Help! My girlfriend wants to watch!!
 

So she smiles when I make the money in a MTT.
She happily agrees to dinners and snacks that poker profits provide.
She doesn't even mind reading at night while I multi-table.
But this weekend we are going to be in Vegas, I play, she shops, we're both happy. . .until she asks if she can sit behind me at the Bellagio and watch for a few hours.
She's heard that its been done.

Why should this be an issue? Just tell her that it's very important that she not show any emotion when you're in a hand and that she not ask you why you played a hand a certain way until you're both away from the table.

In all likelihood, she'll get bored after 30 minutes and leave to go shopping.

My wife sat behind me for over an hour the other night in a single table satalite at the WPO. She doesn't read hands very well, and has no idea why and how I play certain hands the way I do, so emotion CAN'T come into play. She knows not to discuss hands until later if she must. She also knows I'm not going to be good company when shes sitting there. We've talked about the fact that even though I may not be in a hand it's very important to watch how others are playing their hands. With that in mind I'm not going to be good company. If you talk to your girlfriend prior to playing about some of these things she'll either sit behind you and behave or change her mind about it altogether. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

Dude, just let her sweat you and be happy you have a girl you not only doesn't sigh at your poker hobby, but actually supports you in it. Most aren't that fortunate.

Seriously. My guys have to deal with their girls complaining about the poker.

She will probably get bored and leave anyway.

My wife has sat and watched behind me at Foxwoods a few times.

I can't imagine it's all that interesting but she says she's not bored.

Oh, and I don't show her the cards until after the hand, if at all.

My GF has said the same thing watching me play craps. In my case, she was clearly lying.

Use it to your advantage. Ask her to wear something that shows some cleavage to distract other players. And maybe you should allow other players to think that YOU are distracted if she's close to you...

As far as tells are concerned, have her sit in a position where she won't see your cards when you check them, and let her know you'll only show her the cards after you're done with a hand. She can smile from ear to ear after betting is closed and it won't matter, will it?

(I guess it might matter... too much smiling and/or giggling when you take down a huge pot might put someone on tilt, but that's a plus!)

My GF wouldn't sit and watch me play poker if you paid her.
she really doesn't have much interest in even going to a casino but we'll probably head down sometime.

If she DID want to watch me play that would be fine and dandy and I don't understand what the problem here is.
I just would hope that I don't take back to back bad-beats in the 20/40 game because she would probably be a little stressed watching me drop $500+ in just a few minutes.

Don't forget to let your girlfriend indulge in free drinks, as you play. Most cocktail waitresses are cool about it and will fetch a drink even for significant others who are NOT playing. Tip well...good luck and have fun in Vegas.

My wife used to spend HOURS watching me play.

My wife also used to live in constant fear that I would cheat on her, if given the oppurtunity--such as an evening out where women and alcohol were available.

I have no doubt the above paragraphs are related.

Think about it.

(Put it this way--now I play online, AT HOME, and she has absolutely no interest in watching me.)

It seems I should clarify my intentions of the post.
I am flattered that I have a girl that takes an interest in something I am passionate about.
However, I was more uncertain as to how we both would be able to handle a situation, should it arise, where I wasn't winning.
Seemed like it would just be uncomfortable.
I should note, that I don't plan on losing, and even if I did I know it in all truth would not be a big deal.
I did feign shock and horror when she asked though.
And I did already purchase a spa package that I will be surprising her with on Saturday.
I just said a whole lot of nothing.
