will solve your moral dilemma of whether or not to allow someone who is allowed to drive a car, fight a war, and elect the most powerful elected official in the world, the right to spend their earned money however the hell they please.

I hope that I, as a poker player who started when I was 17 years old and turn 21 this upcoming Tuesday, do not sicken you as much as people who bring children to a buffet.

Uneducated gambling is the problem, not 18+ gambling.

I'm not sure what the law is elsewhere. But here in CO, any casino employee is obligated to card anyone suspected of being underage or looking underage. Supervisors, dealers, wait staff, cage, etc. Everyone. It was repeatedly pounded into our heads at orientation.

I know two dealers who have been canned for underage players being carded at their tables by CO Div. of Gaming. Therefore, I say "Stay the hell out until you are 21!"

Re: 86\'d players

I agree with many of your points but the fact remains, the legal age to gamble in the state of Mississippi is 21. There are always exceptions to the rule. I know 12 year olds that are mature enough to drive and 30 year olds that still shouldn't be driving. I can't tell you how many 40 year olds that can't handle a night in a casino. Maturity level and money management are amoung the things required. A casino is adult entertainment and should remain that way. This isn't to say there aren't people out there that are 16 that could do just fine at a poker table or handle the casino just fine. The law says 21..

where in the his post does he mention that he’s a dealer (and where did I get high and mighty)...i guess i should have assumed. He actually wont get in trouble for dealing to an underage player, its security's responsibility in every casino i have ever been in. (oh yes if he knew and admitted to know hed get in trouble, but hed also be retarded)

and the gaming commission line... sarcasm. but since hes a dealer i guess he has the right to pass judgment on all your right.

Still doesn’t clear up his judging of parents brining there kids to buffets comment, oh yea hes a dealer right to pass judgment on all touché.

he's allowed to have an opinion on something without it being 'passing judgement'.

chip777 is a regular poster in this forum and many of us know that he is floor/dealer at the Horsehose Tunica.

I suspect there are MANY underage players making it inside the Tunica casinos. It amazes me how young some of the players look who walk right past the snoozing sec-guard at the door without getting carded (this is for all Tunica casinos I've been too...not just Horseshoe).

I doubt this is 100% true.
not sure specifically whether it is correct in Mississippi or not. but juanez has already mentioned in this thread that he knows 2 dealers who have been fired because gaming-commission happened to be there when they dealt to underage players.

FWIW - I also have some issues with bringing little kids into casinos.
But when I went out to Vegas I saw it all the time...particularly at the Treasure Island where I was staying. I was completely amazed that they were allowed to just walk right through the casino. But it was pretty darn common so I got a little more used to it after awhile.

Still...seeing a bunch of families with 4 kids all under 12 y.o. running around through casino floor was a little bit of a stunner to me.

I have to agree. My wife and I were just talking about this very subject while we were in Vegas 2 weeks ago. We saw so many kids walking around. I also could not believe all of the 4-10 year olds walking down the strip w/ their family at 1am??? Insane! I have 2 small children (3 and 4) and I would not even think of bringing them to vegas, let alone let them galavant through the casino and be on the strip in the wee hours of the morning!

You guys are a little bit clueless about kids in Vegas. Vegas has many sports related competitions and conventions that involve kids. The last time I was there is was like the national championship of clog dancing and tons of kids were clogging eveywhere.

Once when I ws out there is was some kind of cheerleading/gymnastics, whatever competition. Many really big events of this nature are held in Las Vegas because they have the hotel capacity and just because they have to walk through the casino to get in and out of the hotel, doesn't mean their parents are scum.

Chipr777 has a much stronger point about Tunica, because there is nothing for kids to do in Tunica. So the chances that their parents are degenrate gambling scum is much higher.

PS. If I worked the floor and one of you fetuses tried to sneak in and get me in trouble, I'd capone you.
