Main Event Winner
Anyone else think Greg Raymer has a chance this year? I think he could win it.
|
Re: Main Event Winner
Theres a pretty simple answer here.
He obviously has a chance seeing as he did win last year. But it will be extremely tough with such a large playing field this year. This is quite a thread. |
Re: Main Event Winner
Somewhere around 6600 people have a chance to win it.
|
Re: Main Event Winner
With 6000+ entrants, the best player in the world (whoever that is) is probably no better than a 1000-1 dog.
|
Re: Main Event Winner
The WSOP ME is good hunting grounds for the likes of the Fossilman. Intelligent, aggresive and willing to gamble Greg will play with cautious optimism and give them a run for their money. Unless of course, he busts out early.

I think Vincent Lepore will win the WSOP ME.

Re: Main Event Winner
I think 2004 will be the year he finally takes it down myself. -

Re: Main Event Winner
Phil Gordon (I think) wrote in an article he thinks the best players have a 500-1 chance in his opinion.

First of all, there will probably NEVER be a back-to-back WSOP main event winner again, unless maybe poker decreases SUBSTANTIALLY in popularity for some reason. Second, if someone DOES win back-to-back WSOP main events, it will most likely NOT be Greg Raymer, because there's many way better card players then him. |
Re: Main Event Winner
I would think that the players with the best chance to WIN, would be those who are agressive and can build a large chip stack and use it to bully the relatively inexperienced field. Its going to take a lot of chips, so I would think that floating along waiting for hands isnt going to work, because at some point, you will go card dead.

Re: Main Event Winner
It's going to be between Raymer and Harrington. I can't see anybody else winning it this year . . . unless Moneymaker gets lucky again.
|
Re: Main Event Winner
I agree with another poster that its highly unlikely that their will ever be another back to back winner but it defiently won't be Raymer because he got lucky not to get busted by The Mouth when he hit the flush. Also he won way to many races and got very lucky at that final table to win. He also picked up a lot of good cards. Raymer is a good player but he had lady luck on his side.

Re: Main Event Winner
But no more than 100-200 people have a decent chance of winning it.

How impressive for a 2+2 poster of five years [/ QUOTE ] Wanna bet that over the past five years I have a better record than Mason Malmuth, Ray Zee, Dynasty and a host of other 2 + 2 posters that have been here a lot longer than me? I guess Mason isn't very impressive to a genius like you either. How about posting your record so we can marvel at your accomplishments. Oh, by the way I have a Plus sign before my tournament money results. You? And please tell the IRS that from now on when they want to tax my tournament earnings go to the Hendon Mob Web Site because they have the right numbers up there. I noticed from your profile that you are a student. You should really consider quitting school. It's not helping. Maybe if you quit you can GET A LIFE! Vince |

Nobody wins the ME without getting lucky.

Re: Main Event Winner
Maurile,
If you are serious, I will give you Raymer, Harrington and Moneymaker. I will take the field. I will pay you $300 if either of your men win, and you pay me $100 if they do not. Deal? |

Re: Main Event Winner
I'd bet against him on the "repeat main event WSOP champs are a thing of the past" theory
|
Re: Main Event Winner
Why is it that people think this was any different for any other main event champ in the last 20 years?
|
Re: Main Event Winner
Is it harder for the defending champ simply because of the odds of winning back to back. Or do you mean is it harder because people want to bust the defending champ for the bragging rights.
"How was the WSOP ME?" "I busted out 3456." "That's not too good" "But I did bust out the winner last year" "Wow, you played great." I am sure this is how the average gambler will see it. Am I correct? |
Re: Main Event Winner
The average gambler may see it that way, I wouldn't know.
Yes, I think there are so many more opportunities for the flip side of the "X:1" equation to knock someone out that repeating is nigh on impossible. There's never been a wire-to-wire main event leader that I've heard of, which means you have to be on the wrong side of that X:1 more than once. EVERY one of those have to not bust you out for you to claim the prize. That's partially why Dan Harrington's back-to-back final table streak was so impressive. Yes, he was lucky, but he had to GET lucky and that takes some work (and some damn fine poker playing). I wouldn't bet on Dan to three-peat (whoops, I owe Pat Riley some money now!) the final table appearance either without some really long odds. |
Re: Main Event Winner
O.K. I'll take Raymer against your top ten picks for the
next back-to-back wsop winner. |
Re: Main Event Winner
I took all my money out of all my online accounts and my live bankroll and put half of it on Dutch Boyd to win and the other half on Evelyn Ng.

Re: Main Event Winner
Obviously Norm Chad's 14th wife will be this year's winner. Bet on it!

Re: Main Event Winner
I read somewhere that Doyle listed Ivey, his son Todd and some guy out of ohio called the cincinnati kidd. Doyle said he used to play with a don kidd in texas, so when he met the guy from ohio, he just called him the cincinnati kidd, like from the movie and it stuck. Doyle said the kidd has been tearing up the 1 cent/ 2cent games online and he should be a favorite. Then he went on the tell the story how he got the nickname Dolly. Then,....I married morgan fairchild,..yeah, thats the ticket
