My first poker post 15k hand weekend challenge

This will be my first and perhaps last poker thread. Similar to bisonbison's adhoc only not insane I will be playing 15k hands starting today and ending whenever I go to bed Sunday night/ Monday morning. I have a hard time getting and staying motivated to play, so my hope and plan is that updating every 1000 hands will keep me on task.

Of note is that on Wednesday I switched from NL 6 max to limit 5/10 6max of which I will be playing from 2-4 tables at a time. I didn't play yesterday so this will be my 2nd full day. Truth be told I have no idea if I can even win a this level. I haven't played limit much at in a year and only 1/2- 3/6 before that.

For entertainment i've downloaded quite a few audio books and a bunch of nonporn anime. For snacks basically a [censored] load of Mountain Dew.

[censored],

Good luck on the challenge! FWIW, I've played 5,000 hands of 10/20 6max in a day twice this month and felt completely wrecked after each session.

I would set a month long goal if I were you. If you complete this challenge I doubt you'll want to play poker for a little while afterwards, so it might be somewhat counterproductive.

#1,

I've tried month long goals and I never finish them. I agree this could make not want to play for quite awhile but that would be ok because I am currently visiting a friend in Boston and will probably not end up playing much mon-wed either way.

I am considering a similar challenge. I am off work due to going off a building (I FUBAR'd my feet). I have considered poker a kinda part time job away from the firehouse for 2 years now, but dont play near enough hands (even though we only work 9 days a month).

anyway, the wife is leaving to go out of town tomorrow, and I thought I would post some serious sessions at the tables over the weekend (4-6 tabling $2-$4)

we will see....not sure how I will do, I usually start loosing focus after about 3 hours (Im such a puss)

good luck on your goal

1000 hands

I've reached my first 1000 hands.

The swings at this are horrible. I started out up 225, then down 275 and right now I am up $534. I think some of that is because I am not as strong a player I need to be. I can already tell I am having problems when heads up against strong players. I also think my blind play pretty much sucks.

I finished the audio books Dark Lords of the Sith. I am a big fan of Star Wars but the book was just entirely dialog with descriptive narration. I was disappointed by it.

I have also finshed one Mountain Dew.

Next up another Dew and Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy

Wanna post your screenname so we can drop by to watch?

2000 Hands

Things have taken a sharp turn for the worse. At the 2000 hand mark I am now down $104 overall from being up 500. I suppose a 600 downswing can happen but I don't think it is very likely that I am a winning player at this point. which sucks and is ongly going to make this harder to complete.

Hitch Hiker's guide to the galaxy is pretty good so far, but Ill need to listen to it again as it hasn't had my full attention.

2nd mountian dew finished on to #3.

The thing is there is good chance im going to lose and getting a bunch of 2+2ers at my table will only make it harder to win.

Having 77 against AA on a 77A flop helps quite a bit

3000 Hands

These swings are brutal. I started 2000 down 100 or so by 220 I was up 500 eventually getting to up 800 at one point. As of 3000 I am up $515.

I finished Hitch Hiker's Guide which I thought was good. I need to listen to it again as well. Next up is the Davinci Code.

3 Mountain Dew's done

4000 hands

4000 hands and more huge swings. I'm not really sure how limit players keep from going crazy. This 1000 hands I was as high ss 800+ and as low as 300 settling at 514 at at the 4000 hand mark. I've gotten above 2bb/100 a few times but mostly I stay around 1bb/100

The Davinci Code is quite the soap opera.

4 Mountain Dews down.

Re: 4000 hands

You need to concentrate more on your game, less on audio movies, and even less on your win rate over 4000 hands. Especially considering you've never even played this limit before and are unsure if you are even a winning player. Observe the players, consider your decisions, and maintain your concentration.

I'm also doing a similar challenge, but I'd rather call it a "punishment marathon" because i was a slacker all month.

In order to hit my 50,000-hand quota, I need to play 25,000 hands in 5 days. Day 2 was completed 21 minutes ago with a grand total of 10,055 hands played so far... only 14,945 hands to go!

5000 Hands

Alright Im at 5k hands and exhausted. It is amazing the swings that can happen over just 1000 hands. This time I went to up 1200+ to 700+ and then finished at $952 for the day. Not bad.

At 5k hands I am 1.90bb/100. I would be happy if I could maintain that over the 15k but at the same times from the looks of the tables I am certain some players are capable of doing much better.

