Dear BisonBison URGENT!
 

I'm electronically filling my taxes today. I always wait untill the last minute because my taxes are always super simple. (next year will be different). But this year im the basic unemployed student filing a 1040.

Anyway the problem is I cant find ANY of my W2's!!! I had them on the coffee table but they aren't there. I have a sickening feeling that my gf threw them out in a pile of junk mail. She is at work and left her cell phone here. She should be off work and back home in 30 min, BUT thats if she doesnt go shopping all day wich she usually does, in that case I can't expect her home for a while. WTF do I do? And in the likely chance the W2's have been thown out do I have any recourse?

File for an extension. They're free and automatic and will delay your filing until August.

I think TurboTax online has some sort of feature where they can look up your W2. I don't know the details, but I think my roommate did it. Anyone?

It's only if your employer participates in their program. Most don't.

If you think you owe any taxes, however, you'd better estimate them and send in a check. The extension only applies to filing your taxes, not to paying them!

I used to prepare taxes here is what you do.

If you were not paying or getting a refund, simply file an extension.

If you owed tax, then file an extention and include the payment along with it. If you don't remember how much then use your best estimate.

You can request new copies of your W2s from your employer, if for some reason you are unable to then you can request a copy from the IRS.

meh, I suck at photoshop, that's really easy. Just took his old avatar, erased everything I didn't want, made it all black, then went back, copied over the 'D' from the hat. Next I made a yellow circle on a black background, used a diffuse glow filter (what morons do to make photoshop stuff look good) and voila.

I took that into consideration -- being a college student and saying he didn't make a boatload on poker last year make this unlikely, though.

If you're getting a refund, don't worry about it. File next month, next year, or whenever you like. As long as they owe you, they don't care when you file, extension or not.
