I use 3/8" carpet foam and have had no complaints. [/ QUOTE ] That's not consistent and chips won't bounce right if your doing tricks. |
Re: Best foam for poker table????
Most folks generally agree that Neoprene is the best choice but Volara (what I used), EVA, carpet padding, HD foam (I personally wouldn't recommend this) and other materials have been used sucessfully. Check out pokerfoam.info and definitely check out Scott Keen's poker table building forum if you are building a table. Read the Faqs first.

Re: Best foam for poker table????
The best you can get for a poker table, and is not cheap by any means, is called HIGH DENSITY CLOSED CELL FOAM. This stuff will never crush, and always maintains its shape. You'll need to get a 1/4" thickness. This is the product and distributor that I bought from.
http://www.knoxfoam.com/cgi-bin/Soft....htm?E+scstore The product number (scroll down) is CCR13 and is sold by the foot. Say you want 9', they will cut a piece 9' long by 51" wide. They were great with getting my order to my house very quickly. Highly recommended. IF YOUR NOT USING CLOSED CELL FOAM, YOUR USING THE WRONG STUFF!!!! |
Re: Best foam for poker table????
Definitely read the Scott-Keen forum...
Some folks also use headliner foam. You can also check out yourautotrim for supplies... they have the suited cloth which I hear is nice. Another foam source - Fins |
Re: Best foam for poker table????
On the top of my table I used that foam and a double velvet from JoAnn Fabrics. Seriously guys, This conbination together feels exactly like a Casino table top.

Re: Best foam for poker table????
I used the headliner material purchased from my local fabric store. I believe it cost about $7 per lineal yard (3' wide).

Re: Best foam for poker table????
used headliner foam from fabric store,,,great stuff. I don' like real thick soft foam myself, just enough give for tossing chips and picking up cards easy.

Re: Best foam for poker table????
Ive used the Joanns headliner foam and its decent, but closed cell is much better. If you want the best get neoprene, if you want some awesome stuff get volora. Both are great.

find one table in a casino that uses neoprene

Re: Best foam for poker table????
i use closed cell foam on my table because that is what was recommended by the salesman. but it is NOT what casino's use. they use a 3/8" open cell high density foam. it is much softer than the closed cell. there is a water barrier between that and the felt (made out of air bag material).

Re: Best foam for poker table????
I used 2 layers of 1/4 closed cell foam (its black)
I didnt like the feel of just one layer, so I decided to add another. It made a pretty significant difference in the bounce of the chips... however, it is nothing compared to a casino tables foam. As someone said, they use a much softer type of foam. However, that kind of foam will wear down quicker... so unless you want to replace your foam reguraly, I would suggest using the closed cell foam. I also just refelted the table and left the orginal felt on. This add even more 'bounce'. I would have been a pain in the ass to try and remove te old felt anyway. A LOT of staples to remove. |
