Bet River for Value?
Sorry for all the hands. This is the last one. I still have trouble with river betting for value and I wanted opinions on this one before I leave, so when I get back I read them. The A on the board and the turn call threw me off a little.
Party Poker 1/2 Hold'em (8 handed) converter Preflop: Hero is BB with 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]. 2 folds, MP1 calls, 2 folds, Button calls, 1 fold, Hero checks. Re: Bet River for Value?
You need reads to be confident in betting or checking here, both looseness and aggressiveness. If villain is really tight, I would check in front, especially with such a weak kicker. If he's loose, I'm betting this. The more passive, the more inclined I am to bet, as an aggressive player would have been more likely to raise the turn. Unknown, I'd bet.
What would you have done had villain bet instead of checked? If you would have called his bet, you are better off leading out. Nit: next time, don't show the river action, especially the fact that he checked it behind you |
Re: Bet River for Value?
I bet this river, but I'm an idiot.

Re: Bet River for Value?
If he's a rock, there's a good chance he's calling you with a better Q, so checking is good. If he's LPP, he could very well be calling you with Jx or 7x, so pony up, grit your teeth and value bet. I'm not worried about the A given the lack of turn raise.

Anyone else "Check and See" this flop? Sarge[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] [/ QUOTE ] Nope, I bet. If we check it gives him a reason to bet. when given the choice id much rather be in control of the hand. |

Anyone else "Check and See" this flop? Sarge[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] [/ QUOTE ] I would with a bigger field, but against 2 opponents? |
Re: Bet River for Value?
I wouldn't, since I want overcards out of the hand.
What would your plan be if MP1 bets? Buttton? |
Re: Bet River for Value?
the answer is always yes
it's helpful because when in doubt and it's close enough to ask, be inclined to value bet. whether or not it's close enough to ask depends on whether or not you're up against a loose player or a tight one, an unknown, etc. |

Re: Bet River for Value?
yeah usually I go back and edit these posts and add in
EDIT: after reading it, I win! or something like that. but I didnt this time |
Re: Bet River for Value?
Well, you only have one opponent. The river card is not too scary as it probably only completes a King high straight draw. It is somewhat likely that your opponent would have raised the turn with an ace. The rest is very read-dependent, but I am leaning toward betting the river for value. In this small pot, you could probably easily fold to a raise.

Re: Bet River for Value?
True.
However I think sometimes the risk of a SB upfront will make putting in the Big Bet on the river easier – and more likely to be called – If it is checked to the button who bets, fine, we call or CR depending on the players. If I check, and the next player bets, and the button calls – well I suppose we can debate what the best course of action is. Thinking out loud…. Sarge[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] |
