Name suggestions for my new pet fish..
 

Hi guys.

I'm getting a new pet fish today. It's my first ever fish, and will be a coldwater variety, ala a goldfish or similar.

Any cool ideas for his/her name? Obviously poker related names are cool - so lets hear some suggestions!

I bought 2 little fantail goldfish. I have no idea if they`re male or female, so I guess I'll just have to make it up.

I actually like Wanda - I hadn`t even thought of that one (duh!). Top 2 runners at the moment are Wanda and Jaws.. keep `em coming, as I cant have them nameless for too long.

Yes, because that would be tragic not being able to call your fish and have them respond. I agree with jason_t. "Lunch" was the first thing that popped into my head.

Well, thanks to all for some amusing names. I've settled on Bubbles and Wanda for the fantail goldfish, and Mr T for the new Weather Loach I got.

Out of interest, the weather loach is supposedly named due to its ability to predict the weather. A bit of research reveals that it becomes hyperactive when there is a drop in pressure. Does anyone know how this can be put to practical use - ie, is it accurate, and what does a drop in pressure actually mean? I think it's kinda cool if it can do that, but at the moment Mr T has borrowed himself under the rocks and aint doing much. He don't seem to want to predict no damn fool weather, sucka!

Wanda? Fair enough. A bit obvious, but it'll do in a pinch. But Bubbles and Mr T? I, for one, am extremely disappointed. I demand appeasement, Ringo.

The thing you should know about goldfish and coi is that their colors change as they mature so you may not want to name it based on some coloring it has now as that color will likely change.

Goldfish all have unique swims, no two goldfish swim alike. So, you may want to name it based on how it swims - like Thumper, Boitano, or Shaq.

Oh, and don't even worry about whether the name is male of female. It's realy difficult to tell on goldfish and it requires putting opposite sexed fish together in the same tank. Even then, it's often a guess.

I am in the get the pet and name it later camp. I think you need to know your pet a little before you name it. You might give him some sort of complex trying to live up to a name like 'Spot' that you chose for him pre-pet-purchase.

OH, sorry, didn't realize you already named them. Now, just please take good care of them. Well cared for goldfish can live 20-30 years!
