Best Band Tourney Part 2

So we got mixed results, so I'm going to go on with it, but include a poll at the bottom so that people can vote on whether I should finish it up or not. I ommitted a couple from the 90's due to a miscount. Also, I didn't check on any of these for validity to time or anything, or add many of my own. If you have a complaint about a band that's not there, then you should've mentioned them in my other threads. Polls end in 2 days.

Offspring, Nirvana and Greenday should win 90s. But U2 will win because that is the band everyone is required to like even though they suck balls.

Re: Best Band Tourney Part 2

In the 60's I voted for Dylan, Beatles, Rolling Stones, Doors.
70's: Tom Petty, Bowie, Led Zep, Who
80's: Police, REM, NWA, Beasties
90's: Countin Crows, Outkast, Sublime, Green Day

The 90's definetly has the most depth, but the 60's and 70's are very top heavy and will likely produce the winner.

You really should delete all those rappers from the 90s.

I think that Fleetwood Mac and the Smiths may suffer from the fact that they have to compete for votes with themselves

All I care about is that the SMASHING PUMPKINS win the 90's with Radiohead coming in close second. A little love for STP would be appreciated, too. I would understand Pearl Jam.

police
u2
jane's addiction

stp

smashing pumkins

I only voted for 3 in each decade because there wasn't a 4th that impressed me enough.
I guess I could have voted for the Beatles in the 60's...but I've just never been a big Beatles fan.

i was hesitant to vote for jane's addiction in the 80's because it's pretty much just based on one album (nothing's shocking) for me.

Well, the results are open, but I would've bet the house on Radiohead being top 2, and I would've been right.

Re: Best Band Tourney Part 2

I actually haven't listened to Nirvana in a long time. They were a big band in the early 90s and basically kicked off grunge music and inspired a bunch of bands to come. Even if you don't like them, you probably like at least one band whose music was inspired by Nirvana. Offspring is one band who was encouraged by Nirvana (especially in the album "Ignition"). I am not currently a big Nirvana fan, but I respect them because they instigated a lot of the music I like today. That is why I think they should be considered a top band of the nineties.

The Hip's first real album, "Up to Here," was actually released Sept. 5, 1989. However, they actually had non-famous album released earlier than that... i forget the name - go figure.

If more Canadians were polled the Hip would likely win this whole damn poll - hands down.

Tragically hip are a good Canadian band that came out in like 1988 or something.

I dont consider Janes Addiction a 1980's band and neither does anyone else with half a brain(dont tell me they were formed in like 1987..they still werent a 80's band)

The Cars should have been on the 80's list.

On the 1990's alot of the OOT posters are like 18-20 so I think the results are skewed a bit ....Pearl Jam shouldnt be getting half the votes Radiohead is getting thats just wrong.

My choices:

60s: Beatles, Bob Dylan
70s: Tom Petty, CCR, Black Sabbath, Zeppelin
80s: New Order, GNR
90s: Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Tool

Yes, I realize I could have picked 4 in each category. But I didn't.

Does anybody else think that a 2000s poll would be more interesting?

I mean, before this started I bet at least half the people here could guess that the top two in each decade would be:

60s: beatles/stones
70s: LZ/floyd
80s: who gives a [censored]
90s: nirvana/radiohead

The stones are tied for second right now, but other than that, its all there.

IMO, the 2000s would at least wouldnt be that predictable.

RHCP = Red Hot Chili Peppers

I think they are under represented because no one knows wtf RHCP means.

For the 60's, JHE= Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Re: Best Band Tourney Part 2

The 60's and 70's seem to be shaping up pretty closely to how they should be, although it's interesting to see Hendrix beating the Stones right now. The 70's are almost spot on.

The 80's are getting dominated by GNR, which is to be expected I guess, but Metallica shouldn't be so far behind. I'll never understand why U2 is so popular, I find it hard to listen to any of their music. I think all of U2's votes should be reallocated to the Clash and the Cure. Which reminds me, where are the Ramones?

As for the 90's... Nirvana is overrated if you guys think they should be killing every other band by so wide a margin. It should be Radiohead and the Smashing Pumpkins up top, followed by Nirvana, RATM, and Green Day in any particular order, with Tool being the wild card that can get any ranking depending on how many people here have seriously listened to them. The lack of love for RHCP is disturbing, since they should easily be in the top 7 or 8. Eminem getting more votes than Tupac/Biggie is hilariously stupid. The support for Weezer and Sublime is awesome because they rule, but they can't really hang with the other bands on this list.

With the exception of Nirvana's placing, the tourney seems to be going as should be expected. LZ vs. Beatles vs. GNR is where it really gets interesting though. Zeppelin in a walk I say.

Glad to see you know what our opinions should be!

But seriously, Nirvana is way way way more influential than any of the other bands, and has still a huge following. I happen to like them a lot more than any of the other bands listed.

I can't be bothered reading this whole thread, but I thought I should let you know that you have absolutely zero musical credibility now (not that you did before). Learn to read, and then when you were to young to participate in a music scene yourself you won't make horribly embarassing mistakes.
