Bonii is not a word...
... so people, please stop using it in an attempt to sound sophisticated. An old-fashioned dictionary can be very useful sometimes.

Re: Bonii is not a word...
It's funny though, like saying "peni." It's rather bland to go around saying "penes" or "penises" when you can say "peni."

Re: Bonii is not a word...
Let's review our masculine -us latin declension
Case Sing/Plural Nominative: Bonus/Boni Gentive: Boni/Bonorum Dative: Bono/Bonis Accusative: Bonum/Bonos Ablative: Bono/Bonis Some sample sentences: Nominative (subject) Singular: This bonus takes forever to clear because I'm afraid to play above .5/$1 Nominative plural: These boni are all that keep me from going bankrupt. Genitive (possessive) doesn't really translate well in English as it requires the preposition "of" or an apostrophe and it's hard to come up with a sensical sentence where a bonus is possessing something, so I'm skipping it. Dative (indirect object) singular: Party poker gave (to the) bono some complicated stipulations. Accusative (direct object) plural: Bodog wanted to give Bono (U2) many bonos, but he decided to play pro bono. Ablative: no one really knows what the ablative case is for, so we'll skip it. So, techincally, there is no bonii form, but remember, this is fun and not one of the few scenarii where getting it right would matter. Ipse Dixit, Magister Frau |
Re: Bonii is not a word...
While your latin kung fu is good, you must remember that "bonus" is an adjective, not a noun. Two thwacks with the ruler.

It's not an adjective (and here's an easy, informal way to check), because you can't use it with the word 'very' with it. It's not very bonus. |

I tried to put a stop to this a while ago. These dorks are relentless. Free speech I guess. I'm guessing these are the same people that love Star Trek and used to play Dungeon and Dragons for days at time......and the ones who didn't have girlfriends until their mid-20s. |

Thank you for posting this thread.
I've had the urge to post exactly the same thing every time I see that so-called word on here. One of them is a bonus not a bonius! You'd think all the genii here would know. 'Course appears a few of them do know but don't care. |

Ablative: no one really knows what the ablative case is for, so we'll skip it. [/ QUOTE ] The ablative is an adverbial case used (generally) for indicating the manner of an action. It's also the case used with many prepositions. "I bought a new computer with my bonus (cum bono meo) from Party Poker." Magister Belloc |

AMDG [/ QUOTE ] In both Latin and English, adjectives used substantively function as nouns: "The meek shall inherit the earth." "Only the good (bonus) die young." It's much more common in Latin than in English. Magister Belloc |

Occasionally words are added to the dictionary. If we keep using it enough, it might be there someday!
Also, internet forums and grammer police do not get along. |
