Stereotypes?
Is there a collective opinion for the following?
|
Re: Stereotypes?
I inteneded this to mean for poker ability but whatever. In life, the answer to question 1 is the British (excl. Welsh).
I personally think the brits suck at poker and had wondered if anyone else had thought this. |

Card gambling and casino gambling is (or has been) looked down upon and not really talked about in normal circles.. Compare WPT and even your celebrity poker, which have audiences and cheering (whooping!?) etc, to our equivalent, Late Night Poker, which is 8 people in a quiet room, in near darkness..... And if this topic is a dig at me in particular, I don't care! At least you noticed me !!! |
Re: Stereotypes?
There's something soothing about Late Night Poker though. It's dated now though and to be frank a large part of its competitors were nobodies who thought they were something special.
I take it you're Welsh, despite calling football soccer - that threw me a bit. No, it's not a dig at you. I just wanted to put a line out for someone. Nearly put the Scots. They are the worst - sweat buckets when they bluff. |
Re: Stereotypes?
Arent there Asians over there?! If were gonna talk stereotypes theyve gotta be included.
|
Re: Stereotypes?
Asians are probably one of the worst ethnicities at poker, but I find the British / Scandinavians particularly bad. It may just be my collective memory from Prima / VC / Paradise though.

Asians are probably one of the worst ethnicities at poker, [/ QUOTE ] Not in the games I play in. Dov |

Re: Stereotypes?
all are equally the bestest

Re: Stereotypes?
I can't even vote on this. It's your poll and I respect that, but any results are purely speculative. No one can honestly answer this question for lack of evidence.
|
Re: Stereotypes?
Fair play. Give the poll a slating though if you want to. I don't even know why I posted it.
You don't need evidence to vote, however. Nor to answer honestly. I have noticed that the French are taking a particular pounding and am left wondering if this is poker's political backlash. They appear on a fair few british based sites but I'm imaginging that most people who've voted here play US. Who knows? They won't care what anyone thinks anyway. |
Re: Stereotypes?
Greeks are the worst.
|
Re: Stereotypes?
Unless they are from the Isle of Crete, which will never die, by the way.
|
Re: Stereotypes?
Scandinavians tend to be pretty good I believe
|
Re: Stereotypes?
Doyle, TJ, Hellmuth, Ted Forrest, Lederer. They're all better than Devilfish. I'm still not convinced Gus Hanson is as good as his record shows. Colin Montgomery sucks at cards.

Scandinavians tend to be pretty good I believe [/ QUOTE ] From my experiences at prima i believe the exact opposite they represent by far the worst players on that site atleast at my levels. |
Re: Stereotypes?
There isint much players in scandinavia, actually only Norway and Sweden are part of scandinavia, so Gus Hansen isint from there. And still scandinavians seems to best players everywhere you go. At least the number of fishes in high games is by far lowest.
From what remember worst players come from Greece, I think I have never seen a good player from Greece. But on the other side, they are allways polite, nice and never say anything bad. So I vote for americans to be worst. Since, some of bad players are also complete morons, acting and talking like retared. And after Greece america must also have the highest fish-ratio. Re: Stereotypes?
This is poker forum, but no, Finland isint part of scandinavia. Sweden and Norway are only real countries in scandinavia, even tho you sometimes hear that Iceland and Finland are part of scandinavia. Denmark definitely not.

[/ QUOTE ] Denmark is definitely part of Scandinavia. Scandinavia is Denmark, Norway and Sweden. What we in Sweden call "Norden" ("the nordic countries"?) also includes Finland and Iceland. Re: Stereotypes?
The low-limit card casinos here in Seattle tend to be dominated by Asian fish. It's not that they're bad per se, most of them just don't give a damn. I can't figure it out. The like to bet in the dark, check-raise blind, straddle UTG, all that stuff. It's just fine with me (though things can get a big swingyt). I think they just like to gamble and don't really care about poker. It may as well be pai-gow or something.

Re: Stereotypes?
should also be a way to say what country you live in, sure that skews your study bro..not that everyone would be 100% honest, and also your question is random you should have picked a game

Re: Stereotypes?
Hilarious. Yeah, the cardrooms in Oregon and Washington are just awful.
