Bellagio 5 Diamond Classic 2k NLHE - 3 Hands
Hand 1a
I have a stack of around 4kish. Villian is a very aggressive player in the BB. I raise from MP up to 1200 (Blinds 200/400) with AKs. He flat calls from the BB. Flop is 44J. He checks, I bet 1700 or so, he calls. Hmmm. Turn is a J. He checks, I check. River is a 2. He puts me all in for my last 700 (I know, numbers not all accurate here, except the 700 left). Hand 1b. I have around 17k, with blinds at 400/800 with some ante. New player sits down at the table with around 7k. As he sits down (Before looking at his cards), he says "Thank GOD they moved me to this table. My last one there were like all ins every other hand." He looks at his cards, and raises it up to 2500. Its folded to me on the button with AKd. The irony was too great, so I said "Welcome to the table" and pushed. Hand 2 Villian in this hand is a dangerous player. But he plays loose preflop. He had previously laid down a big hand to me when I check raised him off a better hand. Villian and hero both have close to the same stack (I had him covered by roughly 2k). He raises to 3k from MP, folded to me in the BB with ATs. I call. He could be playing any 2 here. Flop is A73r. I check, he thinks for a bit, then bets out 7k. I was more certien of my read in this case than I ever was all tournament, and was almost sure he had a mid-high PP. 99-QQ. I push. The one with my AK push was one of the funnier hands I've ever seen. Overall I had a very enjoyable time. David Williams is every bit as nice as he seems in interviews. Met GotMilk, very nice as well. Spent a good bit of time with 2+2'r scooterdoo. Fishman is dominating the 5 diamond events so far. I'm surprised at the success of several LAG's, but that's poker. Will post a full trip report when I get home, its all in Word. Just wanted to throw up a few hands. 350 entered. Kitten Warrior finishes a meager 34. Money starts at 27. I hurt alot. Nick |

Gavin,
Just a short trip for me. I fly out Tues morning. Can't leave a wife and kids for too long. Would have loved to have met up. You should have come for today's event. =) Why not bump up your flight and come in tomorrow. Scooterdoo is prolly still gonna be here. Nick |
Re: Bellagio 5 Diamond Classic 2k NLHE - 3 Hands
Oh, and one other thing I thought you guys might like. I THOROUGHLY enjoyed that while playing live, you have MUCH more time you can use to make your decision. I probably took this to an extreme. By the end of the day, the table had two nicknames for me. "Lightning" and "The Human Rain Delay" I personally preferred the latter.

meeting someone at the airport or I would... I was hoping to have to push it back b/c the WPT is doing a Young Guns special, but they decided not to include me b/c of my lack of success in their tourneys.
Gavin Griffin p.s. I'm sure we'll meet somewhere, if you see me around, just come up and say hi! I'm nice most of the time |
Re: Bellagio 5 Diamond Classic 2k NLHE - 3 Hands
Looking forward to the trip report.
Did you find playing live easier? (I do) Too bad about the bubble. Regards, Woodguy |

Yes. I found live play much easier to concentrate, and make better plays. It was easier for me to put a quick read on somoene, and be fairly accurate. And there is no 30 second timer forcing you to make a quick play. Nick |
Re: Bellagio 5 Diamond Classic 2k NLHE - 3 Hands
Hand 1a: I'm a bit confused. You obviously have to call the river, but why did you get to the river w/ 3300 of your 4k in the middle? Why not just push preflop? Since you didn't, why not just push the flop instead of betting 1700 and keeping 700?
1b is standard. Hand 2: If you truly believe he has that hand, why not just call the flop and hope he'll bet the turn. If he checks the turn, then you can put in a tempting small value bet that he might pay off. This seems like he's obviously calling with better hands and folding worse ones. I respect your game Chief, but I think you botched 2 of these 3 hands. |
Re: Bellagio 5 Diamond Classic 2k NLHE - 3 Hands
Chief I have sources that some pasty player wearing a horrid beige hat could have check folded into the cash can you confirm such rumors......

