2 Fat Cats vs. Raccoon
I was sitting here, winding down my evening of wins and suckouts, and while I was reading the forum, my cats start freaking out. They are doing their nightly routine of sitting by the window looking outside. After some hissing, and some batting at the screen, the two of them are going nuts! I suppose it was a raccoon, or other small animal. Well, whatever it was, it managed to jump up at the screen a few times and managed to startle myself and a friend.
Still, more than 20 minutes later, and these 2 are trying to look out the window to see what's going on. I think they want a chunk of this thing. So, I pose this question. |
Re: 2 Fat Cats vs. Raccoon
My friends cat used to win fights with raccoons and he was just one cat.

Re: 2 Fat Cats vs. Raccoon
Possibly a case of MAD because even if the cats won there is a good chance of them contracting rabies.
|
Re: 2 Fat Cats vs. Raccoon
I would lay 2 to 1 in favour of the cats. Ofcourse, I wouldn't want MY cats to get hurt in this melee (as they probably would). I also expect at least one of the cats would not survive this encounter against a grown racoon.
Either way, cats are predators by nature and racoons are scavengers - my money goes on the 2 cats. |

I disagree with your statement of there being a "good chance." However both animals would be highly susceptible to infection from any bite wounds received. |
Re: 2 Fat Cats vs. Raccoon
The raccoon, and its not even close.

Re: 2 Fat Cats vs. Raccoon
Thats a bold statement. But after reading this I may have to revise the odds I'm laying to depend on the relative weights of the animals. A racoon can weigh over 100 pounds?!?!??! Now thats CRAZY!

[/ QUOTE ] Yea. No way. I don't believe that...unless it's come kind of genetic hybrid raccoon-bear. I was talking an average raccoon against a regular old tough neighborhood tomcat. |

[/ QUOTE ] Jake, you grew up in Tx, right? When I lived there (outside of Houston) our dogs were afraid of the raccoons. We had several German Shepherds, and they'd leave the porch when the raccoons came out to eat their dog food. Seriously. I've seen several the size of large dogs. Of course, everything is bigger in Tx. It just is. |

Re: 2 Fat Cats vs. Raccoon
Racoon for sure.
I live in the Lower Mainland of BC, the land of Racoons. They're pretty ferocious if they fight, man. Especially defending it's babies. |

Re: 2 Fat Cats vs. Raccoon
In a fight: racoon.
In a skirmish: cats. make your time. |
Re: 2 Fat Cats vs. Raccoon
Wow, I had no idea raccoons got anywhere near that big.
I was going to pick raccoons just because they're wild, and wild animals are constantly perfecting their reaction time and perception of distance, building denser muscle, more awareness, etc., as part of their survival their entire lives. Cats are naturally very fearsome, but a domesticated animal is generally at a huge disadvantage to a wild one of the same type. How much this extended to a 2 cats vs a raccoon, I wasn't sure. But something tells me the cats would get the vide and retreat from a determined wild animal. |
Re: 2 Fat Cats vs. Raccoon
as I was checking the screen where this incident took place last night, there were some significant bite and claw marks through the screen.
too crazy. |
Re: 2 Fat Cats vs. Raccoon
Yeah I know. But my sister in law swears blind she saw a housecat close to the size of a medium-sized dog at the pound recently. So I'll change the question to "where can I get the biggest housecat possible?" (excluding some pound in New York that allegedly had one in recent months).

Re: 2 Fat Cats vs. Raccoon
You are looking for a " Main Coon "
Quote: "Although the Yankee myth of 30-pound cats is just that, a myth (unless the cat is grossly overweight!), these are indeed tall, muscular, big-boned cats; males commonly reach 13 to 18 pounds, with females normally weighing about 9 to 12 pounds. Add to that two or three inches of winter coat, and people will swear that they're looking at one big cat." I had one that was 24 pounds. Yes, he was overweight. |
Re: 2 Fat Cats vs. Raccoon

They sound great. Thanks for the info. |
Re: 2 Fat Cats vs. Raccoon
