Custom Kings Crown Group Buy - Order Thread
 

As most of you probably know by now, I am organizing a group buy of "semi-custom" clay chips from T.R. King. I refer to them as "semi-custom" because, while the chips will use T.R. King's stock "Kings Crown" inlay, they will all be dual edge-spotted with custom colors. The Kings Crown inlay is, in return, borrowed from the former Kings Crown Casino in Las Vegas. For those wondering, the reason I decided to re-use this inlay is two-fold: 1) It has the "classic" casino look I am trying to accomplish with these chips, and 2) I have discovered from experience that group-designing an inlay is a HUGE headache (just look how hard it was to settle on the color scheme!), so it is much easier to use something already in existence. There will be no modification made to the stock inlay, but T.R. King has agreed to not make the chips in these color combinations for anyone but us, so you need not worry about security in your home game. Also, it will allow those who wish to to mix and match with the two existing Kings Crown fantasy sets - the solid color chips sold by Dice702 and the single edge-spot chips sold direct by T.R. King.

Here is the set, approximately as it will appear in it's final form. Please note I made educated guesses for a couple colors AND all monitors display colors slightly different, so "actual results may vary." Also, the gray chip will probably not have a denomination printed on it, as it will act as a "filler" chip, unless the large majority of people want it as the $0.25:

The price for this group buy will be $0.85/chip + shipping and escrow fees (if any) - I need to get it up to 5,000 chips for this price. Please post or PM me if you are definitely interested in purchasing a set of these chips, and let me know your email address and how many of each denomination (a rough idea anyway) you want to purchase, even if you have already done so. Once I have an idea of the numbers, we can all discuss and decide how we would like to handle the payments. Basically, we can either set up an escrow account, or each pay T.R. King separately if that does not work out to be too cumbersome. Also, I have an offer from one of the participants who lives ~5 minutes from T.R. King to pick up the chips and handle the shipping with his business account at a cost of $10 per 500 chips.

Click the T.R. King link above. Give Dennis a call, tell him you are considering this group buy, and ask for some samples. He will usually send a couple out free of charge, and very quickly. I recommend anyone considering these do this, and soon, as I would like to get this order underway in the next week or 2 at most. Just because I love the feel of these chips doesn't mean everyone will (but they should [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]).

Can we purchase carrying cases also, to be delived with our order? I am willing to buy the case while they are getting picked up and shipped that way.

I would assume so, but honestly I think you could probably find a better case for a better deal elsewhere. I have bought chips from T.R. King before, and the cardboard chip boxes they send them in are plenty adequate for safe shipping.

Do TR Kings work ok in standard cases?

They're a little little smaller than 39mm... so you might want to factor in getting the 'right' cases / racks from Dennis.

They fit fine in cases. Not too sure about racks though. I think someone mentioned they fit, but will wobble a little bit. If anyone is concerned, I will try putting them in my chipco racks and let them know.

So far I don't see many posts with amounts. Is this going to happen?

Cases - yes. I have Casbah Club chips in a regular case and they are fine. Racks - I hear they wobble when stacked.

I'm leaning toward grabbing 150-200 $1 and 150-200 $5 and not sure what else from there.

I have a higher denomination smallish set of Egyptians coming (80 100s, 40 500s, 12 1000s, 6 plaques) and would love to see those chips before making a larger home set purchase.

I like the green most, gold 2nd.

I like the lt blue, but we're already using lt blue on the $1. Unless we change the $1, I vote against that one.

Okay, I would like to have the final order commitments in for February 11, with the actual order and deposit being placed on February 15. This should be enough time for anyone who needs to order samples and check the chips out. This also means we should have the chips in hand around mid-March. I am also thinking, if necessary to get the total up to 5,000, I may front the cash for a couple extra sets of 500 and get rid of them on eBay when they come in.

EDIT: To clear up any confusion, the way we are working this buy is we are going to be placing individual orders directly with T.R. King for what is essentially going to be a "limited edition" run of chips. You can pay for shipment of your quantity directly from them.

Roughly 4,500 counting everyone's minimums. We will get there, because if necessary, I will buy up an extra set of 500 and sell it on eBay.

25¢ - Gray w/ 4x double-wide Purple

Mine is a cash game breakdown with some room for tourneys. I've been playing cash games with my Casbah Club set and like tr king more each time I use them. Probably put the Casbah's on Ebay sometime in the next week to pay for these.

These are the quantites I got for 1000 Suits Chipco chips:

Amounts are Tourney/Cash
175 White - $1/.25
250 Red - $5/.50
275 Green - $25/$1
175 Black - $100/$5
75 Purple - $500/$25
50 Blue - $1000

I got the most green because I play mostly cash games and those are my $1 (most used) in cash. They are non-denom chips, so much easier. You just need to figure out what your cash limits are and if it will be possible to get the correct mix and have it still flex for tournies. One way you could do this if necessary is to use the $25 chip for .25 cents in cash, $100 is $1, etc.

So did anybody order any yet from T.R.King? I called today and placed an order for 100 chips (small sample).

10 of each $0.25, $1, $5, $25,
20 of each $100, $500, $1000

The pricing was weird, I didn't want to pry too much as Dennis sounded really busy when I called and kept on saying hold on while he answers other phones. I originally ordered 70 chips (10 of each denom). Then I called back and asked him what the total would be and he said something like $69.50 (or $66.50, I might have heard wrong). He said it included shipping so I asked if shipping would be same for 30 more chips and he sad yes, so I ordered 30 more. At those prices, I'm not sure if it's $0.85 per chip anymore, unless shipping is 10 bucks for 70 chips (0.85 x 70 + $10 = $69.50). In which case it would be (0.85 x 100 + 10 = $95) for my order, $0.95 per chip after shipping.

Mwahahaha, my fortress of miscellaneous chips on my desk is growing strong... I'll post a pic one of these days.

We ordered about 6k

Chip price doesn't include shipping. I've found TR King's shipping prices to be reasonable on my small and large orders. Cheaper than expected on the large order and I didn't really notice on the small one.
