How do I get my bankroll to vegas?
 

This may be a silly question, so flame away if necessary.

Heading to vegas next week and would like to bring along a bankroll sufficient for 10-20 limit play or there abouts. My question is should I wire the funds out there or should I just use my ATM card or some other method?

When I play at FW I just go to the bank and take out the cash for that day's buyin (say 50x BB for a nice round number). I'll be out in vegas for five days of poker. Not comfortable taking that much cash on an airplane. Suggestions?

Recently, I've oppend an acount at Wells Fargo, which
has a branch if not the main office in Las Vegas. I carry
my ATM card with me and just withdraw from the casinos ATM.
I can also do online transfers if necessary.

Previously, I just carried my bankroll on my person, but then it was only a few thousand.

50BB at 10-20 is $1000. Grow a pair and stick it in your pocket. $1000 is not much cash.

Also try travelers checks. But don't use them at Indian Casinos, I got charged $30 to cash $1000 in travelers checks.

Heh. You're correct, of course. For some reason I was multiplying my one day's buyin by 5. Duh. I'll bring more than just the 1K, but probably won't need 5K. Yes, folks, I am a stooge.

There was a post similar to this a little while ago, you may want to check the archives.

For me I guess, it's what you're use to.

I guess I would just carry the cash, it's not unusual for someone, especially if you play live on a regular basis, to have upward of $2,000 in you wallet at all times. So I would imagine, carrying $5,000 would not be a big deal.

Even 5k is small change, I've carried 19k at one time. I must admit I wasn't happy about it... but nobody knows you have the money expect you. Besides, whjat are the odds of you being mugged that day, instead of any other day of your life?

Once you get there, you should use the hotel safe so you aren't carrying your whole bankroll with you at all times. Then you're only carrying a lot of cash on the day you arrive and the day you leave (hopefully).

I just did a Vegas trip and carried 3K on the airplane with no problems. I also used the in room safe at Mandalay Bay to stash my money. I don't think carrying around enough money for a day's play of 10-20 is an issue of safety or convenience in LV.

If you can't feel comfortable carrying 4-5K in your pocket with a rubber band, IMO you shouldn't play 10-20. Yeah, if you play the 20000-40000 game you have to make some arrangements. But 10-20? We had a thread on this before, and I pretty much agreed with snakehead. Poker is gambling. You have to feel comfortable gambling. Gamblers carry cash. If you aren't comfortable there may well be flaws in your game or outlook anyway. Get a good quality rubber band. Fold once. Put in front pocket. There ya go. Don't take it ou at airport secrity, thats all. It isnj't metal. it isn't illegal. Relax.

Besides, the fine specimens at Olympic Garden don't have the time to wait for you to go get a bank wire. [img]/images/graemlins/cool.gif[/img]

By Vegas standards, anything less than $10k is considered small potatoes. Stick your wad in your pants and get on the damn plane. Good luck at the tables.

Okay, okay. You've convinced me that I won't have any trouble carrying the roll through the airport. Guess that's what I was worried about. In time I hope to have a roll that I really have to worry about. Cheers!

Don't feel bad. I just had a nice hit at FW and had a security guard walk me out to the parking garage. I felt a little like a bit of a wuss but I had just finished 4th in the Senior's tourney and there was a big crowd watching and everyone could see me get paid cash by Mike Ward and it was late and I was alone.

Figured better to be safe than sorry.

I'm headed to Vegas on Friday. I just stopped by the bank and withdrew 3K for the trip. I will carry it with me also.

I think the easiest/best way (especially if large ammounts of cash makes you uncomfortable) is to get one of those money pouches that goes around your waste under your shirt. They look similar to a fanny pack although they are smaller.

That's my friends and I carried money around. I only brought 4k, but one of my friends brought 20k and that's what he did too. He also put it in his socks cause obviously he didn't have enough room for that many bills.

I agree though, for a person who a year ago thought 100 bucks was a lot of money, walking around in vegas with 10k makes you feel a little uneasy, esp when you're walking back to your hotel at 6 am and some strung out hooker (at least that's the way she looked) follows you walking 5 feet behind you while the streets are completely deserted. Hehe.

Actually the little metal strips inside money are there so that they will set off metal detectors if you have enough of it together. But I would think you would need more than a few thousand for this to happen.

I like to strap a wad of c-notes to my forhead with a leather belt, wear a shirt that says " do me " and walk around in North Vegas. Also, it helps your table image if you show up at the 10-20 tables at Mirage, grab a seat, then rip off your shoe and dump about ten grand in 100's all over the table. This makes the locals really twitchy.

I see posts like this all the time.

Last time I went to Vegas I had about $5K in my pocket. I carried it in my zippered jacket pocket. No one mugged me on the plane.

$5K is a lot of money to me, so I kept pretty good track of it. If your bankroll is a lot of money to you, then that should be incentive enough to keep your eyes on it.

When you get to Vegas, put it in your room safe, along with your drugs. Should be safe there.

I took $2500, rolled it up and secured it with a rubber band. It was summer, and I wore these shorts with some of them fancy new "pocket" thingys. The roll went right into the front pocket, and nestled itself right next to my other valuables, which I carry with me suspended within their own under-the-shorts garment.

You sound like you are planning on losing everyday.
You also sound like 2K is a lot of money.
Maybe you are playing over your head?
You probably should not be taking more than 20% of your total poker bankroll. It would be a real drag to spend a few days in Vegas and put yourself out of business because you had a bad run.

Get your feet wet, play some smaller games and work your way up. If you are a good player within a couple days you can win a nice 10/20 buy in. Good Luck!