Re: Bellagio 5 Diamond Classic 2k NLHE - 3 Hands
Hand 1- I push the flop if Im going to bet it.
Hand 1b- I play the same, and am laughing out loud at that whole situtation. Hand 2- Seems here the only thing your going to get called by is something that beats u. I may consider flat calling and trying to get him to fire on the turn again if I was that sure of his holdings. Then again if ur right and call the flop he most likely checks the turn as there arent many draws u could be calling with. Was there a flush draw? If there was I missed it in the post. You also didnt mention what ur stack size was, other then that u were about equal. All things considered I see maybe one way to get more money out of him if he actually does hold 99-QQ. Flat call the flop, check the turn(if he bets great but I think hell check behind), check river as well to see if he will take another stab at it. Sry bout the bubble, that sucks. |
Re: Bellagio 5 Diamond Classic 2k NLHE - 3 Hands
hand 1a: I would push the flop.
hand 1b: I love it hand 2: what were your stacks? how much of a raise was it over his 7k bet? The shorter your stacks, the more I like that play. However, if you are raising to like 60k all in, then I really don't like it. If your stacks are in the 10k-25k range, then it's a good Moo-ve. Isn't live play soooo much better?? |
Re: Bellagio 5 Diamond Classic 2k NLHE - 3 Hands
Ok. Update, and I really want opinions of hand 3. Except I'm going to turn it around. I wanted to post this hand from both sides, because I do not want people's opinions advice to be based on what they perceive my hand as being. But first, the results from hand 1a and 1b.
Hand 1A - I folded. The one thing I love about live. It allows you to make a much better read on where you really are. I was beaten. Horribly pot stuck? Yes. But beaten, absolutely. I talked to him later, he confirmed that he had KK, which I believe. I folded, and 2 hands later picked up AA in the BB. Got 4 way action, and quadripled through EP raised to 800, MP cold called, button reraised allin, the other two folded and I just had to stay ahead of JJ. I disagree that a push on the flop is the right move. What I do agree with is that I should definately have pushed preflop. Hand 1b - He had QQ. I hit an ace on the flop, and he got to play 1 hand at his new table. I want to repost hand 2. Please reread from this other point of view, and tell me what you think. I will not say if I posted the first time as hero, or villian. I want evaluation though. Hero and Villian are the two big stacks at the table, and with 55ish people left are probably around 15th or 20th in chip stacks overall. Hero is in LP with AKo, and has a loose turned fairly tight table image, but I made good position raises when folded to me in LP. Folded to me with AKo. I have 30k in my stack, and villian in this hand is the only person who has me covered, with 33k. He has been fairly tight and shown down a couple monsters, including doubling through and busting a well known pro about 4 orbits earlier. I raise to 2.75 the BB (blinds are 600/1200 +200 ante) to 3k. Big blind just calls. Flop is A73 rainbow, and the villian checks to me. I bet out roughly the pot at 7500. Villian goes into the tank, then reraises me all in. Call or fold with my tournament life on the line. I have top pair top kicker. |

[/ QUOTE ] I'm a little confused about what you're looking for, if you want a comparison of the two hands between what you posted earlier, or what. In any case, I'll take a crack at this, even though I apparently know what the BB holds based on your previous post. First, I think it's safe to rule out AA, KK and QQ for obvious reasons. BB probably would have reraised PF with those hands. I also wouldn't expect to see JJ-88, or 66-44 here, unless BB thinks he can move you off of a hand with an Ace in it. I just don't see BB putting most of his chips on the line with an Ace on the flop, unless he's sure that you don't have an ace. I don't think BB would have 77 or 33 either, as it seems a player with a flopped set would more likely call your flop bet. Although on a drawless board like that, a flat check-call is a dead giveaway of hitting the flop hard, so I guess it's possible that the BB would go ahead and push here hoping you do have an Ace. The hand I'd most expect BB to have here though is another AK. The line just seems to make some sense, and you said he'd only shown down monster hands so far really (he or you? This is confusing me). With my tournament life on the line, I think I'd probably lean toward a call on a board like this. |
Re: Bellagio 5 Diamond Classic 2k NLHE - 3 Hands
Zaxx,
Your sources are incorrect. I was very shortstacked towards the end. Folding into the money was not going to happen. Soss, Yes. Its awesome. That said, I still hate live limit poker. Hate it. Live tournament is all I expected it to be, and more. Now I just need lasik, or some good prescription sunglasses. I hated having to stare at a piece of felt on the board. Re: Bellagio 5 Diamond Classic 2k NLHE - 3 Hands
If villian is trapping with AA then so be it, hitting the ace killed you. If villian flopped a set with 77 or 33, then so be it.
I would put villian on another AK, but you also can't discount the possibility that he thinks you are making a position raise and representing the Ace, thus he might make the same move w/ AT-AQ. I think you have to call here. WJ |
Re: Bellagio 5 Diamond Classic 2k NLHE - 3 Hands
Hi, Nick. Actually I'm now home. It was great meeting you. Funny story how I met up with Nick. I read his post mentioning that he was heading out to the Bellagio event so I IM'd him, but didn't hear back. Fast forward to Sat. night. I'm waiting around for a satillite and meet Nick not knowing who he is. We talk and end up sitting next to each other in the satellite. I ask him if he ever visits twoplustwo and he tells me that he's there all the time. I ask for his handle and can't believe it when he tells me his online name. He actually did receive my email and wrote down my cell and was planning on calling me that night or the next day. He then proceeds to trap me when he's dealt AA and I have K9 and hit my K on the flop. Ha,ha. Actually it was fun.
Nick is a strong player. On Sunday's $2k event we sat at adjacent tables and kept abreast of each other's fortunes. One minute he's doing great and I'm on the ropes, the next minute I'm well above average and he's in trouble. About 8 hours in when we get to 6 tables our fortunes reverse and Nick is in deep trouble with only a few thousand of chips and I am comfortable with close to 30k (blinds around 300/600 I believe with an 50 ante). Anyway, I make a critical blunder which I'll post tomorrow in a new thread so you guys all learn what an idiot I am, and I get crippled. When I leave in around mid 60's place, I see poor Nick with what looks like less than 3-4k. I figure he has only a few hands more to last at most. When I see him at around 12am in the cash game room he tells me that he just busted out in 32nd place. I cannot believe he lasted that long. It must have taken some extremely strong playing. Good going, Nick! * Nick, I ended up watching them get down from 15 or so to the final 9. It finally ended around 2:30am. The big guy with the loud mouth from your table made it to the final 9 in about 2-3 position. I couldn't believe the things he was saying. How did you put up with him for so long? - Scot |
