11:38 PM and Nobody Has Anything To Say About Aruba??

Has Vince chased everyone out of this forum, or what?

Worst, most expensive beat in the history of the WPT, and nobody utters a peep?

What gives?

"F$%^%ck you Comcast for not carrying the Travel Channel in Philadelphia. I'll have to catch it on Saturday if they repeat it then.

Start the "official" thread and you'll get people talking about the event.

Best setup line ever:

Layne: just ask
the mouth: what u got?
Layne (insta-reply): u beat

Perfect!!

I think I enjoy watching Mike lose just as much as watching Hellmuth lose

was it just me, or was this one of the first poker on tv shows where they didn't explain the rules?

Here's my thing. The money presentation, wasn't that the most pathetic opening for a money presentation ever? Devilfish coming out of the water...cmon... him even coming onto the shore and stuff looked fake to me.

All he did was walk into the water backwards and then they reversed the tape. Duh.

The worst part, as always, was that you knew that a 2 was coming with 2 minutes remaining on the telecast.

the money presentations are already incredible lame...but that was even worse.
My thought was that if they asked me to do that I would tell them "Well guys...I'd love to...except that your idea is just incredibly gay and thus I can't bring myself to participate. Thanks for asking though."

My favorite part involved the blurring of the Ultimatebet.com logo on the table.

Any long range shot will blur the Ultimatebet.com logo, but when it goes to the shot directly above the board cards a computer-generated logo of Ultimatebet.net (notice net instead of com) appears. Magic!

You can tell the blur is ultimatebet.com on a couple of shots on Matusow (no blur).

Man was that ending a downer or what. All of Layne's kids watching and looking so sad as he gets brutally sucked out on.

because of the dept of justice crack-down on online-gambling site advertising on TV.
ultimatebet.com is their real-money site. dot-NET is their play-money site. Most of the TV stations are playing it safe and are only airing ads for the play-money sites now...so they blurred out the site that is for real-money.

Re: 11:38 PM and Nobody Has Anything To Say About Aruba??

The show is very tired. Maybe that is why nobody has commented on it.

They need to improve production and get these events on television quicker - meaning closer to the event date - to keep my interest.

Suggestions:

1. Show a little coverage from earlier days in tourney.

2. Interview players about specific hands after they are knocked out. You see this in sports often where the interviewer walks a player through a play and asks them what they were thinking and seeing as a replay is shown to the viewers.

3. Incorporate some of the "Poker Corner" type commentary. WPT tried a pilot show where some players critiqued a tourney after the fact. It was actually very interesting. I wish they could fit some of that kind of analysis in regular tourney coverage.

4. Replace both Mike and Vince. I like the Fox poker "booth" where there are usually two "color commentators". The back and forth between two knowlegeable commentators can really add to enjoyment of the broadcasts.

5. More Shana Hiatt. Seriously, they could use her to tell a little more background about the casinos, live action surrounding the tourney, the local area, or more in depth features on players with interesting stories.

A step in the right direction

Well I thought they improved a few things. They didn't waste time explaining the rules of Hold'Em, and they tried to provide a little useful insight with their piece about blind stealing.

Re: A step in the right direction

Overall a good episode, it did seem like they wanted to cut down the fluff a bit and have more actual content. Plus it was a fairly interesting table.

I also got a chuckle out of Sexton something to the effect of "Well he wants to go all in preflop since he knows he can't possibly outplay him post flop" but in a slightly nicer way.

Worst beat? Oh you must be talking about when Mike stayed alive with his horrible suckout with the kj off against Layne's AA's. Yeah he plays like a loser, than acts like one after he sucks out lol. His dance around the table were shades of the unibomber. Another class act.

I tuned in just as he sucked out. Why did he keep yelling vindication? It made no sense at all. Someone would yell vindication if say you had AA vs KJ and the flop came KJ5, turn 2, River 5. A suck, re-resuck. Him yelling vindication when he sucks out with a dominated hand made no sense at all. Then he tries to hug Layne? A complete ass.

Goes down in history as one of the most awkward and inappropriate exchanges ever.

"Yeah, I just sucked out mercilessly on you, and sure, I danced around like a monkey yelling a word I guess I don't fully understand, and sure, yeah, I did it for a LONG time, to the point where it looked like I was trying to show you up, but hey--GIMME A HUG!!!"

What an absolute tool. He's an unbearable human being, and I don't care if people say they edit the shows to make him look that way, or he's actually a really sweet soul away from the table or whatever.

He makes me want to change the channel.

Re: 11:38 PM and Nobody Has Anything To Say About Aruba??

He had gotten sucked out on a few hands earlier hence the vindication mantra...

I really didn't think it was that bad of play by mike, just a really good trap from flack.

It seemend that the best hand on the flop rarely won. Mike lost on a pretty bad beat late in the tourney.

The ending was a major suckout. The only reason he played that hand is that he doubled up on a pair of 2's earlier in the tourney. The analysis was spot on in that he fell in love with the idea that 2's were his lucky hand so he played them. Turned out they were...

Tough beat for Layne

This is the third year in a row where wpt has had to blatantly blur out the UB.com logo. why does the wpt keep on letting ub put their logo on the table if they are going to blur it out? why not just put UB.net up there in the first place?

Devil fish says something like "it wasn't anything that personal, I raised the whole table"

Am I the only one that actually felt bad for him there? I know he talks a lot of crap but he doesn't seem like he's that bad of a guy once you get to know him. And, it looks like he probably did cry when they went to commercial...
