Ducks

Semi deep stacks on the $600 tables, totally confused on what to do on the turn.

Party Poker Pot-Limit Hold'em, $ BB (6 max, 6 handed) converter

BB ($400)
UTG ($1406.2)
Hero ($1038.05)
CO ($925.7)
Button ($548.05)
SB ($1000)

Preflop: Hero is MP with 2[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img]. SB posts a blind of $3.
UTG raises to $20, Hero calls $20, 2 folds, SB (poster) calls $17, 1 fold.

Flop: ($66) 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img], 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img], 6[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB checks, UTG bets $35, Hero calls $35, SB calls $35.

Turn: ($171) 7[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] (3 players)
SB checks, UTG checks, Hero bets $70, SB raises to $140

uhoh... both of us still have a good 800 behind us at this point and im not sure if im drawing to the full house or if im still ahead. Any suggestions?

Re: Ducks

I'd make it $300 straight and fold to a re-raise. That's a big enough raise to see if you're ahead

Re: Ducks

Just raise the flop man. Why not?

Re: Ducks

raise the flop.

since you didnt, id use your position and call the turn and see what happens on the river.

he most certainly has a made hand here, and reopening the betting allows lots of bad things to happen, like having a better hand reraise you and a worse hand fold.

Re: Ducks

I didnt feel like giving away strenght, they made such a weak flop bet that it looked more like a stab than top pair or anything that would call a raise. Not to mention i had position on both of them so I wasn't worried about seeing a turn.

this board seems fine for a postflop slowplay with a set in a raised pot, where you have some kind of idea where they are at in the hand.

with a set in an unraised pot, you really have no idea where your opponents are, so its much more risky.

Raise the flop.

As you played it, call the minraise in position and figure out whether he has you on the river. If you fill up, you're gonna have to go broke here since a straight is very likely on this board. If you don't fill, call a reasonable bet on the river, as he could easily be betting two pair hands or overpair hands. If he makes a pot sized or bigger bet on the river, think about mucking. 1/2 pot or less is an insta-call I think.

ALL THE DUCKS ARE SWIMMING IN THE WATER.

.. that's what attracted me to this thread then i realised it was probably about the poker hand 22

But! Since i'm here, i would have raise the flop and let UTG hang himself with AA KK quicker before he freezes up/dislikes a turn raise rather than a flop raise. HAD I NOT DONE THAT. I'd just be calling now.

If you don't fill up on the river and he pots it then you have to wonder how stupid $600 players can be 44 66 are v. legit holdings here, so that's 6 combinations, 77 is a bit of a faggy combination given the flop call, but sure, maybe. 35s is a bit crapy given he called $17 and if he could have 35s then he could have 67s. Ok, in short, for everytime you see 44 66 here will you see an idiot with AA KK A7 67? Seems so.

In by book ducks grow into being a swan if there's a 2 on the flop.
