I\'m going to Vegas in two weeks - where should I play?

Sorry to ask the basic question. I've done pretty well at Party 1/2 6max and 2/4 - so that is my skill level. I've never played poker at a casino before, and I don't know how to play spread-limit and don't understand what kills and half-kills are. I may bring up to around $500 as a bankroll, but we'll see. I'm staying at the Luxor - and I've read many of the reviews on allvegaspoker.com. I'm not a NL player. My "poker face" is horrible, so this could be a problem.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

If you are playing low, limit games, your poker face will not matter. If you beat the low limit online games, then you should do fine live. I will let the Vegas regulars tell you where to play.

The mandalay bay has a good nice little room with the uber fun 1-2 blinds 4-8 game.

How does the betting work? Calling means $2 or $4 in the pre-flop and flop stages?

Luxor has a nice 1/2 "beginners" game. Excal has a 1-3 spread limit beginners game. Either should be fine, and you can walk back and forth between all 3 casinos (Mandalay Bay being the third). Daily, fun freezeout tourneys, too.

The rake will kill you, but if you want some LL fun, go for it.

Does anyone have any advice for someone going to vegas who wants to play NL tournaments rather than ring games? Any casinos have a lot of regular tournaments? Schedules?

Thanks

Loved the 4/8 at Mandalay with 1/2 blinds (calling takes 2, a raise makes it 6). The 2-6 spread game at Excalibur is also sweet.

preflop limp of 2 and a raise is to 6.

Downtown:

Horseshoe has two per day at 2:00 PM and 8:00 PM
Union Plaza has one at 10:00 and on some nights one at midnight.
Golden Nugget has two per day at 11:00 am and I think 7:00 PM

Is the jackpot drop a big factor at the 2/6 Excalibur game?

What's considered the minimum limit at a B&M that's +EV to play after rakes and tokes are added in?

Why in the world would someone play a tournament other than the wsop while visiting vegas?

Talk about a huge chunk of time out of your vacation.

Actually, the preflop limp is 2 and to raise is a max of 6 to make it 8 to go, not to 6.

If you are talking about Excalibur then YOU are correct...if talking about Mandalay Bay then HE is correct.

The 2/6 spread at Excalibur is soft as hell. You don't have the kind of completely green-behind-the-ears folks you see in 1/3 for the most part, but what you have instead is a mix of weak-tight older folks and "I saw poker on TV and want to give it a try" 20 to 40-somethings. They're all horrible, for the most part.

As for the jackpot drop, I don't think its that bad if you're playing +EV poker otherwise. The amount you benefit from the jackpot when your AA gets cracked (obviously happens more often in loose-passive games) must cover at least a decent chunk of what you lose in the extra rake.

But most of all, spread limit kills passive players. Raise the max, every time it is reasonable to raise at all.

DJ, please post a trip report when you return. I am going in January and have similar background/experience.

Any "from the horse's mouth" tips to the online guys are appreciated. Like what things are similar to online, what surprised you, etc. And of course how the play compares to which limits at Party.

OK. Looks like I should try the 2/6 Excalibur game and the 4/8 Mandalay Bay game. At least both of those are next to the Luxor, so travel should be easy.
