thoughts on \"Tilt\"?

A set of deuces is like a mackerel in the moonlight. One minute it's real shiny, the next... it stinks. I've been reading all your thoughts on "Tilt" just wondering what everyone thought after the premiere.

As for me... I did not see nearly enough poker action... without that it seemed like just another bad drama. I'm a huge Madsen fan though, so that brings some redemption. Would have liked to see him slice an ear, but jumping on some guy's head is just as good.

now excuse me, I have to go "relieve myself"

I think he jumped on the guy's knee.

I thought it was pretty weak. The cameo with T.J. Cloutier and Daniel Negreanu was gratuitous and the interview with Madsen and Norman Chad.....top poker players are way more articulate and less trite than that. I doubt Madsen has spent much time watching poker. He's pretty wooden in this role so far.

I predict a lot of sleazy sex, moody atmosphere, weird poker similies from Madsen and violence so, yea, I'll watch it a bit.

I also predict someone will say this is the wrong place to post this topic but...aw well. ;~)

Jumped on his arm and broke it as far as I know.

I thought it was going to be goofy, I was right, it was like the show Las Vegas, entertaining, not really based in reality, but entertaining enough to watch. It was a fun show, though I thought.

This is really a terrible show.

It's time for me to get out of the kiddie pool and change the channel.

At least I won my home game tonight to justify not going out to the bar.

Disclaimer, I stopped watching about half way through to go play poker.

Ok...so Daniel Negraneau and T.J. Cloutier are too scared to sit down in a game with the Matador? ...Ri-ight. Unless they know its a rigged game I suppose.

Are we supposed to understand that the entire table is colluding against the fish? What so nine guys just sit there pulling their puds until a mark joins in? Ri-ight.

Of course they knew it was rigged. They saw the home crowd gang at the table.

No, the game was set up and started after the fish was spotted. The floor was in on it. And all pud pulling is done by the bathroom Hoe.

Is it bad for the game? Eh, I say bad publicity is usually better than no publicity.

Is it a terrible show? Pretty much. Very cheesy and cliche, but at the same time, damn entertaining IMO.

Does it really matter that it portrays Vegas full of cheaters and many other falacies about poker? Let's get real here, it doesn't really matter. Poker is a fun addicting game that people will continue to flock to, this show will not stop that flock, if anything, it will boulster it.

Am I going to watch it next week? Ehh... uhh... Oh who am I kidding. You bet your ass I'm going to watch it next week.

The show was AWESOME. I am so going to Vegas to go pro. I can take guys like the Matador - I may be lured into the ring, but this bull's got horns baby. Right On!

Pretty tough audience. I liked it myself, and I hold TV/movies based on sports or gambling to a higher standard. Seeing a 12-year old girl chew up a guy's bankroll was entertaining. The whole collusion angle was a stretch for sure, but hey.... the show won't attract viewers if u hear guys at the table discussing pot odds.

OK, I'll admit the "you've got the ass-end of the straight" line from the 12 yo was pretty funny.

This show sucked. Period.

I can't wait to hear the 16 year olds at Turning Stone talking about wiping their A*sses with their $100 buy-ins.

All the cheating is definitely bad for the game. Bad all-around and my 2 year old can act better than the entire cast.

Re: thoughts on \"Tilt\"?

It seemed like they gratuitously threw around poker jargon and it was delivered quite artificially:

"I'm not trying to put you on a hand"
"That six minted me. I've got - a set!"
"It's a dead hand. I want my chips back."

And re-raising preflop with deuces!? That guy deserved to go broke, fixed game or not. Anyone notice how Madsen said that he (the mark) had "23 and change" after he had just reraised preflop to $4000...this means that we're supposed to believe that the guy turned $8000 into $27000, and so did Matador, who had bought in with a $10,000 chip. So the mark is allowed to -triple- his money and then some before they break him??

Ahh, screw it, I'm still going to watch it every week just because it has Mr Blonde in it.

Re: thoughts on \"Tilt\"?

I've been thinking more about how this portrayal of cheating in poker...

I know when people tell me that they will never play online because of the cheating, one of my canned responses is that it's easy to cheat in a live game too. This show "proves" that, so maybe more people will play online because they fear being cheating in a live game.

Make sense?

Your location now sucks dude. Big step down.

On another note, I'm seriously considering getting season tickets for the Mets and reconverting now that I live nearby again.

Maybe 23 hundred, not thousand. Makes much more sense.

Besides, I don't even wipe my ass with $2,300. I put it in the bank. Weird.

Re: thoughts on \"Tilt\"?

I guess cheating in live games was always mroe fo a concern than online. Online is rigged has benn discussed many times and it is pointless.
As for the show... no comments.

Some things we can look forward to:

Raising 64s
reraising 22
Going to the river with 66 hoping to get minted
Playing 43s like a pair, because they've got a pair

In short, the games will stay the same as they were before. Carry on.

Exactly...HIS FATHER IS THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY!!!

I love unintentional comedy, but to have an hours worth of over the top Playmakers style ridiculousness, is stupid. I now finally understand why the NFL hated PLaymkers so much. It's a travshamockery!

Re: thoughts on \"Tilt\"?

You think this show is bad now? Wait until you find out in Episode 3 that that guy who was making a read by looking through his opponents cards was actually looking through those cards. He got X Ray Vision after the Matador threw him in a vat of toxic sludge.

His face is actually a carefully crafted mask that he takes off at night.

Re: thoughts on \"Tilt\"?

Love the references to the Sports Guy. Unintentional comedy is great, and this show is full of it. However, I think Playmakers was actually a lot better than Tilt. It has only been on once so far though, so maybe it will get better with age.
