Rio Poker Room Now Open

It's been open for two days. Ten tables in a section of the sports book. When I was in there tonight, they only had two tables going. A $2-4 and a $4-8.
I don't have much to report on the room (it was one of many rooms I hit on Wednesday) but just wanted to let you know that the place is open.

Best Wishes

Howard

I've been looking forward to this one. I hope they will eventually spread something bigger than 4-8, though.

Re: Rio Poker Room Now Open

I played in the first tournament on Tuesday. They are going to hold a $40 tournament at noon daily going forward from what I was told. The quality of the players was pretty weak. Very loose with a number of calling stations.

From talking to one of the floormen they are hoping to spread $1/2 NL and $2/5 NL games along with Omaha and Stud games once the interest is there.

The current comp rate is $1/hr which isn't great, but it is better than nothing (which is how Harrah's is set up).

The room is non-smoking which is nice, but is right on the casino floor making it loud.

They ran the tournament pretty well so I expect this should turn into a quality gaming experience once people learn the room is open.

Howard, much appreciate the update. Might have to go over sunday after work and check it out to see what kind of fishies are in for the holiday.

Does the room look like it could be easily expanded so that in the summer they can permanently become a "big" poker room to compete with the Bellagio and Mirage (and Wynn Las Vegas, presumably). With the WSOP being held there, it's a good opportunity for them to grab a loyal poker base.

Hi,

According to the shift manager I just talked to, they will be adding another 6 tables (16 in total) in a month. They plan on spreading $15-30 & $20-40 when they add the new tables (according to said floorman).

Best of Luck

Howard

I went down to the Rio's poker room on the 1st because i got tired of my AK losing to 26 off at the excalibur where i waited 2 hours for my seat that day, so i went to the Rio i get there and the have the tables pushed into the sports book theres like 10 and 9 are full 1 is empty i doubt they even had 10 dealers to work all the [censored] tables, it's cramped as [censored] and i say to the bitch working the front put me on the list for no limit, she puts me on the list for the 2-5 game, instead of the 1-2 i give up and walk the [censored] out, them getting 6 more tables into that piece of [censored] corner they have of the sportsbook would be fun to watch let alone them have 16 dealers to work the son bitch cause it's trashy, my AK may get beat by 26 off at the excalibur 1-2 NL game and i might have to wait long for my seat but i'll be damned if im going to sit around in some crammed corner that they like to call a poker room and dont even ask you what game u want to play, i'll just stick to the excalibur i guess maybe mandalay will give me hope , because the rio is pathetic

How on earth is she to know that you wanted to play 1-2? What, were you THINKING it really loud?

Rio has (always has had) a location problem. To get me over there the Rio will have to spread something other than 2-4 and 4-8. I wasted my money on Penn + Teller once in my life so the casino will have to build out a remarkable poker room to catch me and the rest of the strip traffic. I would also recommend that those going over to the Rio take a cab because they run people down for sport out front.

Side note: I would guess that having experience running a poker room would be a fantastic thing to have on a resume in Vegas right now. It's almost as good as being a security systems expert. Big, big demand.

Ditto. First time I've done it, but well worth it for this guy. I'd bet he's brain damaged enough to keep posting dorky comebacks in our direction, not caring we cannot see them.

Top notch security guys are paid unbelievable amounts...I mean unblievable amounts. My mom was friends with an Elder who's son is a director of something at Ho Chunk (medium sized casino in Wisconsin) he said the Director of gaming security was the 3rd highest paid guy at the place and was making as much less than the GM-VP operations as you would think.

Just let me know when you'll be there. I'll be happy to crack that AK for ya. [img]/images/graemlins/tongue.gif[/img]

BTW, welcome to the ignore list of half the forum because of your lack of punctuation, capitilization, and basic intelligence.

It actually has a great location for a poker room. It's very easy for locals to get in and out of. Having a regular local customer base is more important than you think.

Good point. No, I didn't think or I would have known that.

How do you add someone to your ignore list?

Click on their user name and then a profile window will show up. At the bottom are choices and one of them is "ignore this user". Surprisingly, I have more in the past 2 weeks than my entire time on this board, lol.

UPDATE:

As of 1/3/05 The Rio is no longer running the 12:00 noon tourneys.

I called right after work yesterday morning to get the buy-in info from them and they said they have cancelled them. It has been moved to 7pm, just like most every other game in this city. So much for playing 2 tournaments in one day.

Then again:
Aladdin 1pm
then off to the Rio at 7pm
then Plaza at Midnight on my day off, LOL!

And there's another thing my Christmas-adled brain forgot. Doesn't Rio now own the World Series of Poker? They bought it from Binions, yes? If this is also true then consider my first post a hack job written by my dog.
