How often will quads over quads happen?

I've played about 500,000 hands in the last year, and maybe close to a million hands online since I started playing poker, and I haven't seen quads over quads yet. In fact I've never seen a hand that would qualify for a bad beat jackpot where Aces full loses.

I've seen straight flushes lose (1 card flush though), and I've had 6 or 7 Royal flushes in that time, but I've yet to see quads lose. I wonder if the expectation is more often than once in a million hands.

Re: How often will quads over quads happen?

I don't know, David, but I can add my big hands here from almost a year of online play: I've beaten Aces full twice, once with a St. Flush and once with quads. I've had my aces full beaten once, by quad deuces. That's it. I do remember making quad nines in a game a few years ago and losing to a srtraight flush, but these instances certainly do seem rare.

Re: How often will quads over quads happen?

There's about an order of magnitude difference in the probability of quads over quads, and a royal flush. Once you've seen about 10 royals you should see quads over quads

I've seen a flopped set over set over set. I think that's my rarest moment.

Re: How often will quads over quads happen?

Yah, I was in one of those too. First day I moved up to 3/6, and I was the sucker with the middle set. Flop was AT7, (One guy had AA, I had TT, and another 77) and I think the only straight that was possible in the end was the wheel, and no flush possibility as well.

Also FWIW, I've lost or beaten a hand that would qualify for the bad beat jack pot as far as I'm aware of in about 80k hands played.

I've lost quads over quads. Thank god for party's heads-up beting cap.

Re: How often will quads over quads happen?

In my lifetime I've been involved in two hands that would have qualified for bad beat jackpots.

One with J9s and a flopped straight flush that went against a flopped set and turned quads (in a home game NL tourney close to 2 years ago), and the second with AA on a KKJAJ board that amazingly lost to a rivered royal. I have also seen a friend lose with AA to QQ on an AQxxQ board online.

In all of my playing experience and watching others play I'd guesstimate it to be about 500,000-700,000 hands.

I've seen AA, KK, JJ, and 88 out on a KJ8 flop. My friend was the AA. Luckily he had it in him to get outta the way on the turn

EDIT TO ADD: This hand occured at a B&M, so, here's some more evidence that all the B&M's are rigged

Re: How often will quads over quads happen?

A while ago I held 99 on a K99 flop. I checked to the PFR and smooth called. Turn was K (sweet). I checked the turn and he checked it through. I bet a blank river and we capped. He shows KK. I thanked him for saving me 4 BB. A few hours later I riverd a 1 outter with 77 on a Kx7x7 board against KK. Clearly, party is rigged.

Re: How often will quads over quads happen?

I've had it happen once, ending up on the winning end.
Holding JJ, 3-bet 66, go to the flop heads-up.

6JJ. He bet, I raised, he 3-bet, I smooth call, knowing it's either 66 or an overpair.

Turn is a 6. Capped to the end.

I've personally been on the wrong end of that beat twice (once on Paradise, and once in a 15-30 in Denver), so I'm either the unlickiest sonofabitch on the planet or you've managed so far to dodge the bullet.

Yup that pot would be over 1.5k/50BB at 15/30 I would expect.

I've seen quads over quads once since I've been playing ... guy flopped quad nines agaisnt aces full. An A came on the turn.

Action of course went Check, check. Check, check. Bet, raise, raise, cap.

Interestingly, that exact situation happened to me the other day. It was capped preflop before it got to me in the BB. The flop came KJ5 and I bet out and it was capped before it got back and I folded. Three sets were out.

Re: How often will quads over quads happen?

I know it matters not at all, but I had quads over quads last week, with both cards playing in both hands.

$50 sng, I raise with AQo, bb calls with 44.
Flop AAA, I bet some pottish amount, he calls.
Turn 4, I bet again, he raises all in. I giggle like a little girl, and call.
River 4, and he makes some sad quads.

So I guess it happens, but very very rarely. Someone could figure it out, but I'm lazy.

The worst I've seen is three people flopping sets and then the person with the middle set turning quads. That was a fun hand..

In a no limit SnG, I flopped aces full of nines from the big blind (A9 in my hand) and ended up losing to his 44 when runner runner case 4's came on the turn and river.

It actually is a good thing though because since then, other bad beats haven't really bothered me.

Yeah, the whole table had a good laugh about that. Even the 44 guy thought it was pretty funny after a minute.

Re: How often will quads over quads happen?

i was at a table with quads over quads. it actually started off iwth 2 guys one with AA one with KK. the flop was AKK, the turn was the A, river didnt' matter. luckily i was at the table, and got a table share of the bad beat, unfortunately, the AA guy went from the big piece, to the smaller piece, but he wasn't complaining he still got 6k or something like that.

onegymrat 08-10-2004 08:18 PM

Re: How often will quads over quads happen?

But didn't you tell me that the turn and river were both aces?

Analyst 08-11-2004 12:54 AM

Quads over quads - been there,

done that. 20-40 at the local B&M a few months ago, 4 handed at the time.

Folded to SB, who open-raises. I have AA in the BB and 3-bet, SB calls.

Flop is AA6. Not a bad flop for me, no, but unfortunately for the SB he has 66 for a flopped boat.

SB bets. I call

Turn is T
SB bets again. I call

River is a 6
SB bets. Well, this time I just have to raise. SB re-raises since he just rivered quads, but he's all in for another 15 dollars. That's the sad part, but the really sad part for both of us is that this club does not have a bad beat jackpot! And playing just 4-handed, the other two players would have cleaned up as well.

sam h 08-11-2004 01:28 AM

I lost quads over quads once, but saved some bets

I had 77 in the BB, some guy across the table raised and there were a few callers. Flop was A77 and it was checked around. Turn was some low brick and me and the other guy capped it. River was an ace. I bet, he raised, and I called.

Mikey 08-11-2004 02:47 AM

Re: How often will quads over quads happen?

I've seen Quad 7's vs Quad Queens

Both Players flopped a set and Quads 7's were made on the turn and Quad Queens were made on the river.

Re: How often will quads over quads happen?

My rarest moment was a hand where I had AA, the board was AK8TK. I lost to quad Ks, which lost to a royal flush. I grumbled about never hitting a bad beat jackpot for 5 days until I hit one at the Muckleshoot, when I rivered quad 3s to the same card that gave my opponent a straight flush (BTW, he check-called my river bet!!!!).

I won quads over quads once. First time I moved up to 1/2 - sometime towards the end of last year. Don't remember exactly how the betting went but I had KK he had 99. Flop came K9x, turn K, river 9

I think I 3 bet preflop, the flop went 2 bets, the turn went 2 bets, and the river was capped. I know I was slowplaying the turn, not something I would do today.

Maybe 75K hands online. 3 royals. Online poker is rigged, but lucky for me they rig it so I win a lot more than I lose. (oh, and I've just started playing at B&M's and those seemed to be rigged in my favor as well).
