Tiffany Writes an Article

Her Article
[ QUOTE ]
the couple of times I’ve played poker since I returned from the WSOP have confirmed to me that I’ve still got a long ways to go and a lot of experience to get under my belt. But it also proved to me that I can play solid poker. . .

Re: Tiffany Writes an Article

More bits of wisdom from her (I'm throwing away my copy of TOP): [ QUOTE ]
Anyway, Ade’s strategy goes something like this: any time someone raises his big blind, if he looks down and sees at least one face card, he’s going to play the hand. Well, I did the same: if there was one face card or better, and the raise was not too big, I quickly called and played the flop.

Days Three and Four went smoothly. My premium hands, including a few pocket pairs (sixes, queens, nines) held up.

Why not post the entire article and analyze it here, since that's what you're looking to do.

Re: Tiffany Writes an Article

It justs get better and better with each read. This is a trip into the mind of the fish:

[ QUOTE ]
I played mostly premium hands and my big blinds until on Day Three, when I looked down at AsQs. I had won two big pots in the previous days with AQ, so I was happy to see my old friend again.

[/ QUOTE ]

I also believe in playing hands that I won with the day before. It's just good poker.

[ QUOTE ]
And this time, it’s suited!

[/ QUOTE ]

Holy Jesus Christ!! Go all in, take out a home loan, use the rent money!!!

[ QUOTE ]
So I raised, and a player with whom I’d tangoed over a couple of pots re-raised me nearly all in. ‘That’s a very big raise’ I said to myself. ‘One of two things are gonna happen here: I’m gonna go home or I’m gonna double up and be among the chip leaders come the end of the day.’ For some strange reason, folding did not appear to be an option to me at the time.

[/ QUOTE ]

I know. How can you suck out if you fold? Go girl!

I was up to about 1.3 million when I looked down at Ad3d and figured it was worth a gamble for an all-in call of about $200K. We both got a pair of Aces on the board but I had a weak kicker

[/ QUOTE ]

She forgot to add the next sentence: "During the break, an audience member was kind enough to explain to me the kicker concept."

Well, before you get tired of it (as has happened to almost every person who has ever appeared on big poker tv events and posted in this forum) and disappear:

I'd like to, as a fellow American Expat in London (I have not played against you or met you) who followed your progress in the WSOP, congratulate you on your excellent result and your heat win the Speed Poker Open.

To be fair, the article was not written as a strategy guide. And there is this:

[ QUOTE ]

During that first day, however, I quickly realized that if you put enough pressure on most guys, the kind of pressure where they have to make a decision for their tournament lives, unless they’ve got the absolute nuts, it’s more than likely that they’ll give up the pot and fold.

There are some exceptions, but most people don’t respond well to the constant pressure. Bold, aggressive play worked very well for me in a number of spots where I didn’t have the nuts, but I was sure the other guy didn’t have it either"

[/ QUOTE ]

Which is easy to say but hard to do.

Re: Tiffany Writes an Article

I don't know if you explained this on another thread, but what were you thinking about when you had KJ suited against Sheik?

Were you thinking that he was trying to steal the pot? Just wondering. To many of us it just seemed an easy fold, but maybe you knew/saw something we didnt.

I'm sure that it is pretty uncomfortable to be constantly re-raised huge by a totally unknown female amaetur with a hand range that includes any two suited paint cards, and PP 66+, etc etc

How come I get the vision of a big beer can landing on your head about now, you little wussy ... "oh, no, I didn't realize the person that I was rediculing might actually read what I said. I'm so sorry." What a candy ass.

And, here is the thing. I suspect that Tiffany ... it has been confirmed her acount is the real deal ... probably would enjoy talking about why pocket 3's and 6s aren't premium hands, and why playing a hand today because you played it yesterday isn't +EV. But not when it is laced by all the "know it all ... I'm better than everyone else even though I can't even afford to enter the WSOP" crap that you find in this forum.

Tifany ... leave this forum as soon as you can, and don't turn back. Go straight to the MTT forum, and others here, where they actually talk poker. You'll still get your share of abuse there (some of it deserved, IMHO), but at least people will talk to you about poker with a little more respect.

To me the most rippable thing in the whole article was this:
[ QUOTE ]
Bearing in mind he’s potentially putting his tournament life at stake, I figured it’s a big pair or maybe AK. So why do I make the call with AQ? Well, playing in the WSOP has confirmed something that I have long known about myself. I like the thrill of gambling!

Hmm lets see. You're articulate, self-deprecating, confident yet not cocky, and admirably bold - for many obvious reasons.

Oh btw, congrats Tiffany.

Is it possible for people to laugh at how bad someone's play is, get a kick out of an article they wrote, and then when they respond to you in an articulate manner on a forum where they have a worse image than Adolf Hitler, you might just change your mind about them?

I still think the plays shown were laughable, but, I'll be damned if I'm not impressed that she came here and posted without flaming everyone and saying KISS THE RINGS BITCHES WHO HAS 800,000 DOLLARS or something. Since that's probably what I would have done.

This isn't called for.

When we are often talking about ways to get even more people into poker, am I alone in thinking that a player being featured on ESPN that is a new player and also part of two groups not often associated with poker (black and female) is a VERY good thing...?

Can you name one person who has drawn more hatred on this forum, ever? There have been a lot of people who have had 10 threads posted about them, but from the tournament when it happened in July, to now, the fire hasn't died down.

I'm honestly reminded of the episode of the Critic where a clip of Jay is put in front of a test audience, and he's universally hated. A clip of Hitler is put up, and one guy thinks he was in "that band" and reacts positively.

[/ QUOTE ]

I think hatred is the wrong word.

I just saw a few major disagreements with many of Tiffany's plays and can see the humor in the difference between her thinking process and that of stronger players.

Plenty of others have been made fun of for what is regarded as poor play.

Phil Hellmuth has taken signficantly more heat here. So has Norman Chad. Danny Nguyen has taken a good amount of heat. And so did some Asian dude who's name I forget that was in the WSOP Atlantic City event.

I think mockery is the correct word.

Re: Tiffany Writes an Article

Personally, I read the article more like a 'Trip report' type of thing than anything else. I think Tiffany did REALLY well, especially given the fact, she had only played poker for LESS than a year at the time.

How many players do ANY OF YOU know, who played poker for LESS than one year, who made it as far as Tiffany did against THAT many players, in the WSOP Main event?

Ya did good Tiffany ... you should be proud of yourself, I know a LOT of us, especially us Ladies, are VERY proud of you indeed. (insert thumbs up symbol)