I finished with OJ so Im still at 4 MD's.

Also just finished the Da Vinci code. ehh, it wasn't very good IMO.

Thanks for the info.

No, I wasn't kidding you - I'm from Brit-Land, and I'd never heard of Mountain Dew. Not something we have on the shelves over here. (Don't worry - we have plenty of similar stuff, equally bad for your teeth, I'm sure.)

hi censored

Keep posting - interesting to read:-)

Keep up the good work - focus on the game - in shorthanded it's important to get some feeling of the table and your opponents.

Looking forward to hear your result:-)

Day 2

Im getting started for day 2. I feel tired at this point at I am sure once I get going I'll be fine.

Some PT stats from my first 5k hands at 5/10 6max

VPIP 18.92
PFR 13.40
went to SD 37.27
won $ at SD 57.01

Folded SB to steal 83.76
Folded BB to steal 74.07%

Att to Steal 28.76

Agression
flop 3.41
turn 2.78
river 1.41

Let me know if anyone sees something terribly wrong. I think my blind numbers are pretty weak and it is something I need to work on.

Emmitt2222 05-28-2005 02:03 PM

Re: Day 2

those are full ring stats, not shorthanded stats. You should be playing a lot more hands and raising more of them. here is a shorthanded chart just to give you a feel for what you should be playing if you havent seen it already. It is going to be harded to be looser when you are playing so many hands at once so that must have something to do with it.

Good God, man!

Don't you know that playing a high volume of online poker hands can cause serious brain damage?

6000 Hands

After 6000 hands my profits are down to 601. I don't think I played very well. I got a little preoccupied with being more aggressive and playing more hands that I failed to pick the best spots.

Worse though I several times called down or raised the stupid calling stations which makes me dumber than they are.

Plus I still feel like im getting killed on my blind play.

5 Mountain Dews Finished, on to number 6.

I'll be listening the audio book of LOTR.

[censored] 05-28-2005 08:04 PM

7000 Hands

I am at 718 so I recouped some of my losses. I feel like I am winning with strong hands but I then give it away getting caught in the stupid blind wars and other situations I don't feel comfortable with. Yet I don't want to start just completely laying down either. It sucks having no clue if I am playing winning poker or not.

Winrate right now is 1.09/100

Also the guys who bet out into me after I raises preflop are giving me some trouble when I have something like overcards or a mid pp. In NL is almost always raised there but pehaps another plan is needed.

I don't feel very sharp right now so I am going to take a break for 30minutes to refresh.

LOTR is good.

7500 Hands things not looking good.

I can't find any good tables now and I am bleeding money back down to 488. I'm really wondering if I should stop for awhile until I can find better tables. Right now they all are filled with at the worst players seeing between 18-33% of the flops. I don't think I have any type of an edge there.

I'll give it another 500 hands.

[censored] 05-29-2005 12:08 AM

8000 Hands

8000 and this officially sucks, Im down to 150 and I can't even say it is because of a bad run. I just don't think im playing well, calling too many things down. Anways for the rest of the night my actions will either be raising or folding postflop. no more calling period.

sorry it's not working out for you.

break-even with some 50-100BB swings in there after 8k hands isn't that unusual...but you almost definitely correct that you aren't playing ideally.

I can be break-even for 8k hands and then go on a 14BB/100 run for the next 1000 hands.
It indeed is pretty streaky.

I learned about some audio-books that hold no interest to me and also found out that they don't Do the Dew in England.
Who knew?

Day 3

Well I'm not going to make it as I had to stop last night because of impending tilt. Thanks to James282 for sayong call it a night.

I'm going to play out the day though and see how close I can get.

I did a few things last night and today. I posted a several hands and questions in the HUSH forum for starters. I went through my hand histories and I got the hand histories from a friend who wins at the 10/20 6max game and went through some of those as well.

I think i've trace the problem to my blind play. I lose 50% of the money I have posted where I should be losing only 30%. To put that in perspective if I was at 33% I would be up close to $3k instead of down $160. Sucks to know i've wasted a good run of cards.

A few things I've done. First I made a quick starting hands chart for the sb and blind to a raise as one of the biggest problems was that I was simply folding to often preflop from the blinds. This from my NL play where I simply did not worry about playing from the blinds much as being out of position sucked.

Second I am only going to play 2 tables for the time being until I feel confident again.
