Study Quest/poll
So, all this study talk is about. I've got 13 hours to learn an entire course on Canadian Trust Law, then write the 3-hour closed-book exam. What do you guys think?

Re: Study Quest/poll
You're smart, you'll do it. Stop posting.

Re: Study Quest/poll
yup, your screwed, but I still think you can do it.
Good luck! |
Re: Study Quest/poll
You seem like a smart enough guy so I think you can do it.
I hope you're not reading this tonight though Good Luck |
Re: Study Quest/poll
Oh yeah, one detail I forgot.
I went to the class. Once. -Diplomat |

Yep, you're screwed.
But I wish you the absolute best man, git 'er done! -Edge |
Re: Study Quest/poll
I bet you can post for two more hours and still pull this [censored] off.

Update 1
12 hours until test time. I've reviewed a fair amount, and am feeling positive. Recognizing material from other courses. It's a good sign.

Re: Update 1
Are you highlighting? You really should be highlighting.

You're smart enough to do it.

Re: Update 1
Yep, in the text -- it's quasi-closed book, meaning I can bring in the course text, but it cannot have notations other than highlighting and underlining (texts inspected at the door).

Re: Update 1
Do you know anyone else who has taken this class? Maybe they can tell you what kind of exan it will be. Just start skimming the book, looking over the basic ideas behind each chapter and reading the summaries. Try searching the internet for book reviews to help with the general thesis. That way you can turn to whichever chapter is needed when you come to a question and skim the specifics then.

Re: Study Quest/poll
One who procrastinates can still be smart enough. It's definitely a leak though.

Update 2
Ok, 2 hours after I started studying, and I'm over 25% through the course. I feel confident that I can be through the course by 4 am, and have enough time to sleep for 3 hours. It's all about the pacing.

(texts inspected at the door). [/ QUOTE ] wow, canadian law schools are hardcore. |
Update 3
All right, so I'm about %60 done reviewing. I've recieved a minor setback, as my neighbours have turned their bad music up higher than ever before. They sense weakness.
I've also heard from others in my class that we are all equally screwed for this material. Given that the curve is a B, I might be ok. -Diplomat |

Update 4
All right, I've read %100 of the materials distributed and have read two outlines from last year's course. I'm in semi-ok shape now, so long as he doesn't ask too many obscure things. Time for a short break, then do some policy work, then bed.

Re: Update 4
What the hell kind of easy class is this? All my classes to date would require a week of solid reading to get through all the materials. That said, I've got a tax final on Friday I've not even cracked the book for. Ugh. I did attend about half the time though...

It's Canada . . .
I kid, I kid. |
Re: Update 4
Does your professor put old exams for check-out in the library? That's a good way to get a feel for how screwed you are.

Exam report
All right,
so I went to bed at around 4 am, hoping to get about 4 hours of sleep. I tossed until about 6, then zonked right out for about 2 hours. I made it to the exam with time to spare. The format was what I expected, one drafting excercise (draft a few charitable trusts, etc.), one question about duties owed by trustees to beneficiaries, and one policy question. All together, I'd give it about a 5/10 for difficulty. The drafting and the policy went fairly well, but the duties question was a bit weak. I ended up getting lost in a somewhat obscure argument about the relevance of pre-Confederation decisions from English courts and their applicability to modern trust law, but somewhat steered myself back on course. If I had to guess, I'd put my performance at about a B or B-. Definitely not an A, but definitely not a C either. Ok, off to bed. -Diplomat |
