Best Album Cover Art

Inspired by the London Calling post in Desert Island Albums thread, this is the place to POST PICS of the greatest album cover art of all time.

Unfortunately, I think the topic really begins and ends with this -- the cover to Slint's untilted 2-song EP:

Reminder: your posts are bullshit without pictures. Naming an album is no good -- we wanna see this supposedly awesome cover art.

I really like the Paul's Boutique cover and fold out CD booklet. I used to have it up on my wall because it looks great unfolded. Unfortunately I can't find a full shot of that on the net, but here's the cover.

I won't. Im a hardcore kid! (who is 26 yr old and listens to mostly indie rock)

People around my office started calling me that because I refused to buy an IPOD..and my musical tasts..I hate my 2+2 name.

Trust me though, In New York, I couldn't hang with the "hipster" set. No way.

Re: Not Even Close

I am just messing with you. I get this shite all the time. I listen to a lot of the "newer hipster/indy" stuff, but I don't get the hipster scene at all. What is so different about their scene as oppossed to others? They spend a lot of money on hair products, clothes, food, etc... Growing up in Houston (I am 27 now) we had scenes also. But, it was much different because it was basically a big bite of DC and Olympia (I guess the Nation of Ulysses spanned the U.S.), which led to a lot of DIY, politics, feminism, etc...

Man, this is a totally dope thread... I have a book at home about the best album covers ever, but yeah, it's a home and I'm at college. It's a real sweet coffee table book. I'd recommend any of them (there are dozens).

Not an outside cover but an inside cover from Prodigy's Music for the Jilted Generation.

And while looking for that image online I happened to stumble on this, never heard of it or seen it, but it's a damn nice cover

Balkii and a friend of ours went to this record show and the girl from the herb alpert (honestly, you've never heard of or seen it? I thought that thing was all over the place.) cover was there. Since the picture was taken in the 60's (70's?), you can imagine that she's not quite as attractive these days. She was charging $20 for signed pictures. The record store didn't invite her, she just showed up...

Awesome one too. Steps is an ep, so can't compare, but the 4 songs are fantastic.. Progression through Unlearning is great too (#3).

Designs for Automation is.."meh" at best.

But the one that came out last year, End Transmission? Is pretty cool, they quote the Modest Mouse lyric from that song on Moon and Antartica.Tiny Cities made of Ashes.

"Does anybody know a way that a body could get away?
Does anybody know a way?" On New Kata. Good song.

Their last show is on Saturday in B-Lo.

Anyone who doesn't think that Victory and Hardcore were at their peak from 1993-1999 is crazy.

Anybody who likes heaviesh type music should check out the following old hardcore bands.

Turmoil
Earth Crisis
Despair
One King Down
Countervail
Jesuit
(older) Hatebreed or new too.
Deadguy
Path of Resistance
Botch
Kiss it Goodbye
Coalesce

Any other band that performed at the first Syracuse Hell Fest in 1996.

too bad the production on lookingglasself is so shoddy. nevertheless, it's a classic. i love it. incarnation is 8 million times better live though.

get steps now. it's amazing. progression through unlearning is also essential. after progression though i lost track of snapcase.

have you guys ever heard torn apart? their album "nothing is permanent" is probably my favorite hardcore album ever. it's that good.

i was there too! did you see a lot of hardcore shows in syracuse around then? i lived in syracuse at the time, and that was my personal golden age of hardcore. seeing snapcase, earth crisis, harvest, endeavor, etc. at chuck's was the best.

i would definitely add endeavor and torn apart to your list, and probably harvest too. walls of jericho own but they're newer and much better live than on cd.

Of course. Torn Apart were a really good band (from Maryland I think) I still have a shirt of theres I believe.

Actually my whole weekend wardrobe consists of old hardcore shirts, I have this awesome Incarnation t-shirt, some neighbor of mine lost my one of a kind (or like 30) Snapcase shirt with a Henry David Thoreua quote on it, recognizing a specific show at the Wetlands in NYC on 9/9/96.

I went to Hellfest in 96 I think. I went to so many shows it is hard to remembver what I went to and what I missed. I just posted the other day about the show I saw in Mass that was Coalesce, Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge and Neurosis. Best show ever. I think your list of old hardcore faves was sorely lacking. Where is the Bloodlet? First time I saw Bloodlet in Syracuse I wet myself with glee.

IndieMatty 01-20-2005 12:12 PM

Re: Not Even Close

I went to the very first one, thats awesome. Nothing like it, one of the better experiences of my life. My buddy still has the lineup poster...Same one you are thinking of? with Coalesce and Today is the Day, where there was that gun bullshit that almost ended day 3? It was at Hungry Charlies right? I went to a few others there, nothing memorable.

Forgot about Harvest. track 2 off there second album was my voicemail on my first Zach Morrisesque cell phone.

"Dedication to discipline and tolerance of self..."

Most of my shirts are way too big, but I can still wear a couple. I have a red Iceburn longsleeve with the Victory logo down the sleeves and I also have a Snapcase hooded sweatshirt with the sleeve logo. I also have a really ancient Shelter t-shirt that is still wearable.

Re: Not Even Close

I always hated Bloodlet, my friends worshipped them, I couldn't stand his voice.

And for the record I hated, Brothers Keeper...but I don't think anyone really liked them anyway.

I'm trying to think of others.

I guess Converge too, but their still around.

I have so many obscure bands that would come to the PWAC in Long Island I can't remember them all.
