custom chip advice

Gallery

I am debating between custom Pokerchips.com chips and the new egyptian paulsons.

So, this weekend, instead of doing my taxes, I have been toying with an insert design. I have no artistic talent so it is really only text with a center logo/graphic.

I am thinking of the logo only on one side and the logo with text on the other.

What do you think? Is it too busy, or will it be too small to read?

Thanks,

Leonard

- Obviously, my last name is DeCarlo. I live in Tyler, TX USA

i like the first one, the plain DC. i had this same sort of conundrum on my hands a few weeks ago. i like the pokerchips chips; i guess i'll buy some one day.

i'm too impulsive, and i need new chips too much to be able to wait for 4 months.

I think that all designs except the first simple "DC" one will be too busy and feature skinny fonts that won't be legible when reduced to chip size. My 2c.

DC on one side.

Modified logo on the other. Just suggestions, so take with a shaker of salt.

1. use #2 as a base for the obverse
2. remove all text except gray background
3. add 'club decarlo' or 'decarlo club' at the top in black
4. add 'tyler, tx' at the bottom in black
5. add denomination in red
6. leave the big 'dc' alone, but consider varying the other fonts used for text - size, weight and color differences are good but (again just my opinion) you would be well off to make a stand in the form of the other text (denoms could be left in a similar font as the DC but in a lighter weight like the rest of the text).

First and foremost, I suggest getting the Pharaoh's Club Paulson's

Second, if you don't, or you want a second set, I would use the third logo. It's classic, and the red DC really stands out. I like it a lot.

(maybe buy a Paulson set, and use the DC's as labels for a set of RPT Nexgens?)

Thanks for the advice. I will play around with it.

I really had been leaning against denoms, and that is my primary complaint against the egyptians (plus the white $1 chip which is really just a quibble). However, I have been thinking that if you don't have denominations on the chips then you ALWAYS have to post a denom/color list, and with denoms you only have to do that when you vary from the printed denoms.

Don't give up on either one of these yet. I am tossing around the idea of having three blanks in the Pharaoh's Club set: the white, blue, and orange. That gives a LOT of options in buying a seven color set that will work for anyone.

Ten what is the possibility of having Both a $1 blue and a $1 white? Since this is a custom run and you are already thinking about doing three blanks. I would get the $1 chip in the color I want and use a blank for the $0.25 chip.

This would make more people happy and maybe be able to get your "YES" count up a little.

Ten -

I like this idea the best. Lets do a white and a blue $1 chip. Then people can use the blank as a 25 cent or 1000 chip depending on how they want to do it.

It seems that we are split right down the middle on white vs. blue for $1. I'd say its worth the extra setup charge just to offer two $1 chips.

Just my thoughts.

Cool idea about having three blanks. Hell, you could probably make two complete sets if the cost is spread over 100k+ chips... One blank and one denomination. Then the non denom crowd would be completely on your bandwagon and you can make an executive decision about which denom is what and people in the other camp can just suck it up. I would *probably* choose denominations myself.

You want exclusive? Non denom paulsons... now that's different!

Ooops, sorry Leonard... I didn't realize I was continuing a hijack....

BACK ON LEONARDS TOPIC!

I like #4 for the obverse. I would put #2 on the reverse but change the "wrap text" to the same as the obverse for a little continuity. I think you'll have to bold those thin fonts.

Zero chance of having a white AND blue $1. There are many many reasons why. Least of all is that there will be a charge for every change. $150 bottom end, up to $350 each depending on what they consider a small change. Doesn't sound like much, but when we start at 7 X $350, and starting adding all these extra chips, it gets steep very fast. I'm already at $3,500.00 for art, and there is word that shaped inlays may cost extra too.

The problem will be virtually eliminated because I am going to build three blanks total. An Orange for the cash people to have a blank, and a white and blue blank to make the tourney people happy and also give a choice for the "$1 blue, NO $1 white!" crowd.

Added #5 which is kind of what you asked for.

Leonard,

Why not do something like this Hotel San Remo Chip.

DC on top, Club DeCarlo in the middle, denomination and "Tyler, Texas" on the bottom.

Re: custom chip advice

yeah, that's pretty cool man. that little "est 1982" is going to disappear on a chip though. In my estimation, a 200dpi image printed on a laser printer is going to be about what you'll see under the inlay after they use 300dpi to create them due to the plastic of the inlay. I'm not sure but I think pc.com uses a 7/8in inlay.

I like #3 (clubcasinosmall2gv.jpg) also, maybe with #5 on the other side (clubwithdenom0io.jpg). Don't know about pokerchips.com chips, but I've seen text that small on Paulsons and it looks OK. I like the red "DC", looks cool.

Is this the one you are going with? Personally, I think this is the best design of the bunch.

Note: Your curved text is a little bit off center. Notice that the 'y' in city is lower than the 'L' in Las Vegas - Similarly, the 'k' in drink is higher than the 'F' in Food.

Not to be picky, just thought i'd mention it.

Messing around. I like the idea of a texas watermark but this one seems overcrowded. I like the idea of marking Tyler on the map, but the black star seems awkward.

I am really just messing with design ideas - nothing is even close to final.
One of my main concerns is how legible small test would be on a 7/8" (I think) inlay.

Thanks

I agree. Maybe if I put "Club-Casino" at the top and "Tyler, Texas" on the bottom in a slightly larger font.
