Best frozen dinners?
 

Unless you're still at mommys' house, it's very likely you know the frozen dinner section of the supermarket. They've come a long way.

Personally, I like stouffers the best. Their lasagna is good. Their rigatoni with pesto and chicken chunks is great. Especially when you add Texas Toast (garlic) to it. Your place will smell like an italian restaurant. Put it on a plate and it actually looks like you could've cooked it yourself.

Michael Angelo has some good ones lately too. I like their lasagna better than stouffers. Partially due to burnout. I also dig their chicken parmesan. It's actually pretty good.

Anyone else have some that they really don't mind? They've come a long way from just the plain old swanson days.

Everyone at my job eats the Healthy Choice frozen meals, some of them aren't bad.

I actually never ate frozen meals like this until I started working awkward night hours at a place other than a restaurant. I was spending way too much on eating out.

This is true. I've had some of those. I've heard this about some weight watchers meals too. Sometimes the brand name conjures up a different image of the buyer that it's targeted to.

Stouffers lasagna and Mac & Cheese are pretty good. I also like the Marie Callendar's line. Chicken Fried Steak is especially good.

F the marie callendar's line. You have to microwave like 3 things for 8 minutes each then pour some steaming hot sauce out of some shitty plastic thing on your food w/o burning yourself. i prefer the microwave dinner i punch one hole in and hit the 4 on my microwave. come back and eat. easy

Well I was basing this on taste, not ease of preparation. I do agree that Marie Callendar's are a bit tougher to make with the pouch of gravy but if you're not a retard you can get it done without bodily harm and it's the gravy that makes it yummy. It's still a lot easier than making your own chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and gravy.

I agree that the best tasting stuff usually comes in different pouches. And is also ridiculously easy to make. They have a frozen pack (skillet sensations) that you put in a pan then add some other stuff to it. The mexican one is great for fajitas.

It's also easier because when you make these meals on your own it's very tough to make it in small quantity.

Depends on what you're planning on making. But some of these dinners/meals have come a long way. Especially the 'partials' that you add stuff to.

You also save time. No prep, no clean-up. You can do something else with the time it'd have taken. However, it does cost a bit more than if you make it yourself.

But there's also an intro to certain meals. Stuff you might never have tried. So instead of spending all the time making it to find out you don't like it, you can do it with a smaller sample size. I did this with the rigatoni and pesto sauce. It inspired me to make my own.

But as someone else said, sometimes you just want to pop a couple holes in it and throw it in a micro and be done with it. (personally, I don't really use the microwave for anything other than popcorn)

Stouffer's regular lasagna is good, but the vegetable lasagna ain't so hot. Their t.v. dinners are pretty good though.

I like the Marie Calendars ones the best overall, I think. They taste the most like real food and least like stuff the astronauts are going to be unwrapping on a lifelong spaceflight.

There is one off-brand linguini and clams one I like a lot though. Not exactly meaty or anything, but I really like the flavor. One of those smaller square packs, I forget the maker.

Problem is almost all of these are very high in salt, which most people already get far too much of in their diet, so you're kind of taking a health risk eating these things much. Most of them also have a ton of sugar and calories.

Those things are huge, I'm a 6'5" college kid and can't even finish one of these. I'm more a fan of ramen noodles since they're so cheap, but on occasion I'll spring for some hot pockets or some sort of chicken alfredo dinner. One of the grocer's around here carries some frozen BBQ from Famous Dave's and I'll buy that sometimes, usually beef brisquet and I'll buy some hamburger buns to put it on.

Keep this list going, I usually buy a few of these Healthy Choice or Lean Cuisine, only to find out that the taste is completely missing.

The Hungry Man and Marie Callendar dinners are pretty tasty but oh-so bad for you. I'm a sucker for the potatoes included in these dinners. And the gravy. Which is why I don't allow myself to buy them.

It's funny. When you go to a supermarket, say, 2 days after the add comes out in the paper for this, the frozen section looks barren on the shelves. Almost as if it was looted.

This isn't a frozen dinner but it kinda applies as a "man's dinner". Those soup starter pouches are good eats. And the soup is better reheated. Just get some of those beef cubes and I add macaroni noodles. I made some on Sunday and just finished it off a half hour ago.

Uncle Ben's rice bowls are great. There are weeks where I eat nothing but those, Subway sandwiches and Clif bars.

I buy like four of these each time I go to the supermarket, I like to add a little salt and pepper to it. Damn good. Their cheesy potato bake is good too.

They used to have some rice stuff that you cooked up in a pan, added 2 scrambled eggs to along with something else. It was great. Then they discontinued it. So I actually called them and talked to them about it.

It was funny. The gal on the other line was saying how ,yes, lots of people really liked those blah, blah, nothing but great reviews, blah blah. I started laughing. She asked what I was laughing at. I said if that many people really liked them and the reviews were really that great you guys wouldn't have discontinued them. I said it's cool you're being real nice and all, but, c'mon. She thought a moment then kind of giggled and said, yeah, you're right.

She was pretty cool but it was funny how she approached it.

Those were great meals though.
Much better than the ones they have out now.

Marie Callenders Spaghetti w/ Meat Sauce with the side of garlic bread that you put in the toaster... I seriously could eat it every day. I think Marie Callender is definately the best, Claim Jumper is good too.

Uncle Ben's rice/noodle bowls are ridiculous. Stouffer's mac & cheese is fabulous as well. Some of the Healthy Choice stuff is aiight, but I'm usually still hungry when done.
