Have you ever made up a word that caught on?

I made up the word "snussy". Its a less vulger way of calling someone a pussy. I have heard people I did not know in north and middle alabama use the word. Snussy is a great word. Start using it and watch it catch on.

Example at the bar:

"Just take the shot you SNUSSY!"

When I was in kindergarden, we had phonics class and we learned what a diphthong was. I thought it was a funny word so I kept calling people a diphthong. I used it for a good couple years...

Then about 10 years later, I heard it used in a movie. Not saying I started it, but I know no one else that I knew of ever used it before I started.

I have not made up a word but I will use new words I like, lately it's been "Smacktard". That person is brilliant. "Ass-clown" is another good one IMO. So if you guys come up with some good stuff, I'll pass it along but won't take credit for it.

No one here will believe me, but a long time ago me and a friend invented "MILF", then american pie came out, and that saying was ruined.

I've been seeing "meh' in internet circles for longer than that, though it's definitely gotten much more commonly used in the past two or three years.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure things like MILF and CFM have been around for quite a while, even though many people probably would think they're relatively new.

Sorry Steve. The question was relating to words that caught on. Your "lung butter" is way too nasty of a word to catch on. It's very descriptive though, saying it out loud makes me wanna throw up in my mouth a little.

I made a thread about this a while ago. My friend told me he made up the term "bronson" for beer. We said it a lot when we were out at shows. A year or so later we are at a party in Massachusetts, and some kids in a similar scene were tossing around Bronson like it was normal. That's about it.

can I just voice the frustration that anyone feels when one introduces a concept that is so blatantly so esoteric that no one will understand it withou an apt description being provided? ( diphthong ) ( esoteric )

no, I've never been able to make one of these.

Also, "Bush" as a swear word, neologized (boooom that has to be another one) late 1988, when I was 4. My 3 year old sister caught on, but it didn't save here from getting paddled by my grandfather when she said it because it sounded so much like "bull$hit."
