The Official ADHOC Challenge Thread.

This is the official thread for the All-Day Hold'em Obsessive Challenge, the stupidest idea I've had this week.

The rules, such as they are:

1. Before you take the challenge, you must post here declaring when you're starting (so that people may pester you) and how many tables you'll be playing (so that you may be held to ADHOC standards).

2. You do the challenge by playing X tables for 24 hours straight.

3. You post a PokerTracker screenshot in this thread, filtered to the specific date on which you took the challenge.

This screenshot should indicate 3 things:

A. That you played only Party and Affiliates 10-max games.

B. That you played at full tables as much as possible. Therefore, your AP stat (average players per hand) on the sessions tab must be above 7, or you have FAILED.

C. That your hand total is above 1.042 hands/minute/table over those 24 hours, or you have FAILED. This number should keep people playing for almost an entire day, while allowing for poop breaks.

Upon completion and posting, you will be granted entry into the illustrious ADHOC ranks.

Depending on how many tables you played, your rank in the order is as follows:

1 table (1500 hands): Tafetta
2 tables (3000 hands): Cotton
3 tables (4500 hands): Velcro
4 tables (6000 hands): Chrome
5 tables (7500 hands): Popcorn
6 tables (9000 hands): Mucus
7 tables (10500 hands): Teak
8 tables (12000 hands): Tobacco
9 tables (13500 hands): Soap
10 tables (15000 hands): Paprika
11 tables (16500 hands): Leather
12 tables (18000 hands): Rye
13 tables (19500 hands): Cork
14 tables (21000 hands): Velvet
15 tables (22500 hands): Pyrite
16 tables (24000 hands): Nerf

Achieving a given rank means nothing, and should be a matter of shame as much as pride. But if I say I'm taking the 8-table challenge on the 7th and I play 12,000 hands, I'm now ADHOC: Tobacco. If I say I'm taking the 8-table challenge and I play 11,000 hands, I have achieved NOTHING.

That is all. Begin to throw yourselves onto the pyre.

There'll be two titles for each rank. Variance Champ Up and Variance Champ Down.

I won't be participating, but have an idea.

You should have everyone that signed up, but failed, be "forced" to all use an avatar of your choice for one month, or whatever, signifying their glorious failure.

Likewise - appropiate avatars granted to those that achieve NERF status.

Have fun...

Re: The Official ADHOC Challenge Thread.

Well, I think a failure avatar would be appropriate, but the whole idea is that Nerf is no better than Tafetta when it comes down to it.

You've wasted a day of your life to become Nerf. Pride and shame in equal measures.

I'm pretty sure that everyone with the exception of 1 mayyyyybe 2 people will fail.

That being said....count me in!

Yeah... I never get more than about 220 HPH 4-tabling... so to get 6,000 hands in a day... I only have -3.27 hours to poop!

Re: The Official ADHOC Challenge Thread.

So that there's an official record of this somewhere:

I am in sometime within the next month.
4 tables of $3/6.

I will announce minutes before I start, because it's going to be when I wake up from a full night's sleep, which hasn't been happening a lot lately.

EDIT: Being Jewish-ish, I might do this on Christmas.

Mark\'s ADHOC Challenge 12/20

in lieu of the fact that i think this is the best idea ever, i have decided that i will give it a go. i will start at approximately 430 EST today, giving me enough time to take a shower, prepare some quick and easy to eat food, and run to 7-11 to buy like 8 red bulls. i will also use this time to figure out how many tables i want to play, but im thinking 10. i will report back before i start.

Yeah if you were to full table 8 tables of $15/30 for 24 hours you'd lose like what, $10-11,000?

I've been playing 6-max NL like crazy, however for the sake of this challenge I guess I'll have to play full ring.

That is unless Bison changes it so NL players can't play along or something.

Re: The Official ADHOC Challenge Thread.

Ignoring the obvious burnout implications of this challenge, I'm in.

My plan is do this on 12/30/04 6:00am EST until 12/31/04 6:00am EST, sleep the day away on New Year's Eve, and then party in the New Year. Being the lightweight that I am, I'll only be 4-tabling (weak) a combo of $2/$4, $3/$6, and $5/$10. Additionally, for the last hour of the challenge, I'll make my initial foray into the world of $15/$30 (but only one table - ). All you regulars make sure to set your alarms because I'm sure to be throwing a party after 23 straight hours.

Bison: A quick clarification to the rules: if a person declares they will accept the challenge for X tables, can they actually play >X tables at any time to meet the requirements (e.g., the person is falling behind)?

Peer pressure is a bitch.

Interesting good luck.

I wish I had the time/freedom to do this.

I'd probably modify the challenge by mixing it with OIC concept.

First 2000 hands $1/$2
Second 2000 hands $2/$4
Third 2000 hands $3/$6
etc...

hmmm....

Not that I'd do this, because anybody that knows me knows that I struggle to get in more than 150 hands a day, but why no love for 6 max?

Just so I'm clear, I'm not saying the intial idea sucks, quite the opposite, I wish I had time to do it.

I think my other idea of incorporating it with OIC guidelines was a bad idea.

Re: The Official ADHOC Challenge Thread.

Guys, the reason I didn't include 6-max is that I didn't know fair numbers to cite.

On the one hand, you get more hands/hour playing 6-max. On the other, it must be harder to play 8+ tables. And finally, switching tables is a significant drag on hands/hour, and it seems like 6-max tables would be more likely to break up. So I wasn't just going to make up numbers.

If someone wants to set comparatively tough standards, I'm sure that ADSHOC (All-day shorthanded holdem...) can get started.

7 tables (10500 hands): Teak

62 hands/table/hour is pretty optimistic. It took me 31 hours to do 10,000 hands 7 tabling back in June.

I've been thinking about trying the 10k hand session again 10-tabling, trying to get 10k in 24 hours (and I need a good session like that for the cnfuzzed challenge).

Cool idea bison

If you don't mind my asking, what type of setup do you have that enables you to play ten tables at once? Quad 21" LCDs? Do you have a keyboard interface for all your betting and folding?

Playing Poker on X-mas and Easter have got to be +EV, for multiple reasons.

I made the um "mistake" of getting hitched to a christian, so even though she converted, I still have to spend X-mas with the inlaws.

Why wasn't that mentioned at my wedding?

Re: The Official ADHOC Challenge Thread.

Do you think you can tone down the number of hands required at every level by around 15%? On the .5/1.00 I average a shade over 60hands/hour at a full table. Your requirements give me negative time to sh1t, smoke a cigarette, read the paper, watch the entire LoTR trilogy (extended editions), do some wash, my taxes, and have some good lovin with the lady friend.

i can't even fathom 16 tables. currently i play 3 tables. i could do 4 but i like having that other 1/4 of my screen for 2+2 or msn or something.

i would also think 8-tabling would be uber confusing. when it gets to this many, do reads have anything to do with it or is it just standard plays for each situation? i find sometimes even at 3-tables i time out of a hand because i get too focused on a big pot at one table.

I'll be doing the 8-table challenge at some point in the next week, at which point I'll consider whether the hand totals are even possible. But I'm not going to revise them before I give it a try, because that'd be lame.

cnfuzzd 01-05-2005 03:28 PM

Re: The Official ADHOC Challenge Thread.

for the 8-table level, you will need to play 63 hands an hour, on each table. That seems impossibly high. Not that i wont enjoy watching you fail, but i thought you should know.
